This song reminds me of my brother. I would watch him play and I remember hiding the PS1 under a blanket so that my parents wouldn't see it on because we didn't have a memory card.
The fingerpicking pattern is nearly the same as Ennio Morricone's A Fistful of Dollars theme! Undoubtedly a big influence in this song.

Chrono Trigger comes pretty close, but yeah, I agree. Not many games can even come close to the level of excellence this game achieved in its storytelling elements.

Yes, exactly. This game really is a powerful, timeless, and unforgettable experience. A real hidden gem. It really is a tragedy that most people can tell you all about Mario 64, but have never even heard of great games like this one.

I don't know about that. Honestly, I always thought the first one was clearly the best, the second one was okay, they started to be disappointing with 3 and 4, and the fifth one sucked.
@Corey Wilson I was more talking about the intros than the full games but... yes 5's was............. underwhelming adn HIGHLY disappointing. I will note that 2 is one of my favorite games of all time though.

I can only think of a handful of game openings that I like anywhere near as much as I like this one (and the Alter Code F version, which I personally like even better).

Do it. The game was worth every second I put into it, and I would defend this game with my dying breath. It was unique, and most of the good ideas were well implemented. They don't make games like this anymore, and that's quite sad, really.

The joys... The tears... The memories... The nostalgia... I remember when I was 3-4 years old when my dad played this game. My brother and I watched him play the game with o much astonishment. And, when the story dialogue came, my dad read it out loud translated in Tagalog (my native language) so we can understand.

Wahahaha... samin sa probinsya dati.. nung di pa uso ang pc at internet, may PS1 rental shop samin, dun naglalaro yung kuya ko... dun ko unang nakita tong wild arms, resident evil, medievil etc. pinapanood ko lang sila noon dahil bata pa ako.. pero nung nag download ng emulator si kuya sa pc nun ko lang nalaman na ang sarap palang laruin nung mga nilalaro nya dati sa ps1... kaya kahit medyo late na para sakin.. may nostalgia factor pa rin dahil naging parte yan ng kabataan ko.. pinapanood ko lang dati.. ngayon nalalaro ko na sa pc at cellphone dahil sa emulator..

Think about rudy as a dream chaser and a demon he had to climb his way up nearly losing his grip and nearly giving in until the rising light let him know his goal was close. While the princess and the treasure hunter both have made their place in the world long before rudy has. Yet regardless they stand and watch the sun rise and the days go by as equals instead of titles. Treasure hunter. Demon. Princess. In the end it doesnt matter. you choose where you stand in this world with enough grit even you can stand with your friends regardless of the blood sweat and tears that followed your past

I remember when I heard this song for the first time, it was in Wild Arms 2 when the cool domino screensaver happens. I looked all over the place looking for this song and could not find it as i had never played the first Wild Arms... find out years later that it was in the first game and always categorized as such. I love this song and even learned to play it by ear on the keyboard!

I just finish Wild Arms few days ago. I admit it is a great RPG, with such beautiful musics, and a lot of good idea (the tools system is great, the fights are great and interesting). But, in the same time, I was playing Final Fantasy VII (for the 4 or 5th time haha), and I think FFVII is better than WA. In terms of graphics first, I liked the graphics of WA, but FFVII 3D in the fight is better by far than WA.Then, in terms of story and scenario, the 3 characters of WA have a very interesting background, but the main story is not as great as FFVII (it is my personal opinion). And to conclude, the materia system of FFVII is one of the greatest capacity system of all RPGs I've played, and, even though the Fast Draw technics of Jack are great, it is not as good as the materias. To conclude, I really liked Wild Arms, the dungeons with the tools are really great, and I had few surprises with the story. Thank you SupraDarky to have me discovered this game, now I'm starting Wild Arms 2 :D
Ouch! I'm gonna give you a bit of a warning here: WA2 is not as good as the first one.
@Morsh Talon It's the other way around, Wild Arms 2 is a lot better than the first one.
@DragonishChaosArt indeed, playing it myself recently, i did not find it nearly as bad as i once remembered. I still prefer the "intimacy" and mostly the pacing of the first one's narrative, and imo it is the superior game, but i wasn't being fair to wa2. My apologies!
@Morsh Talon I enjoyed both Wild Arms 1 and 2 a lot. But my favourite is definitly Wild Arms 3, followed by Wild Arms 5 :) But all the Wild Arms game are excellent.
@ReHawkNRoll I aint the only one! I thought 4 was such a flop I didn't expect 5 to be as good as it was. But 3 is definitely the best one IMO. The music too is just fantastic.
@yamiryushi Yeah WA4 was really disappointing, too linear, and the story is not very good. But it had a good Battle System (I really enjoyed the HEX system), and such a sad ending, I was almost crying !
@ReHawkNRoll What really messed with me to the point I didn't actually finish the game was the battle system. Not so much the hex system which didn't bother me too much but the numbers. I mean seriously. Why?
I understand it is disturbing because it's very different from the previous WA, but I really liked the strategy aspect of the battle system. :) But I totally agree, there were too many battles.
+ReHawkNRoll I think many could agree that final fantasy is better. The series really took off and got alot of chances to try again and perfect their methods compared to this game which didn't necessarily get that. No excuse for the second WA game, but i just love the soundtrack, so thats why im here
WA2 is probably the most underrated jRPG of all time and is my personal fav in the series. Better than the 1st one, including the PS2 remake (which was absolutely brilliant BTW). Also, comparing WA with FF... wtf? It's like comparing Heroes of Might and Magic series with the Warcraft series (respectively). Seriously wtf lol

digital doesn't make it bad. Cheap FLASH animating makes it bad. The real difference is in how the frames are set up whether through hand drawing, motion capture, or (god forbid) cheesy flash animation...

When I bought my PS1 in early 1999 I had the choice between this game and Final Fantasy VII. I chose this, and never once have I felt like I made the wrong decision. Not once.

A lot of comments here of people saying they should play this game. Well you should dust off that old PS1 and try it cause you won't stop until you finish it at least twice. About 40 hrs of gameplay to finish and one of the best RPG's ever, best soundtrack ever period. Unfortunate the game was poorly marketed in the US and therefore widely unknown but huge in Japan. FIND A WAY TO PLAY THIS GAME YOU WON'T REGRET IT

ive never heard of Wild Arms anything until the best vgm list. What is is exactly? If it's a game, what system and what is it about and is it worth getting? And... there's an anime? Someone please explain.
Kaede Avoid the anime, play AT LEAST the first game. Wild Arms is on PS1. It is WELL WORTH your time. It is without a doubt in my personal top 5 jrpg's of all time. There's a reason many people in the jrpg community regard it as a true classic.
I actually know this song from the Wild Arms anime! It was a special on the DVD's and I always had it on repeat when I first heard it. :3 Such a great song.

@CucumberTinker Yes, absolutely, the story is amazing, and it has 1 of the strongest boss of all time when you tried to get the strongest weapon in the game. It's more memorable than FFVII in terms of story.

But it's a VERY good game with very unique battle elements and an insanely good story, even by jrpg standards.

I mean, was this games really better then the stuff made today? Where we really born at the "right time" ? Or is this just nostalgia's fault and things made today can be as good as it was (for this generation) ? Like Squaresoft gold era ? Was it really golden ? Maybe todays kids are satisfied with Square-Enix ? Just to think of it makes me wanna vomit, but... anyway, I never asked a kid about it.
I wonder.. Maybe all these games and music are crap and we are just too sensitive ? Can this sense of nostalgia makes us that soft, at the point we love any kind of stuff thrown at us ? I really wanna believe this was the best stuff I could possibly find and that this is not just my plain opinion. @anexistentialdilemma The funny thing about this game, even though it was overshadowed... it was there for us when Final Fantasy 7 wasnt. It showed us love when FF7 was MIA. And for that, I love this game more then that over rated snore fest.

I still own this game never did beat it because I was young and people who made puzzles back then were actually good at their job and yet with all the graphic upgrades this is still one of my favourite games unlike most xbox360 or ps3 games the opening got me into it every time

When I need to calm my little brother down, I pull him down the PS3 and turn on WildARMS. This intro works like a charm. I recently managed to teach him how to play a bit of the game. (Also, he declared Rudy to be his favorite WildARMS character)

this game had a lot of effort and love and soul put into it. this game is just good for it´s soundtrack. i love whistling this anywhere. Pretty epic! 2nd one was pretty darn good also. i don´t know why many people give it bad remarks. worst one in the series in WA4 since you can´t enter buildings.
one thing i remember is how this game kinda started out slow and average but kept getting better and better as you progressed. i was really surprised around the halfway point by how damn good the game had gotten.
As a kid, i thought that playing video game would hit me so hard in the hart, but this one did and it stead with me into today. if only i still had a copy to share with others.

Best. Intro. Ever. Too bad it was wasted on such a crappy game. Funny story actually, the Japanese version of this game has a woman singing instead of the whistle, and the localization team changed it to the whistle when bringing it over.

I'd argue Alter Code F was better, but that might be because I played it first. With that said, this is still an awesome piece of music.
I remember playing this game when if first came out. It came out of nowhere and blew all the other RPGs out of the water, at the time. (Note: To FF fanboys, this game came out before FF7 did. So, keep quiet.) It was so unique and different from the other RPGs out there. Even it's storyline took twists and turns that players didn't see coming.

If you have a PSP or a PS3, you can purchase it for about $5 (it might be $10, I forget) from the playstation network. There is also a PS2 remake of this game called Wild Arms: Alter Code F, but it's not quite as good as the original. In any case, do yourself a favor and play the game.
