Awesome theme from a very awesome game. Still don't understand why this plays in an area on the map titled "Tal Tal Mountain Range" instead of actually playing in Tal Tal Heights, which just plays the overworld theme, though.
I mean, I always thought of this as the Mountain song. It's definitely suited for that area of the game. It would not fit the actual Tal Tal Heights area.
My favorite 2D Zelda game to date. I've always preferred the 2D games to the 3D ones, with the exception of Wind Waker. Given, I have never played Majora's Mask. But there's just some... charm, I guess, about the 2D Zelda games that really makes it for me... It's hard to explain.
+Moop Bread Looking back now I can say with confidence that Link's Awakening is in fact my favorite Zelda game. I'm currently in the middle of Oracle of Ages and it's definitely up there with my favorite Zelda games.
My fave 3D Zelda game is majoras mask people say it's overrated but it's really so good

one of most memorable tracks in this game. great Zelda game, despite the monochrome graphics. I couldn't get through Metroid 2 cause everything looked the same.

Yeah, just as you entered the transition between screens, you'd pressed Select and bring up the map. Then you'd then teleport to the same position on the next screen, allowing you to clip through walls and stuff.
I did, didn't you just pause as you were changing screens and you would appear on the next one but at the spot your were leaving on?
Actually I did better - I always played my good ol' Game Boy with head phones :D So much better ambience ! xD

@gpolhemus glad to know im not the only one who did that. people always gave me funny looks when i did, but i always thought you wouldnt be so skeptical if you only knew the joy of this game and its music. also did that alot with the incomplete ballad of the windfish.
soooo many great memories of this game. remains one of my favorite games ever to this day.
This was my first Zelda. After playing almost all the others, I discovered after the fact that it had been one of the absolute best. If not THE best.
Its a massive shame they didn't use this magical theme in the Oracle games. At least we still have Tarm Ruins!

I was born late enough to miss the NES era, but fortunately I was just in time for the "Game Boy on long car trips" era. For some reason, the sound got on my family's nerves, and I didn't have headphones, so I had to turn the volume down. But I would always hold the speaker up to my ear just to hear this music. Awesome music, awesome game.
@RedMage360 I don't know if he's supposed to look Mexican, but I'm pretty sure Tarin WAS based on Mario. There's also a Luigi look-alike in the game. Not to mention Peach, Goomba, Chain Chomp, Yoshi, Shy Guy... the list goes on.

@XmasterlinkxX I KNOW!!! The Brawl remix was so lame because Tal Tal Heights was like barely an 1/8th of the whole tune... absolutely disappointing...
@RedMage360 No it is not just you, in fact, he looks a lot like Mario in the game as well. He gets turned into a raccoon after eating this mushroom but when you change him back he claims he was dreaming the whole thing.
I don't see one of these yet, so 4 people got stuck in Turtle Rock.

I loved this game so much! Was the second zelda i played (after oot) Thought it was a huge chalenge and a lot of fun (especially dungeon 7, i'll never forget the moment i bashed that last pillar!!) Anyone ever played the color dungeon?
@RedMage360 There is many things in this game that remind you of mario like the dog Bowwow it looks like a chain chomp. and ofcours you got some gomba like creatures Link can kill in the same way as mario by jumping on them not to speak of the fish in the waters but then again Shigeru Miyamoto have his legasy with Mario and zelda so it might give some clue about why even a frog loking like Wart from SMB 2 is in Links awakening ;D
2nd best Zelda, after Link to the Past, and before Ocarina of Time. Yes, BEFORE Ocarina of Time.

aw man, i remember back in the day, id just go to the Tal Tal Mountains and mess around so i could hear the awesome tune. i think i have the original midi somewhere, sounds much closer to the original tune coming from the gameboy speaker...

Back in the fourth grade I played this game for the very first time on the Game Boy Color when it was remade/ported along with a friend. Since I knew Zelda games ery well and how they played at the time we would take turns playing with me taking the game home to play and him taking the game home and soemtimes we'd play it in the boys' bathroom or on the bus during a field trip. The dungeons are pretty fun and the shopkeeper that kills you when you stole was hilarious!

Same here. Of all the tracks they've remixed for Zelda over the years, this should be one of them, especially considering the crappy final boss music in TP, good as the rest was.
