Chrono Cross was a sequel to what happened in Chrono Trigger. Just one sequel, out of infinite possibilities that we in our insignificant lives can never experience. The corridors of time will go on. But we'll always have that short and bittersweet moment together.
One of the best games for ps1 ever created along with Xenogears and other great RPGs (too many to mention, but those two were my fav)

Having played the translated Radical Dreamers and having read about how ridiculously complicated Chrono Cross' plot and underlying backstory is I can safely say that the latter was not just a "rehash" of the former. I have no links to back this up since it was an image, but without a doubt chrono cross is the most intellectually challenging story in video games. I couldn't even fathom it's complexity while it was being spelled out to me by that image.

CC answers the question that CT poses, "What happens to the futures that disappear when the past changes?" Without CT, CC wouldn't exist. Could they make it work without any of the connections? Yes, but as it stands it is a sequel and I think it's unfair to say otherwise. As for the battle system and what-not, I think that's more of it being a sequel and trying something new rather than reusing the same thing. Besides things like techs were still in, so they kept some things.
Not a sequel, but a successor to the name "Chrono." Many people see it as a sequel when they shouldn't. Due to Chrono Triggers positive ratings many people assumed this game would be just as great or even better, but their expectations were a bit to high. This game should be treated as it's own game. A great game with a memorable sound track.
I bought this game, got 10 hours in. Didn't like it, took it back and got the 4 disk sound track instead. Best summer ever!
More like a game in the same series... If that makes sense. Not a sequel in the true sense (As in, Half-Life and Half-Life 2 being a continuation) but it fits appropriately enough to be in the same series.

Chrono Cross' story is a rehashed plot from an interactive novel called Radical Dreamers. It features many of the same songs and characters from that 'game.' It was fitted to be the 'sequel' of Chrono Trigger but ties in so loosely it's almost shameful on Square's part. Regardless, the game is quite well done and the soundtrack is superb, as Mitsuda usually dishes out.

I've been around since #40 or so... I've grown a lot since then.
Still, On 1/3 of all the videos I see your face- I don't know, I guess it's nice to know there are a lot of people who also enjoy this list.
In a way, there are references and it does tie in but only slightly, think of it more as a spiritual successor, don't go in expecting Chrono Trigger 2 and you'll be satisfied with it, so many played it wanting more Trigger and were disappointed.

Oh, Xenogears....so many great memories from that game. I loved Chrono Cross as well, but no other RPG from the PS1 era remained with me as fondly as Xenogears.

Yes it is but most fans will deny that due to the drastic change in gameplay style. In my opinion since I beat this before Trigger gotta say that both games are awesome in their own way.

I'm surprised you didn't have this uploaded already, heh. This was always one of my favorite tracks from my all-time favorite soundtrack. Anyway, great game; they took the great world of Chrono Trigger and fixed its only weaknesses (generic battle system and weak character development) to one-up what was already a masterpiece.

It was supposed to be, but the connections were pretty loose. AMAZING soundtrack, but the story and gameplay get mixed reviews. Almost everyone agrees it wasn't up to Chrono Trigger's level (really, nothing is).

The only thing connecting this games is the word "Chrono", final boss and the girl with him, i think her name is Schala.
The stories get a brief tie-in towards the end of the game. Aside from that, the games are nothing alike. I remember an interview the the game's devs explicitly saying that Chrono Cross was not a sequel to Chrono Trigger; not directly, at least.
it's mitsuda's celtic town theme haha. he has it in almost every game, at least back then.
I've never played this or Chrono Trigger. I hear all the time how great they are, but I have trouble getting into JRPGs. Regardless, this music is very catchy and cheerful.

Fun note: This song sounds almost IDENTICAL to the first town in Xenogear's theme. (The one with Lucca in it)
I love this game in it's own right, but the soundtrack is the entity that I always come back to. Every piece achieves something that is rare and precious: making the game and setting feel even bigger and more detailed than it already is. I must replay it now.
Not a direct sequel of sorts. Like you definitely didnt have to play Chrono Trigger to play Chrono Cross although you should play Chrono Trigger anyway ha. Both are great games in their own right.

Love this music. Love this game. Very glad you chose this as part of VGM. Mitsuda did such a fantastic job composing...I only wish CC was more well received. Because I like the game more then CT *sigh* oh well I guess games like COD is what this generation wants.............:(

Sort of. It does follow A story from Chrono Trigger, though you wouldn't know what one until quite late into the game when the pieces of the whole game fall into place. It's admittingly a controversial point of the game that for many either makes, or breaks the game. I'd say though as most tend to agree that it's still a good game, and even better actually if you take it on it's own merits and just enjoy it for what it is rather than cry that it's not a DIRECT sequel to CT and a different cast.

No, it was the last Bill & Ted movie they ever made. Everyone agrees that the Wyld Stallyns had better music in this, but the time travel got kinda messed up.
Mitsuda's celtic style is always immediately recognizable. This and Xenogears are probably the two PS1 RPGs I most want to replay, I haven't played them since their initial release.
