While this game wasn't the BEST, it was definitely GOOD, don't get me wrong, it nailed the genre, but the title theme is just SO good. It's peaceful, yet envokes a touch of sadness, and it's just so well composed. I could sleep to it.

Everytime I heard this song I think how did they go from a 2D videogame to this masterpiece. They completely made a perfect gem from scratch.
Hey, recently I've been working on a lo fi version of this song. I don't really have any tools for this; except for my keyboard. I can't really read sheet music so this video has, and still is helping me a lot, let it be when I'm trying to mimic the notes, or whenever I'm sad. Coincidentally, the opening ocarina melody is the same as the Warp Melody from Super Mario Brothers 3
Well both were made by Koji Kondo so I assume he just forgot he already used that melody in Mario 3.
A genius like him doesn’t forget. It was a conscious effort due to the fact that there is a warp element to both.

I know that everyone says that this is the best Zelda game of all time but, to be honest, it never really appealed to me. Call me crazy, but I enjoyed Link's Awakening DX a whole lot more than Ocarina of Time. Not to say it isn't fun, though.

It's still my favorite game of all time. OOT was perfect in every sense of the word. LTTP is almost as good. You can't go wrong with Zelda in general, although I couldn't finish Skyward Sword.

ive always felt video game music can be incredibly powerful, but nothing quite matches the emotional resonance of a good title theme. ocarina of time's title them evokes emotion i can barely describe in words, it at once beckons you on a beautiful, epic adventure and makes you long for a simpler time. its wonderful.

This was one of the games I first got hyped about before it was released. I still remember watching the diddy kong racing or star fox 64 video Nintendo Power sent me that showed like 2 seconds of zelda in the clips of upcoming games at the end. I would rewind that over and over.

Well, for those who say it’s overrated, it’s obvious that if you see it at this point it may look like that, but you have to remember that this was the first game that tried a lot of things. When you played it in that time it was all fresh, all anew. I’m so grateful for that experience... I feel so lucky... Who knows when other generation will have the opportunity to experience that... OOT and Mario 64 made the foundations of a whole generation of games to come.

I was 8 when i used to play this with my uncle.I use to think that Link was Zelda until my uncle told me who was who but now that I'm older, I can beat Ganon awsome form!
i can't explain in words the deep emotions that this song brings to mind. i went back as a teen and finally finished the game thoroughly (who finishes things as kids anyway?). and i must say, i cried a deep, inward cry of life and happiness at the end scene.

Honestly I don't understand why OOT is so popular. Granted, I played it in 2003, but I've since played many other early 3D games that I missed and I still enjoyed them. OOT...not so much.

This game was amazing. I remember playing it when I was like, 3-4. I thought, "This music is amazing". At age 8, I was a gamecube fanatic, and my gamecube broke. :( So I went to put my gamecube away, and I found my N64 next to the garbage. My mother said I didn't use it, so she would throw it away. So I picked my N64, and still in the actual system, was my freaking LoZ OoT. Nostalgia hit me. HARD. =D I'm 14, and I'll never forget the N64. Never.
@TheKaradom I like this game as the base for the other 3D Zeldas that followed it, but I will admit, it is kinda overrated. I feel that people just love it for the nostalgia value. For me, that goes to Wind Waker.

God I hate this game. I never got an N64 as a kid. I played the original Zelda for the NES first, then Wind Waker for the GC, then this with the Master Quest edition. As much as I wished I liked this game, I don't. I enjoyed watching my Dad playing through it, but I will never complete this game.

@TheGamerGForever It's pretty good, gotta admit, but I haven't made it all that far yet. Just defeated the King Dodongo, haven't had that much time to play due to all kinds of shit going in real life. Yea, I'm kinda frustrated and don't feel like playing videogames... not now at least.
Alot of this game's music seems recycled and cleaned up in a beautiful way like do you notice in Zora's Domain it sounds like in some parts like World 3 in Super Mario Bros. 3 and the Warp Whistle in part of the theme and that is what is why i personally love Nintendo because they can do that and make it still sound crisp and Brand new and in this case Beautiful :)

These little extra might be worth a lot for some hardcore fans. The only real upside I see is being able to play this anywhere, and I'm not really into handheld console...

Heh, so many times I booted up this game just to hear this melody. An instant wave of nostalgia, memories, and that peace-inducing element music can so magically wield would swash over.

This game was good...never really beat it, but it was good. My favorite Zelda will always be A Link to the Past. I've beaten that game like three times and can play it again if I wanted. Ocarina of Time was good, but I'd rather two new games than have to spend money for a 3DS and the game again.

@DrRhythmStyx OoT is a great game, my 5th favorite game of all time, 2nd favorite Zelda game, but it is definitely the most overrated Zelda game.
@SupraDarky This is actually my favorite Ocarina of Time song, probably because of all the memories it brings back of when I was younger.

Another contender for a x00 theme! I'm wondering, is it really worth it to get this game on the 3DS? I mean, for all the gamers who already played this game before, they probably already possess it. Is it just for a reason to play the game again? On my part, if I wanted to play it again, I'll just pop-up my N64 cart, and play on my tv. Improved graphics? Ok, maybe... I assume this re-release is meant for younger players that didn't have the chance to play it, which would be an honorable goal.
@fingrid We will always have the original soundtrack in the original game. I'm a musician myself and I really like when they remake music, sometimes they make the songs even more impressive and epic, and sometimes they fail. Just adding to the quality of the classic ones would make me happy, but re-using the original OST isn't ok

I'm think about buying this game only cause OoT have come out. It disappointed me a little that they didn't remake the music though. Even if it wouldn't turn out so well, we would still see that they are trying
@SupraDarky I heard it's still the same soundtrack (OoT 3D). Of course, there is nothing wrong with this soundtrack! But you know, an updated, remastered soundtrack to go along with the updated graphics would have been awesome.

I've read people say in the comments that this theme comes from SMB3's whistle theme. I guess that's true in a way, but some people are forgetting that SMB3's whistle theme itself comes from the first Zelda's flute theme. So this melody truly was made for Zelda, not Mario. ;P

@SupraDarky I have a nice collection of zelda games on my Gamecube, note you can get OOT, Majoras mask, Wind waker, a bunch of the old gameboy games AND the Twilight Princes, for the gamecube. It's a pretty awesome. You don't have to bother with that hassle of a 64 controller stick that gets limp after so so long. I suggest you look around for it :)

The one for Nintendo 64 is really fun. Glad I was able to win the original N-64 version on Listia. I hope to get a 3DS for my birthday so I can get Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the 3DS.

@GameMasterGuy if it wasn't for oot, MM and TP( which wasn't up to the expectation) wouldn't actually existed.
Got it. Love it. It takes getting used to the 3D(which you shouldn't turn on full blast right off the bat. In fact, the game gives off just as good 3D as full blast on the minimum setting). It gives a reason to finally go out and get the system(not that all the games are bad, just not must haves, this being the only one so far, 3DS sales will most likely sky rocket with the mass of games for it in August). This is not one to pass up on.
@GameMasterGuy I agree, except with Twilight Princess. That was just clone of OoT to keep the hordes of OoT fans settled after they all complained about Wind Waker.
Overrated game. Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess, as well as my favorite Zelda of all time, ALTTP, are all better. It's till a solid 5/5 game, but it's just not my favorite.

@dwagothegod You should really go and finish it. It's available on many platforms so it shouldn't be hard to track down if you don't have a copy already. Not the best ending, but a very fullfilling one to complete.

@SupraDarky i was waiting till oot was released to buy my 3ds too, but i will propably only do so next month :( here in brazil a video game is a really expensive thing. considering 1 dollar = 1,60 real now, in a store u would pay more than 700 us dolars for a 3ds, so we usually have to buy them on ebay, and it takes a few weeks (2 when u r lucky, more when u arent, and u also gotta be lucky not to have ur console or game taxed, which usually make it twice as expensive), not to mention the games

Ocarina of Time, such a classic video game. Now that it's brought to the 3DS, perhaps the newer gamers will have a chance to see what made gaming so awesome in the first place. Especially when they hear masterpieces such as this.

With this game out on the 3DS now, that's reason enough for me to buy the console. I'll probably get it at the end of the week as I have my mid-term exams this week. The amount of memories attached to this game is enormous, definitely one of the games that had the biggest impact on me as a kid. I know I'm not the only person who would just lay the controller down and stare at this title screen.
