I may have to replay this game someday, without the anticipation of it being a sequel to Chrono Trigger. That almost inevitably led me to being disappointed and I feel like I may have not given it a fair shake. I did like the game even back then, however. What I can say for sure is that Mitsuda created an amazing soundtrack... while also somehow composing one of my most hated battle themes. Dragon's Prayer is one of my favorites and when Mitsuda composed some tracks for Shadow Hearts 1&2, his use of guitar would always remind me of this theme's.
I was always a fan of the music in Chrono Chross, but that's where it ended. I didn't care much for the story, combat system, and barely the characters. I think the game would have been much better off if it didn't use the Chrono name, or alternatively if it chose to actually be a sequel to one of the best RPG's ever made.
I played Chrono Cross first, so I loved the game for its concepts and writing/story (and I really liked Serge a lot, lol) and ... that god damn blue ... without the shadow of Trigger hanging over it. I loved the OST, too, despite it being one of the first Mitsuda ever composed, I think? But you're very right about that battle theme, lol. Not his forte.
Ahhh Chrono Cross. My best j-rpg ever with Final Fantasy 9. Best memories....
I hope that you get to play it again someday. Cross is my favorite game of all time. Listening to "dream from another shore" always makes me feel something magical. Mitsuda's score is a masterpiece.
This reminds me of a xenogears song a lot, especially 435-445, which is also found earlier

One of my favorite dungeon themes EVER. Mitsuda really was a master of them. The atmosphere going through this last dungeon was incredible.
I love this theme and this battle so much. Chrono Cross is definitely one of my favorite games ever.

The first videogame ost I ever bought. Listening to this song reminds me of the lazy summer I had when I first played this game.

Played the crap out of both Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger. Treated both games as different experiences. Chrono Cross is probably one of the best games I played that explored the whole parallel worlds concept.
Chrono Cross is a great game that gets a bad rap simply because it's not quite what people expected in a Chrono followup. And that's the other issue, I can't in good faith call it a sequel as that implies it has some stronger connection to CT's plot, when really it simply follows up on one story from CT and happens to talk about the after effects of the rest of the cast(it's specifically about Schala and Belthasar). I'd love if we could get either an actual sequel that follows Crono and the gang or directly ties into their game, or if we can't get that then a 3D remake like how we're getting one on Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy VII or what happened with Final Fantasy IV.
yeah, its a weird middle ground where its both way too tied into CT, and not tied in enough. i REALLY wish i could like everything about cross, but i cant stand what it did to the nice, simple story of the first game.

Chrono Cross still has the best soundtrack ever composed, IMO.
I played the shit out of Chrono Trigger, but I never actually got my hands on Chrono Cross. Looks like I have some catching up to do.
