I recently played OOT on the 3DS, and having played a lot of N64 games I can see why it was such a great game for its time. It was extremely well-done considering that 3D was so new at the time.

I thought skyward sword was a blast, though due to some pretty huge flaws it's probably only an 8/10 in my book.. Sad, because I thought all of those flaws could've been easily fixed.
Why does it feel like it's getting closer?
Reminds me of running round that cave for the first time, trying to figure out what to do. Whilst contantly being run down by that fucking rolling Goron.
I really enjoyed Skyward Sword. It may not have had the a grand universe like the previous 3D games, but it was quite fun. I thought the time stones mechanic was really nifty and awesome. And the motion controls were actually fun.

@SnapSunny Also doing things in any order without negatively affecting stat increases or exclusive abilities or something like that would be nice. Probably not the most popular opinion here.
@SnapSunny The only problem I have with that is how long games are as you'll not want to get 60 hours in and get another chance at a certain decision. I don't want to have to start over because of a decision the game didn't warn me about. I think it would be nice to enable the same equipment options and get the characters to the same power, but the story takes a different path. Tales of Symphonia's two paths at the beginning is what I'm getting at.
@SnapSunny There are so many open ended games like that around if I understand what your saying. In the Witcher 2 supposedly one of the choices you make leads you down a completely different game then if you picked the another choice. Meaning you will not see a lot of the game depending on what you choose.
@SnapSunny Yeah but the people who are playing the COD games are going to keep growing and growing. I'm telling you Zelda has a much smaller role in todays gamer than say 15 years ago. Companies keep making FPS because they make money, bottom line, and they will continue to come out for years to come.

@SnapSunny Nintendo's current philosophy is developing games that everyone can pick up and play. This means games that have to also appeal to non-gamers; hence making them linear and less difficult. Sony and Microsoft have the hardcore gamers on lock, so Nintendo has to find market share elsewhere.
@SupraDarky You just grew up in a different generation. Zelda OOT is by far the best Zelda game ever because of what it did for video games. Skyward Sword is a great game but look at the other games it has to compete with. Older gamers still talk about Zelda OOT as one of the best games ever. 10 years from now gamers are going to talk about COD, Halo, GOW, as being the best games ever. Skyward Sword will be an after though in gamers minds.
I loved Skyward Sword moreso for story and combat than anything. I'll admit, yes, a lot of other aspects I was not a fan of and while it's a great game I don't understand the 10/10. I feel a little like reviewers these days are way too generous with those perfect scores, seeing as Skyrim got them, Arkham City, Uncharted 3, and plenty of others. All good games but you can notice none of them are 100% what they claim to be and thus how can they be perfect? OoT and Chrono Trigger for life.
@SupraDarky After giving it some thought, I have to say that it's probably my favorite game in the franchise so far. The story in SS was so strong and emotional, plus that the upgrades and motion controls really made it a better experience. I do feel that the game was a little linear though. If Twilight Princess would have more content in Hyrule Field, I would probably have that as my favorite, or Link's Awakening. The Oracle's was really great too except for the upgrading part, too complicated.
I actualy like SKyward sword more than Twilight princes. The controls where solid. Fun sidequest. Great graphics.Great envirment, but most of all the traveling went soo fast. Midst in a jungle u just warp outside warp up get some potions and fly back. I also liked the story and characters alot more in Skyward and the music is really good. Specially in the desert!

Have to disagree with you there, I thought the music overall was very memorable, on par with the other 3D Zeldas. The dungeons were simpler in terms of layout and size, maybe, but each room individually felt like more care was put into it visually and gameplay-wise. I generally agree though about the transportation system in that having only three main regions, disconnected from each other, was disappointing. Would have been nice to be able to fly the loftwing beneath the clouds.
Gotta say say SW was a very good game, but i agree that the dungeons were too easy :/ i need i guide in some zelda games for all the dungeons... but i actually never needed a guide with those temple... also, yes, the autdoor movement (the flying one) was friking boring, also very dissapointing cause u only need the bird a boss and to move...

@SupraDarky its all opinion, i love all zelda games, but my favorite 3d zelda games were exactly the ones you didnt say were your favorites, majoras mask, wind waker, and skyward sword ftw!, i still love this game though, and TP to a lesser extent
@SupraDarky This Zelda felt more streamlined and narrative driven to me. Stamina running and branching sidequests. Smooth motion controls. Sexuality having a narrative focus. It felt like Nintendo's attempt at making Zelda more modern and accessible. Like David Fincher rather than David Lynch. More relatable, cinematic style, over abstract artistry.. The lack of solid melodies was pretty offputting though. Symphony Orchestra syndrome hitting Nintendo too?? I hope not.

Gorons are awesome. There's a reason why they're some of the most popular Zelda races you see in any give Zelda game.
I dunno, I thought that Skyward Sword had a lot of creativity put behind it. I mean there were multiple times during the storyline where you had to go back to the same area with a completely different plot behind it. That to me was more interesting than having the majority of the storyline and sidequests used up in the first third of the game, making the last half completely dungeoncrawler like in Twilight Princess.

@ProtoRez I agree. Fi is the most useless, annoying sidekick ever. I wrote a reply to Supras comment saying that too. The only comfort to me is that Link and Zelda had a much more enjoyable relationship in SS than TP. Link and Zelda is the pairing in SS, but Link and Midna is the pairing in TP, so to speak. At least that's my opinion. (I just want to forget about Fi.. but I conjecture that there's a 95% probability that I cannot.)
@SupraDarky Oh yeah, and Fi is the most annoying, useless sidekick EVER. Her lines were utterly annoying, and completely obvious. >Sign says: This way to Funkytown! @SupraDarky In Twilight Princess the interaction between Link and Midna was really what was interesting. Link and Zelda didn't really have much to do with each other. So I liked that aspect of Skyward Sword. They had a more personal relationship, much like in Wind Waker. The only problem with WW though, is that once [SPOILER] Tetra became Zelda, she was basically removed from the game and turned into a doll. Her personality was completely wiped.
@SupraDarky I agree that the overworld and the dungeons (and items) were a big let-down. But what makes me love Skyward Sword is that I was really touched by the story, and I'm a sucker for love stories. Skyward Sword was really more of a love story than a good vs. evil thing, in my opinion. Link and Zelda had such a bond, and their characters were fantastic. Compared to other Zelda games when Link and Zelda don't really know each other at all.
Just throwing this out there, and you can totally disagree. But I find Fi really freaking annoying. Like, we've all heard the "hey! listen!" jokes regarding Navi. And they're true. But I find Fi actually worse. It makes me really miss Midna. You know, a side character important to the plot, technically more powerful than you are, and not ALWAYS on your side. That was fun.
@PipoSaga I haven't played MM or SS yet, but TP and WW are two of the best games ever made. OoT is a little outdated by comparison, especially traveling the overworld.
@SupraDarky I say that Skyward Sword is my personal favorite. It did a bunch of things right, I couldn't even find anything wrong with it. All the music was spot on and fun to listen to. Some people say that the controls are broken but really I say they work perfectly. Skyward Sword is better when you play it for your first time without any expectations, remember that and you will have more fun!
I now want to learn how to play bongo.
@Hawelo92 Of course I'm going to still play it, just with lower expectations. Perhaps it'll surprise me this way.
@harrylane4 the overworked was insanely impressive, and the music was great, along with the storyline. Even so, something about the story seemed rushed

@SupraDarky I feel like the weird one here... I loved twilight princes as much as anyone else, but I feel it skipped out on some of the heart that games like wind waker and Ocarina. Yes, Midna was an amazing character, and I want to see her again (or any cursed twili, for that matter) but something was... Off.

@SupraDarky With the smaller dungeons and less fluent movement, it makes me feel that this game was made before TP, but maybe that was the intention and to not duplicate the exact same thing over in favor of style. With TP, it had an enormous overworld, but it was somewhat empty, and I was anticipating that they would fill more areas with more memory space to work with since TP was a 2006 launch title. In the end, I liked the new ideas TP didn't have, but SS seems to be missing with others had.

@SupraDarky I kind of agree, they shouldn't have made us wait that long for a game that wasn't even as good as their last (platform games of course).

@SupraDarky Also, only 1 town and unmemorable music except for the character and boss themes. There were some great things though. Skyloft was awesomely well designed, cool equipment upgrades, motion controls I personnaly loved and which made battles always a thing to look forward to. Still a good game, but when it disappoints you with its overworld and its dungeons (Twilight Princess spoiled me), you can't help but feel like it missed the mark.
Well this is still my favorite 3D Zelda with Twilight Princess. I might not make some friends here, but I was disappointed with Skyward Sword. I finished it about a month ago and decided to give it some time before judging it, I just didn't feel it matched the greatness of the previous games in the series. Almost everything between the dungeons felt like a chore, repetitive locales, simple dungeons and the worst outdoor mode of transportation yet in the series.
