+XZSerpent A remake also came out on PS2 called Alter Code F. Both are good and have excellent sound tracks.
+David Alvarez And they also seem to have a new Wild Arms in the pipeline but the Japanese fans have my thanks for this if it comes true. They have been very vocal about a new entry for the past 4 years now, if I ever see Sony investing in a tons of JRPGs by themselves again I would think they waited for better hardware and possibilities to revive the genre. It was on a decline last gen with FF didn't changed, DQ was on handheld only, Hironobu Sakaguchi tried with Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey but no one was that excited for the same formula we have already seen in the PS2 era. It was for the best we skipped on one generation for JRPGs. FF is finally having a big change since FF7 with 15, Yakuza 6 is seamless (actually action/adventure but still), Star Ocean 5 is seamless, action RPG is experimenting and turn-based have been surpassed by Dragon's Dogma and Monster Hunter. Action RPG is not the basic gameplay we've seen in Star Ocean and KH, it can do a lot more now with the hardware we have now. PS3 and 360 weren't enough for that big change we wanted to see in JRPGs.

I'm not sure how big of an influence Ennio Morricone was for the writing of Wild ARMs' OST (probably #1 source... but 75%? 95%? dunno) but Rudy's theme is also a transcript of Ecstasy of Gold of the good the bad and the ugly

I feel like laziness is something common in every field nowadays - you get it in films, books, etc. 'Creating' music only takes ripping samples off other musicians. Even some Wild Arms tracks are based off those by Ennio Morricone, who in turn incorporated Native American themes to his music. It just takes brains, study, and a lot of travel/experience to understanding a culture or feeling and being able to express it through music. It's just that people choose to be lazy and depend on others.

I've always loved bg music more than lyrical cause instead of fixating on lyrics, you focus on the rhythm and instruments which each spur emotions of their own, and as a whole, creates a visual scenery in your head. I feel it takes a lot to make great music - not just by listening to other works, but through a bit of study, experience, adventure, and travel. Just listening to this song, I'm already someplace else - standing atop a high precipice, and viewing an endless barren desert lying below.
I think people are too harsh on newer video games. Sure, some games like CoD have pretty bland music. But there are a lot of modern video games that have music that is catchy as HELL. I'm playing Mario and Luigi: Dream Team currently, and the music in that game is freakin amazing. I can't get it out of my head. And Yoko Shimomura isn't the only great composer. There's Koji Kondo, Ryo Nagamatsu... the list goes on.
I disagree. Video game music is just as good now. At least in the games that I play. I was playing Super Mario Galaxy 2 a couple months ago, and I went back to the Puzzle Plank Galaxy just to hear the music. I think the levels are just OK in that Galaxy, yet I still replayed them just to hear the music. I don't own a PS3 or Xbox 360, but the games I have played on my Wii, 3DS, etc, have music just as damn good as the music found in old video games. (I've heard some good music on PS3 as well!)

True. They don't necessarily make it worse - but the philosophy's different now. Now it's more ambient, orchestral stuff. Occasionally they'll use the instruments to convey a mood, but rarely do current games strike up a great, hummable melody like this. Thankfully there are still a few games and composers that make this kind of music, it's just the norm anymore
I have a theory that game music composition has got lazy. When you have orchestral sounds you don't need to be as creative with composition. Look at older games and the way the music was sometimes superbly written, because writing was all they had available to make the music atmospheric. They didn't have instruments. Another of my favourite "stand in the level just listening to the music" experiences was Zue from Terranigma.

Depends on the story behind it. Wild Arms was my first RPG. Infact, I started "serious" gaming with it, when I was young^^' It was my older brothers game and I loved it. When he moved away he took it with him. When I was at his house for a visit I used to play it and beg him to give this game to me. He denied. And christmas, the year after he moved away, he gave it to me as a present. Can you think of how happy a little boy was that day?
True ._. That's what I'm complaining about when complaining about todays video games. They are good, yes. And enjoyable, yes. But I miss the old flare. If I want a special experience, I try to get hold of some old RPG's I haven't played yet or simply replay my old ones. Todays vgm ist just... The background. It is playing along. Back in the days of Wild Arms every song had a story or supported one. They fit into the specific locations they were played in ._. I miss these times.

You know, people complain too much on graphics nowadays. Its sweet that Battlefield 3 (not being sarcastic, I'm being truthful) has amazing graphics and takes physics in its gameplay, but I love a game with a good story and gameplay that is still enjoyable. I still play this game today, but I play on the ps3 because of the hdmi cable and has a cordless controller, but it is still a great game with the same nostalgic soundtrack and the much missed turn based strategy gameplay. This game is great!

I have posted on other video game soundtrack video pages on YouTube what I am about to say now: When a song in a game is so good that it causes you to stop just to enjoy the music, and makes you return to the part of the game where the music plays just so you can listen to that song again, you just know that music is something special. I miss the days when such music could be found in many games.... They truly do not make game music like they used to.

@nastynate3163 You were able to hum along to the whole song after not hearing it for 11 years because, back in the era when Wild Arms came out, composers still crafted music that was so good, it would stick with you for the rest of your life. I am sad to say that these days, music like this is rarely created.....

I've never played the game either, but it has a really unique feel that other games like ff9 and bof4 seem to also share in some of their songs.

This music was the best when I first played it at my Uncle's house as a kid visiting familys and friends. Now, few years... I have thought of trying to get the original Wild Arms playstation game since I really haven't beat it. Lol This song touch my heart as I close my eyes visauling of flying around the world in peace. (Left hand thumb up.)

@gaminggoddess85 It does unfortunately though I'm too lazy to check if its exactly the same...the one in Altercode: F is just as annoying especially if you do this one part wrong. Best advice: Multiple saves and save often. Devoted an entire memory card to that one dungeon.

@tharob When I was a little kid, I went to buy an SNES game (Mechwarrior) and Mr. Behind-The-Counter guy dissuaded me by telling me it was too hard, and it sucked anyway. I tried and loved it at a friend's, and subsequently became a huge Armored Core fan later. Can you believe, something like 17 years later, I still remember and resent him? If someone had convinced me the same of Wild ARMs, I firmly believe I would have missed out on an irreplaceable part of my childhood.

This is why I never read reviews, I never listen to anyone's opinion, and I get a game simply because my gut tells me it's going to kick ass. it's what made me pick up earthbound, it's what made me buy this, and it's what made me check out parasite eve. Gut's always right :P

The only turnoff you can give for this game is the graphics, which while I wasn't expecting much since this was basically a PS release game, were just awful to look at. But once you move past that you have a solid story with a balanced battle system.

Despite being outdated, the music was orchastrated in the beginning scenes. I condsider it to have best music of the series. Furthermore, having beaten 1, 2 and 3, I'd say they died a bit in the epic department after the original.

this song has been replaying itself over and over in my head in an infinite loop for over 2 weeks now. i've tried listening to other catchy songs but nothing helps, it keeps comming back..all day! and just when the flutes fade out and i think it might be over.. the bassline kicks in, doom doo-doo doom doo-doo doom. don't get me wrong, its a very nice song, but for gods sake go away!!

I can only talk about the wild arms series but some things that led it to not do so well were probably that when they switched to 3d, they didn't try to make the environments as pretty, varied as well. In the first game there were lots of outdoor spaces within a dungeon, a town turning into a dungeon, an invisible dungeon. The other games became a bit predictable. Also, I think part 3's translation should have been a bit looser. That dialogue came off as hookey sometimes.
obviously he's talking about the same ending you are but he was able to initiate before he seperated from marle. I actually thought the game was glitched when they let me fight the last boss with just one character, and I just followed it through thinking I'd die(in one try back in the late 90s). Course... that wasn't even my save. I had played Chrono trigger before and gotten quite far but the game wasn't mine so I bought it and noticed a save plus(had no idea what it was).
No, you didn't get the best ending. The best ending is if you start a New Game +, and defeat Lavos at the beginning of the game with just Chrono.
surprising enough, my brother got me into it and he was SOOOOOO far. he was in Malduke. He saved it before the final battle with that golem that does Genocide Flare, and then Zeikfreid, and the its Mother Freid and then Zeik Tuvai. He would always lose to Mother Freid. I started a new save file and beat it before him. lol.

The fact that you found Wild Arms 2 astounds me. I lost the first disc...the second disc remains as a relic of the good ol days. Kudos to you man for buying it just for this song. Wild Arms 2 - Thinking on a sentiment would've sufficed too. But I still like the series...even after the debacle that 4 was in my opinion.
