1. Tie between Fusion and Zero Mission. 2. Brinstar Red Soil Area from Super, I just love how dark and atmospheric it is. Although i have to admit, Kraid's Lair is quite unlike any other other musical composition in existence IMHO. 3. Metroidvanias in general and not specifically Metroid games; Spelunky is just too good! 4. I wanna say Light Suit but I have to go with Varia; it's just too iconic.

Metroid Fusion is the closest in story and atmosphere to Alien, the movie Metroid is based off of.
I've only played Super, Fusion, and Zero Mission. Of those three i have to say that Fusion was the best by far. Super was fun but i was honestly disappointed by it. Almost no storyline and the controls are not as fluid as the GBA duo. Running from SA-X was awesome and heart-pounding, and i love how reaching locks and containing different problems in the lab leads you from sector to sector and back again to previous but altered ones. In Super it was more arbitrary, like "what abilities do you have? Just go wherever you can reach until you hit another roadblock." which doesn't give a very satisfying sense of purpose to me. It feels more like i'm just running a long puzzle. Fusion really took that same mechanic and fleshed it into a believable world. There's a reason for each place you go, beyond just "oh now i have this ability so i can open this new area." Just one man's opinion. Fusion was awesome! I don't actually remember ZeroMission as well as i'd like. I want to replay.
Thank you for bringing up Other M because I have to get something off my chest. Other M is one of my favorite Metroid games to date, and all the reasons people hate it are really, really stupid. Allow me to elaborate. For one, I absolutely LOVE how it takes place in between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion (my favorite 2D Metroid games). Also the gameplay is absolutely fantastic. I love how it incorporates both 2D-ish Metroid gameplay (which we hadn't seen since Zero Mission in 2004) along with first person Prime-esque elements. It's incredible how they were able to mesh two completely different play-styles into one game so effortlessly. The controls are responsive and fluid; IMO they could not be more perfect. Secondly, the story. I love love love love LOVE the story in this game! It gives some really neat backstory to Metroid Fusion, and is really engaging and interesting. (Great plot twists too). Sure, the voice acting is sub-par, and PTSD Samus is a little less bad ass than usual, but overall, this is a really great and welcome addition to the Metroid franchise.

The phazon suit is unbeatable. It looks incredibly badass in game. Black with red glows, gotta love going around with my morph ball like that. Metroid Prime 1 had the best suit designs by far.
My Favorite Metroid game it's "Metroid 2" for game boy I liked to visit the planets of the Metroids and their grow evolution. My favorite song it's Super Metroid intro music soo epic.Of course I loved the metroidvania system always. Gravity suit it's my favorite suites perfectly with Samus.
Metroid was amazing. A non-lineal videgame at that time was a blessing. Super Metroid is my favorite, because is too great, but the original Metroid was incredible.

Though Castlevania's soundtrack is superior, I'd stick with Metroid since Super Metroid alone was the classic which stood above others, imo. Truly excellent and it did have rpg elements in it. Watch a speed run of that game here on youtube...! Though the Gravity Suit is decent, I'd have to go with her Zero Suit. She's quite fuckable for a fictional, Zebes visiting chick.

Kraid's Lair is probably the best. minimalistic, yet so godamn good. sets a mood you just can never forget.
PED suit sucked. If I had to pick any suit, it'd be the gravity suit. *cough* SHUT UP ABOUT OTHER M ALREADY. *unconvincing cough*
You know what? Discussion on this is pointless. Everyone has made up their mind and there's no way I can change it. I will agree that the "hell run" was stupid from a story standpoint, but I thought it was awesome from a gameplay standpoint and thus didn't care.
Did Snake defeat Ocelot 5 (6 if you count the Ridley Robot) times before having a panic attack at said encounter? Orders or not, not using vital life-support systems (heat shielding already built into the suit) in a hostile environment simply because she hasn't been expressly told to is beyond cooperative and goes into stupidity. Or was there a reason that she should let herself be hurt by the super-heated air in the volcano?
I think the reason why I was completely fine with Samus being afraid of Ridley was because I remembered a practically identical cutscene in Metal Gear Solid 2 (with Revolver Ocelot in Ridley's place and Snake in Samus's place). If you want more explanation, please ask. I'm fine with Samus following orders, mostly due to the game feeling like an operation that has to be carefully done.
The big one for me is when Ridley causes her to panic and practically have a mental break down. It's hard to mesh that with the woman who stormed multiple Space Pirate bases and pretty much destroyed them all, since said destruction usually involved beating the snot out of him at some point. I also found it odd that the normally independent fighter would refuse to use equipment she already has access to because her CO didn't authorise it, especially when it was basic life-support systems.
The stupid thing is that I replayed both Super Metroid and Other M recently, and I actually like the latter a little more now, though Super Metroid disappointed me a bit in comparison to the Prime Trilogy and I was left getting tired of the series' usual formula...so Other M was a breath of fresh air for me. Also I have failed to spot a single difference between Samus's character in Other M and her character in previous games in the series.
1) Prime, but 2nd favorite is...Other M! 2) Metroid Prime's main theme 3) Metroid, I'd say I like four or five Metroid games more than the only Castlevania I've played (SOTN). 4) Favorite is the Varia Suit just because.

1. It's a hard choice between Zero Mission and Metroid Prime, but I have to go with the latter. The atmosphere, the pacing, the memorable areas and bosses... it's next to perfect. 2. Darkness AKA Dark Samus' theme from Metroid Prime 2. DS is also one of my favorite villains of all time. 3. While Metroidvanias are super fun, Metroid will always be the one that got it right. Favorite suit? Varia Suit, the original. The color scheme is so unique and it just freaking works. My favorite power armor.

And metroid, lol I dispose the term meteoidvainia because it does a disservice to metroid, classifying it with a knockoff of it as if it had made some contribution :/
For me, it's the oddly frowned upon prime 2. I loved the dark atmosphere, and being my first metroid game ( and second game period other then Star Wars battlefront), I got adjusted to the difficulty and now most shooters feel too easy for me lol, including the other prime games and halo's legendary diff (and yes the gunplay is related with SOME weapons,

1: Metroid...Fusion, I think. It was my first Metroid-game, and playing through it really gave me the chills. I loved the dark atmosphere. 2: Wrecked Ship Frigate Orpheon from Metroid Prime. Such a beautiful theme... 3: Metroid. I love the 2D Castlevania-games, but the Metroid Prime-games clinches it.
Well I am not in favor of Mario Kart Wii. And regarding Other M, I really liked the game, but it has the right Metacritic average.
To me both the level design and the plot felt like Halo rejects. Also I feel that Master Chief would fit right into MOM, for what it's worth.
Interesting reply... I wonder what new or younger gamers who hadn't played a Metroid game before Other M thought of it? I liked Samus's character in Other M. I wanted something I didn't recognize, because what I did recognize was too cold. But if I was going to get more of her character, I didn't want it to be like the elevator scenes in Other M. I wanted all or nothing at all. Another polarizing game that I am in favor of. Like Mario Kart Wii.
Repetitive corridors in a space station make sense, and would have been fine, except... the rooms that were different... just weren't different enough to make up for all the repetition you went through to get to them, so yeah. I haven't played Halo either ._.
Personally, I believe there were always subtle warnings in prior Metroid games for a lot of the stuff people had issues with regarding Samus's portayal in MOM. That's the problem though - in Other M, Samus went from having perhaps the most subtle characterization someone could ever have to having everything overblown, which rendered her nigh-on unrecognizable to me.
...I felt there were too many repetitive corridors. It's as if Metroid wanted to turn into Halo or something. Other M probably reminded me more of Halo than Super Metroid even though I've never played Halo.
1. Super Metroid/Fusion/ Zero Mission. Can't decide. 2. Brinstar Overgrowth in Super Metroid, Area 4's underwater depths in Fusion, and Norfair in Zero Mission. 3. I perfer Metroid. Just seems to fit easier with alot of elements I suppose.
Oh. Last thing. I just watched that Extra Credits episode you suggested. So according to that, Samus WASN'T a black slate. Sorry if I talked your ear off. Later
Watch the video I mentioned. Never talking doesn't make a character a blank slate. A lot can be inferred by her actions in those other games.
As for Samus character though, I think that was the thing. I played every Metroid game except Hunters, and I think there was pinball I didn't play, but, the closest Samus ever came to talking was in Fusion. Samus never really showed her personality before. You just picked up the game and played it. If you have a character that never talks, and suddenly they start talking, it probably won't meet a lot of people's expectations. It made her very human, but too soft for a lot of people I heard.
That turning the remote was so jarring it made Missile use almost impossible, but I think there was a slight slomo effect to help. You surely figured that I think the worst part of the game was the gameplay, but I also didn't like how every room felt like an arena. They were all so square-ish, open and organized. And turning the wii mote by accident was the worst part of the gameplay. The special moves made me happy though.
The gameplay was clunky and I did not play the game for very long because of how bad the control scheme was. Turning the wii remote at the television was always so jarring, especially when it happened accidentally. There's no such thing as "too much character." What I hated about it was the character they decided Samus was. They applied a personality that didn't fit the things we've already known about her for 20 years. Just watch the Extra Credits episode : Learning from Other M.
Some people I heard didn't like the story because it gave Samus "too much character". Were you one of those people, or was it something else? We both agree the gameplay was not the best at all, but I did like the projectile dodge move- at least the idea of it, anyway, and I liked those surprise moments where you have to react quickly or die, and I really liked the special moves they let you do. Did you? I loved the story though. Thought it should be a movie.
The story worked as hard as it could to destroy the Samus character. Not really what I would call the "best" story. Also, the gameplay was horrendous. Absolutely terrible.
Was Metroid Other M disappointing? I don't think it had the best OVERALL gameplay at all, but it had the best story, and the best cutscenes ever, and some crazy moves that REALLY made me smile, even though the game wasn't the best one at all.

1. I hesistate between Super Metroid, which was the closest ever to the Metroid feel, and which brought pretty much all the items the other metroids used : Power Bomb, Super Missile, Speed Booster, X-ray visor, Grapple Beam, Plasma Beam, Charge Beam, Space Jump, Gravity Suit. and Metroid Prime. The 3D made the fights more intense than just shooting your huge beam at the ennemies in front of you. 2. I'll go with Phendrana Drift. Peaceful music. 3.Metroid of course 4.Phazon suit. It's badass

1. I've only played Other M and Prime, and out of both of those games I'd say Other M. I just had so much more fun in that game, and the scanning in Prime just became too much for my OCD heart to take. lol 2. My favorite music would be Metal Ridley's theme. Kenji Yamamoto is an amazing composer. His music for Metroid is so good. That's one bad thing about Other M, he wasn't involved in it. :'( 3. I haven't played any Metroidvania games, so my default choice is Metroid.

1. Super metroid. Simply the best platformer ever. 2. Red soil (red brinstar). Although honestly, the entire SM ost is brilliant. I could name Lower Norfair theme as a close 2nd. Or Maridia theme (swampy caverns). 3. I enjoyed both SotNesque Castlevania games and Metroid series, but I don't think you can compare them, they are a bit too different. 4. Varia suit as it looks in SM.
3. Hm. Thats a good question, but while Metroidvanias do incorporate the style of gameplay that was introduced by Metroid, I never really compared them entirely just because of that similarity. Upon comparison though, it seems that Metroid in my opinion does seem to fit alot better in that category, though that could be because it was designed to play in that certain view, other metroidvania games however do a good job of keeping it fun aswell 4. I am stuck between the Light and Gravity suit.
1. All of them to be a bit honest. I have dealt with this question repeately in my past experiances, and I find myself mostly asking it when I finish another run on a metroid game. The answer that usually comes up for me is, " All of them are good." 2. My favorite music? Hm... I am not sure if I have an overall favorite but one that rasied my curiosity into the series more has to be the remix of Norfair in Metroid Zero Mission. It was so haunting and atmospheric, I had to find out more.
The Fusion Suit is my favorite because of its less mechanical appearance over the other ones.

I liked the light suit because it had the biggest change from her regular suit and it made her look faster and slimmer. Like a chrome ninja.
1) Like almost everyone else, I have to say Super Metroid. It's one of the best-paced games of all time, and stands as one of Nintendo's greatest releases of all time. 2) Dark Samus' Theme. Any version of it. A very badass theme for a very badass character. 3) Personally, I would include Metroid in the Metroidvania subgenre. But if I have to single out Metroid from the rest of the genre it helped create, I would choose Metroid. 4) I love the badass colour-scheme of the Phazon Suit. :d

1) Super Metroid-Not only my favorite Metroid game but probably my favorite game period. It is the definition of a perfect game in my opinion. 2)There are tons of amazing tunes in Super Metriod, but I'll go with Crateria's surface. 3)Metroid by far. I love Meroidvania games but they don't quite equal the original's atmosphere and design. I actually prefer Castlevania IV to Symphony. 4)Fusion Suit I guess. Looks the sleekest (aside from Zero Suit of course).
This one make for a good landmark. I love all the music these guys make, with my personal favorite being Phendrana Drifts. But my favorite overall is also a request. Cave Story: White Keep up the good work, can't wait to see 1000.
1. Metroid Prime. Unfortunately, I didn't get to play neither the original Metroid or Super Metroid, but Prime was one of my deepest gaming experiences. 2.I like the Phendrana Drifts theme from Prime. It's a catchy tune, with a mysterious touch to it. 3.I definitely prefer Metroid. It has more puzzles and more exciting boss fights! 4.The Fusion Suit. Samus looks like a Zora when wearing it.
Metroid series have similar feel as Diablo series. While Metroid is not as dark as Diablo, they are both similar in that they are both atmospheric music to give the feel of emptiness and aloneness of the game.

1.Mine is the original Metroid or the remake on the GBA. Fusion comes in second. 2.Kraid's lair from the original or the Brinstar theme from the original too. 3.Metroid but I do love Castlevania especally Circle of the Moon. 4. The fusion suit as it signaled Samus would b very diffrent in the series timeline now.

1. As i entered the Metroid franchise on Metroid Prime, i have to say that game has a special place in my heart. 2. That is a tough pick. I'm gonna go with Metroid Prime Core from the first Prime game. Honestly i'm surprised not many people like this one, because it has a cool rhythm to it and it starts off with the Title Theme and keeps it as it's own core. I just love this track. 3. Haven't played Metroidvania. 4. Phazon Suit. It was just awesome the first time i got it. Also, Dark Suit sucks.

1. Metroid Fusion, it was the very first one I played and I will never forget the fear and dread I faced trying to evade the SA-X. It took me two months when I got it back in 4th grade to pick it up again and brave the Sector 2 part. The chilling atmosphere will forever hold a place in my heart. 2. Thardus from Prime. That was an awesome way to convey a tough fight. 3. Never played any Castlevania games so Metroid. >_> 4. Gravity suit. You knew when you got it, shit was going down.
1. Metroid Prime, it totally changed how I looked at games, first person shooters and virtual environments. One of the greatest games ever made. 2. The Super Metroid theme. Mysterious and gripping, it seems to best captivate some of the greatest things in Metroid. 3. The Metroid series, although it's much closer to me than I realized, it's a tough decision.
Awwww Zero Suit :C I really like the Phazon Suit, though.
1. Either Metroid 2, which was my first Metroid game and still gives me nightmares, or the 1st Prime, which I tohught had the most interesting exploration. 2. Metroid Prime menu screen. There's just something about it that's so sci-fi and exciting. 3. I think I prefer Metroidvania games because I have gotten more fun out of them, but that's not to say that the Metroid games are not awesome. They are so awesome. 4. Varia Suit all the way.

Oh! I forgot the questions! 1.) Prime 1 without a doubt. Of course, I could be swayed...I've never actually played Super Metroid(only Metroid I haven't played). If I could play that, then I might have a change of heart. 2.) Tie, Kraid's Lair Metroid, Maridia Super Metroid, Metroid prime series theme(2 did it the best). They're all so good! 3.) Metroid. There's a reason it's named after Metroid. 4.) You forgot Power but like it matters since it's Varia except without shoulders. Fusion.

Gotta love the original! But my favorite music is Red Soil Brinstar from Super Metroid. It represents the classic authentic feel of Metroid for me. Favorite suit? Gotta be Varia, once again <3 the classic!
1. Super metroid hands down. It was the first game I played that had the ominous atmosphere and it stuck with me. Made me believe that the only way you can make a game scary or make it a thriller is all in the atmosphere. 2. Brinstar Red Soil - This is the song that made the game for me. Just so ominous and chilling. 3. This is a very hard choice for me. Since they are all so good in their own right, But I am going to have to go with Metroid. 4. Fusion Suit.
Metroid prime followed by super metroid. I really love all of the music from the entire prime trilogy so it's hard to chose which is my fav. PED suit influenced Samus the most and played a part in her struggle through an entire game, so I like it best but on an aesthetic level, Varia definitely.
1. Metroid Prime. Super Metroid was just as good, but I enjoyed Prime a bit more. 2. Hmm... so many good themes! My fave is probably Magmoor Caverns from Metroid Prime. I'm surprised you went with Kraid's Lair from the original, since Metroid Prime was one of the first titles to appear on this list. 3. I prefer Castlevania games. They have actual dialogue, and they are difficult at times, which the later Metroid games really aren't. 4. I always liked the Phazon Suit from Metroid Prime.

1. I'd say either Super Metroid, or oddly enough, Metroid Fusion. Super Metroid is totally kickass, but there was something about Fusion that always attracted me, even when playing the Primes. 2. Hard to say at this point. There's too much to pick from. 3. Again, a tough choice for me. I really enjoy both styles of games. 4. Light/Phazon. They're both awesome.

1. It's a tough competition between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion, but I'd say Super Metroid. Prime 3 gets an honorable mention. 2. Brinstar Green - Super Metroid by FAR. 3. I'd say I prefer Castlevania, but my favorite games in this series are the earlier, linear ones. Therefore, Metroid. 4. The P.E.D. Suit is my favorite, though I absolutely dig the Dark and Phazon Suits as well. I have a thing for black. =p
The music of this series freaks me out.... I haven't played any of it yet, unfortunately, but I think I should at some point.
My favorite is Metroid Prime followed closely by Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion. I didn't play Zero Mission or Return of Samus though.

1. Super Metroid, as a kid growing up in the 90's Super Metroid really gave that atmosphere. I never truly appreciated the music back then until I got older and really payed attention to it. I'm up for new Metroid games but Other M was a disappointment. 2. It's a difficult choice between Swampy Caverns of Maridia in Super Metroid or Kraid's Lair in Metroid. 3. Metroid. 4. Varia suit, it has the sort of Vanilla feel to it. (By which I mean the original)

1. My favorite is probably Fusion; first game that literally sent chills up my spine after every new twist. Also the first shooter where I had to use discretion and be stealthy (avoiding the SA-X). Landmark for my video gaming experience. 2. Ridley's boss theme. So many excellent variations, but they all get your blood pumping, because you know shit's about to get real. 3. Not sure what you meant...but the only Metroid I won't play is Other M. 4. Varia Suit. Nothing beats the original.

And its the same for me. super metroid is a BEASt of a game. And Kraid's lair from original Metroid is spooky good.

DAH DAH DAH DAH, DAH DAH DAH DAH, DAH DAH DAAH DAAH, DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. =P As for actual music, it would have to be the Escape theme, particularly from Prime 2. 3. I prefer Metroid, but Metroidvania is brilliant as well. 4. Gravity Suit, hands down. On a side note, I really enjoyed Other M. I can see why others don't, though.

1 Metroid Prime 2 Phendrana Drifts is just epic 3 I can't really decide, the are different Genres and i love them both so much 4 Phazon Suit by far, the aura and coloration are really nice

My favorite suit would probably be the gravity suit, but only in Metroid Zero Mission. You go through the entire Space Pirate mother ship feeling totally powerless until you unlock the sheer awesome of the gravity suit and all of the powerups it encompasses. At the end of the game, you feel like a total unbeatable badass.
