It's surprising that Nintendo made such a bizarre game (plot, bosses etc) in the other hand his OST it's very surprising, the GBA had a very good sound!

I understood what they were trying to do. I just didn't like it. I think Mother 3 handled the story elements much better, because while still having lighthearted comedic moments, many of which parody the genre just as well ad EB, that game still knew when to give us serious moments as well. Earthbound's lack of a serious plot really gives you little reason to keep playing for in my opinion. And I wouldn't bring up the music when I'm trying to discuss the game's positives if I were you =P

I don't think you really understood the game. It's more of a parody of an RPG than an an actual epic experience. The story doesn't take itself seriously because it's not supposed to, it adds more charm that way. The music actually gives you that eerie feel that the world is in danger, more or less the diolouge/narration.

@flippyrulz123 This one's subjective, but I didn't like the music. Most people did, but it was honestly ear scraping to me. To be fair, the melodies are good, but the instrument quality was terrible. It sounded almost like static sometimes, and like farting noises at others.

@flippyrulz123 The game was too easy. Multi-bottle rockets, bags of Dragonite, and Ness's endgame power up are just a few examples. I'm not one to nitpick about graphics, but even I have standards. I mean, the art style's nice, but there is no animation here. Try watching Venus's show in Fourside. If you can stomach it, you have a much longer attention span than me, friend. The combat is boring. Nothing keeps it interesting to me. It just doesn't set itself apart in any meaningful way.

@flippyrulz123 Well, bear with me. I'm gonna rant. For one, the story never took itself seriously. As much as the planet was at stake, it never felt like it was. Lighthearted is one thing, but Earthbound didn't know when to be serious. I disliked the clunky select system. Press A and you get look, talk, items, etc. Then select again what you want to do. So unnecessary. Why would I look at the person standing in front of me, or talk to a present? It's the only SNES RPG I played that does that.

This game is so much better than its predecessor. As much as I disliked Earthbound, I could replay Mother 3 over and over again.

@Salnax Interesting that's good yo know. I also thought that Mother 1 and 2 were the same game just released on different systems but I see that isn't the case.

@SpooniestBard Earthbound IS one a Mother game. You know how in America, FF4 was called FF2? Well, the first game in the Mother series, Mother 1, was never released outside of Japan because it came too late in the NES's life. So when Mother 2 was brought to the US, they just called it Earthbound to avoid confusion. As for Ness, he doesn't really play much of a role in Mother 1 OR 3. The Mother games all take place in the same universe, there are new casts of characters every time.

This, Natural Killer Cyborg, and the Masked Man theme make an awesome collection of boss themes. Speaking of which, is not the masked man music not going to make it on to your list at some point? :) And I agree that Porky makes an interesting, sad villain.

man I frekin love the mother games, if only they would bring back the mother games and make an Earthbound 3: The final strike. Witch has all of the mother main characters fighting a super giygas morphed with the remains of porkey and starmen. That would be frekin awesome. But scary as porkey and them are, u know. ANYONE WHO WANTS TO MAKE THAT COMMENT ON ME PLZ!!!!!

Is it just me that loves the "double drums" during most of the song? :D Gives a feel of...DANGER! And the "Vibe instrument" just gives that eerie feeling of stress. <3

This game is brilliant, and the fact that NoA neglects the series is a big and ugly sin. I could go on an on saying how the characters, storyline, music, etc were awesome. But I'll just say that this is the only game that has made me cry.

It was my favorite part too (It used to make me shudder at how sad it sounded), but I never noticed it was the MDS theme! It was too wavy for me to notice.
