I know favorite games often have a lot to do with when you played them and your mindset and what was going on at the time. But OoT came out my senior year of highschool and was one of my last solid solo gaming experiences for a while (i played MGS a year later after it was out that too), after that I had college roomates and was gaming, but a lot more multiplayer and with other people around. This song, the level, the game, its not my favorite zelda, but possibly my single favorite dungeon in any zelda game.
They must have had this theme in mind when they did "Mass Effect - C-Sec-Academy"

This song is the ONLY Reason that the forest temple scared me more than the shadow temple. the shadow temple was creepy, but this song...this song makes you feel like you're deep in a forest.
Fear is different to everyone. We all have our kinds of fears. To me, the Forest Temple theme was more eerie than creepy. The darkish, foggy atmosphere of the Temple gave a scary, haunted feel to it. However, the Shadows Temple's atmosphere & music is really what scared the crap out of me as a kid D:
@Chrisevil Totally agree. The Forest Temple is definitely an unsettling place, and the theme doesn't help. I always thought of the Shadow Temple as more upbeat because I was expecting it to be dark and eerie. I didn't expect the Forest Temple to be the way it was, so little me was a lot more frightened by this theme.

A lot of people seem to find this temple and its music creepy. For me, the temple that takes the spotlight on ''haunted'' is the demented and eerie Shadow Temple. The Forest one, to me, simply seems to hold power, not an evil one, but still not a power that likes you.

Why wasn't this Track release on the Official Soundtrack? Actually the "Official" Soundtrack has many tracks left out...but this was a Full Dungeon track and a DAMN good one at that

Damn I love these lists... Some music in OoT is pure masterpieces, but I think the game itself is not as good as for example MM or WW. It's still great though. And the 3DS version is the better one of the two.

I get a specific vibe from this music that reminds me of Tomba!, of all things. Specifically, the haunted forest in the second game... seems appropriate, I guess.

I wonder where this game will be in 500 years, do you think the people of the future will still know about it, or maybe in the future there will be a history class where you learn about old entertainment from the past, who knows. it trips me out to think about, because even if someone owned a copy of Zelda that was 500 years old, there would be no way to play it, in the future they probably wouldn't still have A/V plugins on their tvs.
JordanMeAwesome I've thought a little bit about how some classic entertainment will age. OOT is not That old, relatively speaking. But in terms of video games, it's getting "old". Electronics and electronic entertainment ages fast I guess. Just the way it is. In 500 years, I should hope that this game will still be remembered. It'll still be fun to play I'll bet. Good games never die. Same with music, movies, TV, etc. But subjective nonetheless. I'm still betting it'll hold it's own no matter how much time may pass.

I HAVE the Wind Waker. I actually like the artstyle. But I haven't played it intenselly yet. I am currently in the first fortress.
If you don't already have it, then good luck getting your hands on Wind Waker.
You know, I need to man up one of these days and brave those Skulltula's.... I want to finish this game! I bought it! So it is my duty to sit it through! Reminds me I also have to play through Wind Waker one of these days, and Majora's Mask.... And a Link to the Past.... And the original... And the Adventure of Link... So many games, so little time.

I have COD MW1, WaW, MW2, Blops and MW3 on my own. Skyrim too. What i mean is, that i never want that the next generations forget that awesome classic games, cause they too epic to get disappered.
I'm about as hardcore into retro games as they come but you don't have to hate on newer stuff... COD and WoW both just suffer from franchise fatigue, Skyrim is great minus a buggy ship. In short, rock out on the classic stuff for sure, but this notion of wanting to hate anything thats new is a disturbing trend/fad to me.
I remember being so impressed with the graphics in this temple and how cool Link looked now that he was all grown up.

Is it just me, or am I the only one who seems to not have been creeped out by this music the first time playing OoT? I was more focused on making sure to find all the loot and couldn't wait to see the boss. This song is bad ass!

I believe I had recently turned 10 when I got this game for Christmas. Walked into the Forest Temple and just stopped for like a full minute. This was some seriously scary and foreboding music to me. I thought it was cool that when Link became an adult, the developers threw a more mature and less whimsical dungeon at you.
I remember there being some puzzles in this level that would've frustrated the hell out of me if this music wasn't playing. It's so soothing and positive. This is one of the few videogame songs I have downloaded that aren't remixes, I like it that much. :)

When i was a kid I loved this temple. The eerie music and atmosphere of this place was always something I enjoyed. Even today dark, cold and eerie places which seem like they're haunted keep drawing my attention.... maybe because of this temple. God I love this theme so much.

I got so lost in this temple i used the music as hint. That was the time when i really started to like this temple.
This was by far my fav temple, i remeber when i played this when i was like 6 and when i walked in and heard this im like " Hey, why don't i not move, so nothing scares the crap out of me. " then i did and the wolves made me piss my pants. ahhhhhhhhh good times

This temple... It's something special. The atmosphere's spot on, the puzzles have just the right amount of challenge, and the boss fight was great. Not to mention the creepiness of temple itself. An overgrown, haunted, abandoned temple... *shivers*

This was just inhuman, scary music + hands falling down from the ceiling without warning + strange temple with upside down rooms was clearly too much for me. I was more afraid by Zelda than Resident Evil back there :D

I think a lot of the fear associated with this song has to do with the fact that a lot of people played this game when they were kids, so if the first thing you hear when walking into an abandoned, overgrown temple is this creepfest, it can be pretty unsettling. Then, you're immediately attacked by Wolfos and you've got some good nightmare fuel for a week or so.

i used to have a nightmare where i walked outside got grabbed by that creepy wall hand and had to start my dream all over again...
The moment I stepped into the front entrance of the Forest Temple and this music started playing, I knew that the game was telling me that happy play time was over and now was the time to get serious. There's something serene and mysterious, yet there's a hint of the sinister here that had me thoroughly creeped out the entire dungeon. Not to mention the first encounter with those wall/floor masters... No other Zelda monster has ever scared me more than those have.
It's like there's something going horribly wrong. and it's twisted. But you aren't bothered- Why aren't you bothered? Because you're having the most beautiful dream... From which you will never wake again. That's what the song sounds like

You know you play alot of Ocarina of Time when you're used to hearing wolfin's howl at the beginning of this piece.
This should have been higher. But the official soundtrack cd doesn't do it justice. I've recorded the music from the game and it sounds MUCH better. More flowing and haunting, less choppy.

What's REALLY impressive is that there's an entire culture based around the EARLY gaming consoles, like the Atari 2600 and the NES. It's hard to say you can "reminisce" about something that isn't very old... You gotta figure, it was honestly the last big step in gaming, with the jump to 3D and all.

I remember doing a 3 heart challenge game. I didn't even equip a shield or anything. I had no trouble at all since I played the game 7 times before I did the challenge. Phantom Ganon was the only boss I had trouble with. I can't STAND HIM!!! His lightning ball killed in 1 hit!

When I was about 9 or 10 and first exploring the game, I came into the Forest Temple. This music scared the hell out of me, and as I went in deeper I found the wallmasters.... Those scared the shit out of me so much it took me about 3 or 4 years before I even went back in. And even then I had my sister come in there with me when I was going through the twisted hallway, because I knew..... Those fucking Wallmasters were going to be out to get me.
@N00bkeek No, I always asked my brother to do it. I don't know why, but everytime, there was a room that I couldn't find... Tried to go back again at the beginning, try again... Until my brother come back and show me the room. Then, everything was cleared, and I could fight the boss. I hated the Forest Temple, Water Temple and the damn Shadow Temple. Desert Temple and Fire Temple were my favorite.

You know, I thought that this song couldn't ever become creepier. Then OCRemiX artist pixietricks released her version. It's good, but ramps the creepiness up to 11.
@MrLookaplane The first time it happened to me was because I walked away from my TV for a second and I returned to find myself with less hp and at the start of the temple. I soon found out what it was when I was playing around with the camera and I freaked out and pissed my pants.

I like this song but after listening it for an hour or more in the Forest Temple it makes me wanna bang my head againts a wall. I think this was one of the most tiring templs In my opinion.

I love how themes like this were embedded into my head as a child, and I didn't even give a shit about VGMs back then. Now that I really like VGMs, coming back to these themes really gives me a nice nostalgic feeling, as well as a newfound appreciation and realization of just how good themes like these are.

I always hated this temple because of those damn ceiling hand dudes! Ugh...I always "glitched" so that I could do the other temples and then come back into this one with all the kickass weapons.

wow playing the forest temple, with all that green and playing it in the rain, is just epic omg. I played this level on 2005, and it was so relaxing, and the trees the feeling of being somewhere hidden in a forest no one has visited in thousand's of years. the trees this is just beautiful lol.
i love that temple, the first time i solved the temple puzzles and beated the boss was in a saturday or sunday summer afternoon in year 2001, it took me 4 hours cause i misunderstood a thing of the eye switches said by an exfriend that gave me the game, i felt a calm with the graphics and sound atmosphere

the temple itself isint that scarey but the trippey music freaks me out... when i was a kid i thought it was terrifying... and if you listen closley (1:10) you can hear a guy... groning . freaks me out

i remember having the hardest time with this dungeon... who knew a key was in the tree in the first room!
they even moan when they're dancing as far as i remembered =P hate those things.. remember the first time learning the suns song, just running hoping they won't kill you!

Being stuck in this temple.. for a long time and constantly keep listening to this music will drive you insane. When I first played this game back then I got so lost... just remember to shoot those damn pictures
Ah, that's such a haunting track. Some sounds are similar to birds but on some parts (very clear to hear at 1: 13) there are such strange and scary sounds and I always had the picture in mind that a is nearly drowning in a sea because some monster pulls him under and these sounds are his breathless yelps for mercy.
This is ridiculously random, but this music is either incredibly similar to, or just heavily reminds me of, the music in the haunted forest sections of Tomba! 2. As I may have been one of the six people in the world to complete that game, this comment is addressed to the other five.
OoT soundtrack is so freaking random and varied it's unreal. I'm glad they were crazy enogh to put this track into the game, so freaking awsome.

The song reminds me of walking through a forest at night and breathing cold air, AND YES those demon things you find when your an adult scared the crap out of me when I turned the first corner and saw this half human/dog thing running toward me especially the one with the bat at the end making those weird noises whenever he smashed his bat at the ground.
This is one of my fav tracks from OoT, it gave the forest temple the perfect athmosphere.
Oh my god I may be only 11 but I remeber playing thiswhen I was like 4 and I was so scared of this level now I hear the amazing chorus to this song and think wow this game was a master piece

This song was really misterious. I loved this temple... I remember when I was 5 years when I reached the "Hand from Above" room I was so afraid that I hided behind the sofa and asked my brother to kill it. xDD But when I reached the Shadow Temple I was no longer afraid. :)

when, in the beginning, you play as young Link, you'll really start wondering what's beyond that entrance of the Forest Temple, only to finally enter it when your adult Link.. It kinda had a original boss there!

Ocarina of Time was a major stepping stone of the Zelda series...great storyline and the gameplay was one of the best on the Nintendo 64... This song was really interesting and mysterious at the same time...

The raw thing here sounds way clearer than the ingame one, guess there just is too much going on. I hate these ghost pictures though, I was like:"Please don't let the picture in this room look right at me" and then, it did. I don't like stuff looking at me, it's just creepy.

i found the hand in twilight princess scarier, in the twilight temple.
There's an OCRemix called "Prayer" that takes this theme and his this nice pure voice singing softly over it, with some soft rain and gentle thunder in the background. Makes this seem even more calming and peaceful.
the Shadow temple kept me from finishing this game. I want to go back to it, but it's been YEARS....
I think the only reason I could tolerate this was because of the fact that this was one of my favorite temples to go through. Yeah it sounds eerie, but them wallmasters.....

I can remember that everytime me and my friend played through the game, each of us had a certain set of temples they would do...I would do the Water Temple, because it scared the shit out of my friend...and she would do this one, because of the shadow hand in one of the rooms...*shudder* I would also do the Sand Temple. After a time it almost became a law ^^ "Oh look, we`re at the fire temple, ok it`s your turn..."
My sister is freaking terrified of those hands (wallmasters). I let her play part of the Forest Temple for me the other day, and she literally SCREAMED when a Wallmaster came down and grabbed Link. The sad part is, she's older than me...

This temple was NIGHTMARE fuel. Shadow temple wasn't as creepy as this. For some reason a FOREST temple(trees and such come to mind) is scarier than the SHADOW temple. The only creepier area in the game is The Well you have to go in before Shadow Temple. Seriously, Forest Temple made me stop a few times. The atmosphere is just too creepy.

This was my favorite temple... I wouln´t say it was eerie. It was rather moody, friggin moody. When I got to the boss I invited my friends just to see the fight with Ganon! That's the true meaning of hype! Masterpiece.

I remember when I was a kid, it wasn't the music that scared me, it was those goddamn Wolfos at the beginning. D: But yeah, me, I think this is easily the best music in OoT ever. Fire Temple music is also kinda good, but that's probably not on your list because it sounds blank in the later versions of OoT. In the earlier versions, it had some kind of chanting in the background. It was taken out because it resembled Muslim chanting.
One of my favorite song in the entire game, and one of my favorite songs in the entire series. It's so eerie, and I really recall a long time ago going in Spirit Ganon's chamber and seeing the blue glow of Link's eyes. It literally made my blood sank for a moment, I was scared.

that fucking key ur refering to is the key in the middle pillar of the entire temple where u play the song to raise/lower the water. when u raise the water drop all the way down and the floor mat will lift up revealing the small chest for that key u need to enter miniboss room (shadow link). You must use the iron boots to walk down there2get key.I for one got fucking stuck figuring out that shit for 2 years. finally bought a guide n gave up playing legit. finding that out pissed me the hell off.

I remember going there with this awesome music and as soon as I walked in I was attacked by wolfs and there were keys I had to get in the first room. It was like a big sign saying "Welcome to the adult Link temples...prepare to die"

actually, i think that there was a glitch on some versions ( i might be dead wrong here) where one key was missing from the game.

To be honest, I'm not at all surprised to see some people dislike this song. It is pretty special, I can't deny that. Have you played the game? You definitely hear it in a different way. When I hear this song, I instantly imagine being deep inside the eerie and ethereal Forest Temple, alone, with puzzles to solve. Without that image, it wouldn't be the same.
