Someone is trying to revive the arcane adventures, actually its in pre alpha but its pretty ok to me. Its called Arcane Reborn. The game is in progress, actually there are 4 elements, air, light, lightining and fire and only the cannon fist. Also there are so many bugs but its still good.

@Mr. Shago ahhhh, Arcane adventures was the best RPG game. Its sad that because of its age it died. No wonder I kept crashing and glitching. Nonetheless the game was fun, I had fun as a 1 element only user doing pvp's with friends and maxed players.

More people probably know this for the Best VGM List than for the actual game. Seeing tracks from the Wild Arms series here was the first I'd heard of it. On a side note, whoever composed for the first few WA games clearly likes/liked flutes. Must have been "in" then, kind of like the Pokemon composers' recent obsession with acoustic guitars and violins to produce an almost Italian feel. Seriously, they do that all the time now - OR/AS Zinnia, Gen7 Red, I'm looking at you.

I remember the good ol' days when the *Super Beard Bros.* were playing though this game over many months, and then included *Greg* on the show, making it into *Super Beard Bros. **_DELUXE_* -- which also had a few playtroughs (Super Metroid) -- but now things are how they are. But, I'm still just as sad (after more than 2 years) that we lost all those things he brought to the *TOVG*-network. Point being; *The Completionist* was a show that was carried by a *duo*, and that duo splitting, with him kinda dis-respectably being erased from even the slightest mention or call back -- 4+ years into the show (which I followed all those years) -- just makes everything kinda sour. It could've been handled better. (Or perhaps, avoided.) No hard feelings against *Greg* or *Jirard* though. I've even meet Jirard post-split and he is just an as like-able fellow as ever. And *Super Beard Bros.* is still making great stuff! I highly, *highly* recommend their *L.A. Noire* playthrough. Good times are had, and their high-points out-trump even the *GameGrumps* high-points. **sigh** What can I say, except that I really, really miss *Greg*. -- Very emotional piece for me. Thanks for the upload. :D

This game is really sad at part where Rudy's hand is being amputated. Player will know that he is actually a robot and the girl companion will entering his dream and fight a boss inside his dream after player beat the abbey book puzzle to find its special item to bring back his hand.

I remember going to the pawn shop to buy Chrono Cross in 2001 but it was already sold (to my brother I later found out at Christmas) so I bought this game (they also had the second one but I couldn't afford both with my allowance.)

I may not know or have played some of the games on this list but it doesn't change the fact that all these VGM's are amazing and show why older games are special.
I remember back when I was around 5 or 6 years old, and my family went to the video game store at our mall which back then was called Electronics Boutique. 1 of my sisters came across this game and went out on a whim and told my other older sister she thought it would be a great game. We ended up getting it and my oldest sister said that she was really grateful that the game was pointed out, because it's her most favorite video game. Pair these awesome tunes in with amazing gameplay and story, yeah that's the epitome of Wild Arms.

So much nostalgia... I remember playing this when I was just a 6 year old kid, and I used to think in that time that this game couldn't have been made by humans because it was just so different and unique and made me feel such emotions XD Like this game was "important", so to speak. I used to be thrilled while playing it, and also really scared in some parts.

If anyone liked this game, try lunar silver star story and eternal blue complete, both for ps1, talk about an rpg, those two were milestones
U know lunar legend remake on the gba is pretty solid imo. Grandia on ps1 is fine too. And of course, the tales series, and star ocean 1,2.
Lunar on the GBA was really bad. Only the visuals are good. Stay with the PSX version, it's the better one.
IMO the Lunar series with their giant boxes still don't hold a candle to Wild Arms

My childhood, my fantasies and my feelings until I grew up in High School have been dandled by RPGs' Town Themes. I have a very particular love for the sunset atmosphere of Wild Arms. I think that it's rare, but sometimes RPGs game designers have what it takes to be considered film directors. It's a real tribute to Spaghetti Western of Sergio Leone (also for the colors of the ambience) and the music of Ennio Morricone, which have been able to catch the magic of the Western creating an incredible fantasy story.
What is most memorable song's from RPG game's? Town's Themes, in them you spend more time, they give a calm before next fight.

This game, along of Legend of Legaia that Joseph mentioned, were overshadowed by the massive FF7 hype at the time. That being said, both are amazing games, if you're into JRPG you gotta give them a try.
@tykk86 The back of my Wild Arms Cd case says it will hold you over until FF7, which is wildly overrated in terms of a FF game.
@Emily Gaw The FF series in general is a bit overrated if you ask me. But yeah, Wild Arms did come before FF7, but it's exposure was drowned out by the FF7 hype. Everyone and their pet Koala was shitting their pants over FF7 back then.

u must to play Wild Arms, is one of the best RPGs of the history. Have wonderful history, wonderful music, wonderful dungeon, tools, pjs... Only the battle have any mistakes, but its an old game. This is an autentic classic RPG of old school

J'avoue que j'ai récemment fini le jeu et je dois avouer que c'était très bien, après faut bien aimer les vieux graphismes de la PS1... Sinon rien à redire, de très bonnes musiques, l'histoire avance sans trop d'encombres, la difficulté est croissante sans trop l'être, un bon RPG en somme ^^

I still remember when I first time played Wild Arms.. when I entered the town I take first few steps with Rudy and then stopped.. the music hitted me so greatly I couldn't do anything but listen.. reminded me something dear that has been already lost but still warms me everytime I hear this.. so even today if there has been a long time that I haven't played Wild Arms.. I just have to stop and listen around 5-15 mins before I continue the story =)

Team Management is most prominent in SRPGs and ARPGs.

Those aren't RPG elements in my opinion, same as leveling through a numerical value of experience. As an example, FF is more of a team management thingy than actual role playing :P For a videogame to define himself as an RPG, it should let you decide how you want to act or react towards your environnement. You need to actually play a role (like Grand Theft Auto, Fallout NV, or Minecraft). The vast majority of so called RPG are just stats management games with a story in background ^^
The one in the middle looks a lot like Ike from fire emblem... except the gun.. lol
Your main argument seems to be then, that zelda is an RPG because you collect items that make you more powerful throughout the game, well then I guess if that were the case we could consider games like Dead Space an RPG as well? and Doom where you get access to powerful weapons as you move through the game? Obviously that's absurd
Zelda is more of an action adventure game with light RPG elements, the main one being that your health increases. You don't gain exp, you can't level up or customise skills and there is no random chance element

I would say that back in its time the PS1 won out due to a large number of fantastic SNES RPGs never making it Stateside. It's not really till now that we can look back on the SNES RPG library and give it the praise it deserves.
My poor PS1 would run for long periods of time with this game in it, just playing music from the different parts of the game. This was one of my favorites.
I disagree. The SNES was the RPG console, let alone the gaming console if you think of the most truly memorable games on it. But that's my opinion. :P
I'm personally not a huge fan of this song. I kinda like it, but in my opinion, it wouldn't hold a candle to the Forest Interlude from Donkey Kong Country 2.

Pas envie de rentrer dans un débat youtube sans intérêt type "C FF KI ET MIEU" "NN C WILD ARMS", en passant. C'est juste que quand on met deux produits au coude à coude, si y en a un que les médias favorisent, le public ira naturellement plus facilement vers celui-ci.
J'ai aussi eu la chance d'avoir ce petit bijou qu'est Wild Arms entre les mains (j'ai aussi beaucoup aimé le 3). Oui, c'est un jeu culte, mais il n'est pas étonnant que certains soient passés à côté : il est sortit à la même periode que Final Fantasy 7, qui a quand même fait BEAUCOUP de bruit à sa sortie (les mag parlaient que de ça). Entre ses cinématiques ses graphismes et son nom pas étonnant qu'il ait été plébiscité, et du coup il a "enterré" d'autres très bons jeux... comme Wild Arms.

@YatsuraHeadOn Je veux bien que tu me dises "méconnu au jour d'aujourd'hui, pour cette génération", mais WA reste une saga culte du JRPG, et à part le 2 ils sont tous arrivés chez nous, certes en Anglais après le premier épisode (je ne vais pas parler de la traduction boiteuse du 5), mais méconnu est bien un grand mot quoi. Rien que l'intro du premier opus ou du moins la musique est juste méga culte en tout point.

@JiuClaw22 Oh man, as of now the only RPG's I've ever beaten were Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger, both via handheld versions and both for the first time in the last few months! They are already situated in my top 5 games though, so I look forward to playing through Final Fantasy VII sometime soon to add to my RPG repertoire.

I hated Wild Arms, ESPECIALLY 2. The game play for 2nd ignition was easy and redundant, plus it felt like they were adding a ton of fillers throughout the game... And that demon-slayer BITCH was the only challenging boss there >_> But everything else... Fantastic. 2nd ignition's plot was well made and unique, the character development was excellent, and the music was brilliant! If they polished up, I don't know... EVERYTHING about the actual game play, I'd be one of my top games of all time.

This is the best game of all time, greatest story (beats ff7 in my opinion), greatest soundtrack and the game is a combination of my other two favorite game series (zelda and ff). I mean it has the puzzles and interaction like zelda and the gameplay, depth and story of ff. Can't get any better than this :)

Chrono trigger , chrono cross, ff7, ff8, ff9 and ff10 are way better than wild arms, actually are the best games in all gaming history, BUT. That doesn't mean that Wild arms is not one hell of a GAME.

To me, the key to good background music is to make it catchy enough that it never gets old. Sometimes you are in areas for a really long time with RPG's (especially when you get lost and have no idea where to go). I've listened to this song for hours and still love it!

I'm glad there was no voice acting in this game because I don't think I could get over the characters saying "Elw." Whenever I tried to say that out loud it sounded like I had a speech impediment. Great game though!

When I occasionally go back and play some of my favorite titles from yesteryear, I can indeed feel the soul in them.
Why can't we have music like this in the recent games like Mass Effect and Fallout? This is just incredible music, to my ears anyway. It's like all the games of our current generation are quite soulless and uninteresting without a deep, enjoyable storyline. They are more commercial than artistic.
@xxSanadaxx I actually really enjoyed Heavy Rain. It does a good job of bringing you in. But it's definitely not the same kind of game as Wild Arms or the others you listed...

They don't make games like they used to. Final Fantasy VII, Wild Arms, Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross...it's all so sub par now. Yeah, the graphics have improved, but the emotional investment of the gamer has dropped majorly. I don't get half as into a good RPG as I used to. Nothing compares to Wild Arms.
@CANAirforce we have only one choice if we wish to once again drink deeply of true nostalgic gaming goodness...we must construct a time machine and go back to 1990. we will begin there and then rendezvous in 2000 for the jump back to 2010. who's with me? i... can't do it alone. (literally...my time machine breaks down if it doesn't have a larger quantity of molecular matter than one person can provide. :( )
it sucks that most companies are selling to the casual gamer and spitting on the core gamers, the reason they are where they are today....

So many games now lack substance, and a large part of a game's substance is a moving soundtrack capable of whisking one away to far-off lands and realities....

@SinJackal Its all about the quickest cash in possible, Its sad really . Sometimes its backfires but overall if it "looks" and "seems" cool most people will toss out 60$ just to have it. I see having a product that appeals to a broad audience to make a profit but don't spit in our faces with a lack luster product that lacks depth and is rushed. Its kinda how I felt when Wild Arms 4 and 5 came out it was so bad compared to the last 3 games it made me sad a legendary series has fallen so far.

@SinJackal I agree that the music has lost a bit of it´s magic. I mean I´ve been sitting here for a while now listening to music from the 80´s and 90´s, even if it´s music that I´ve never heard before and I can´t really say that about modern games. But there are exceptions is all I´m saying.
@conny117 Just to expound on that a bit, the only kind of music now that's very noticeable (imo), is the loud, intense music. There isn't a lot of games who pull off a good song for every area like back in the PS1 era. So many games had a cool song for like every area in the game. You could almost straight up listen to a game soundtrack and it wouldn't be boring. But now, I can't really say that, and I also like all kinds of music. :( Music's the one thing that's seemed to diminish a lot.
@conny117 That's understandable. I won't hate on someone for their opinion. For me it's just, in the past, I noticed that songs sounded really cool, and were nice to listen to. Now, I barely notice the music at all unless it's in a quiet area with nothing going on at all. Like the "eerie environment" type area. Most music now isn't noticeable unless they jack up the BGM volume during events like they did in Dragon Age. . .which got to the point I had to turn down my volume for every fight
@SinJackal It´s a different style of music now compared to before. Halo and Mass Effect have great music and they both have music that fits each individual game. Both of those games probably have a much bigger musicbudget than older games, especially Marty O´donnell (Halo) takes gamemusic very seriously. In the end though it´s all opinions, I like both old- and new music.

@Iruth27 I don't agree. The music in games today is definitely worse than it used to be. Even in the games you cited, their music is not great. It's good compared to the other garbage music in games today, but it's still crap compared to the older stuff. The gameplay (in some cases) is better now. Graphics are obviously way better. Music is definitely a LOT worse. It's just not something that much budget is allocated to now.

Ah the memories, the only good ones i have is when my entire family would sit down and watch as one of us plays it, we laughed as tryed to find our way though the mazes, we would yell at the T.V. when attacked, the musc..this game..its the best thing that could have happend! @mascot1063 and there really is something to be said when a game that holds you over till one of the biggest hyped games ever, end up being better (to me anyway) then the game your truly waiting for. This game holds a lot of deep memories for me.
When I think of Wild Arms, I think of the one game that came to me when Final Fantasy 7 wasn't there. I saw this Western game, and it just said to me, "Hey, waiting for Final Fantasy 7? I will hold you over till it comes, so give me a chance." And as such, I bought this game. And then somehow, I just... fell in love with it. The music was tranquil, the graphics simple. It really just poked at my heart strings. I liked Final Fantasy 7 until I beat it. I love WIld Arms to this day.
This inspired the spirit tracks themes. Hands down.

"Your typical save-the-world plot featuring a mysterious but kind young drifter(wanderer), a treasure hunter with a painful past, and a princess who doesn't know where she fits in the world. They band together to save the world from the evil demons with help from an ancient race and the spirits of the world." Anyone is free to correct me.
they are sort of similar but they have enough differences to make the "remake" not a remake but almost a completely different game. So its hard to tell you which one to pick. I guess if you want more extra content you should go for the one for ps2. Just be warned high amount of puzzles heading your way

i like this game a lot, and the music really made an impact on me. However, rank 1? i dont believe that, to be honest. i actually like some of the music from the Suikoden series, especially III, but i didnt see any of the games music in the list at all DX
MR thesupergreg. for us who grew up with videogames and played alot from 6-7years till 13-14 this is alot of nostalgia from our childhood and brings back alot of memories from 10-15 years ago.

There is not a poor song within this game. Had I not played Wild Arms when younger (age 7) I would have never continued to play RPGs. Wild Arms was truly, truly, a one in a million game that was over-run by the hype of others. Such a shame that this gem could never truly shine.

In terms of side questing this game was actually quite light. the tournament Zed's sword, the golems aaaand that's about it.
I do remember the long hours I put into playing this game. It was so huge and there were so many things to learn and see. I loved it.

But your opinion isnt really valid when you say saga is better than gears, since you never played it. I have never came about a more deeper and so sophisticated story ever. It deals with associative personality dissorder, past life regression, theology, psychology, philosophy, teaching of the greatest psychologist/philsophers, carl jung, fredrich nietzche, sigmund freud.

FF7 Is regarded as "the best Game" etc by so many because it opened them to the Genre and it as the first RPG played by many including myself, It is that nestalgia that goes with it that lands it so high upon peoples list. Personally I never got into them more than FF7 and I gave the rest of the FF a chance but got too wrapped up in the rest of life, not having time to play. Honestly I is the best game I have played only because I have not given others a chance.

the 3D game isn't as bad as you make it sound. I'll admit their faces aren't great, but the outfits are pretty good, and it gives a more feel of what your characters look like in battle and where your going then a 2d game. I personally like the remake better then the original. it just takes some time getting used to it

So much ha~te. The only gripe I have was that Zed got his theme altered...battle theme that is. At least it got a cameo in the end. So my gripe is minor. Everything else is okay enough so that I dont go on a killing spree. But both the classic and the remake are filling both sides of my RPG fanboyism, so its hard to say one is better than the other.

I have this game and yes the music is really good. I've never beaten it though. Pretty much the only reason was because I couldn't get past the horrid battle graphics. The 2D part of the game was beautiful though. If they would've just had the battles played out in 2D... or a mix like in Xenogears. ^_^
Huh. I am a bit disappointed but well. Many of the NES classics deserved to be on higher sets like the Dr Wily second phase, the Duck Tales moon and Dire Dire Docks, but oh well.
