well done, well done. this is one of the greatest sounds in gaming of all time.
My absolute favorite part of the soundtrack. I agree with Supra, this is often the music I think of when I think of this game, even with the excellent actual main theme music.
Epic chills whenever this song pops up in Mass Effect 3. The nostalgia is just immense.
i know everyones gonna hate me for saying it, but I loved mass effect 3. including the ending. in fact... i loved the ending! but only the control ending specifically (in the extended version). the others were kinda meh, but fortunately i played the control ending first (extended edition). and while i understand why people might be upset about the original ending, i dont think the game deserves the level of hatred it recieves in its current form. i suppose not having been through all that, maybe i have a more objective opinion. or maybe i just have a different opinion. either way i really liked every bit of mass effect 3. that being said i liked me1 even more. and me2 not so much. all in all though, i consider the trilogy as a whole to be my top favorite game of all time. and i still play ME3 multiplayer. which i also love (ever since they fixed the servers). i also love this music :)

Nice choice! I experienced this game for the first time a few months ago, and it was a real treat. This song leaves me with goosebumps each time I hear it.

Wow, what a wonderful surprise. I liked this theme in the title screen, sure. But when it showed up towards the end of Mass Effect, you just discovered why everybody was there in the first place, and Vigil shows them.
I've just started my first playthrough of this game/series because I know I have missed something there....I do like it so far but the game mechanics are a bit edgy. But since I do know the sequels have improved this and I want to embrace this whole universe I'm totally into it. Not a great fan of this theme but it's a good opener for the game....starting it and continuing to character creation just draws you right into it and gives you this "oh, I definitely want to spend many hours on this" feeling.

As much as I loved Mass Effect 2 and 3 (the latter being my favourite in the series. Come at me.), I'm always a bit sad whenever I think about the lost opportunities from Mass Effect 1. 2 and 3 had a completely different feel to them, and not just in the gameplay department: The world seemed to evolve from a Star Trek-y, good old fashioned space opera to a hollywood sci fi action blockbuster. Whilst I do genuinely feel ME3 is the better game, I really wish we'd also gotten more of the promise brought in by the first game: More "explore where humanity doesn't dare venture, with a sense of both wanderment and horror" than "Badass spaceman shoots the aliens with his buddies and we're given the feels"
Agree, ME 1 has the best, deepest plot of them all, plus the feeling of venturing into dark space, facing the unknown. ME 2 and 3 both focus on the action and pew pew aliens. Overall I think ME 2 is the best game, but neither 2 or 3 have that "feeling" from the first game.
To me and many others, this is the game's true main theme. It already triggers some great nostalgia. Listening to this makes me realize how memorable Mass Effect was to me, it really was one of my generation-defining series. Even if Mass Effect 2 was an overall improved sequel, the first game is still my personal favorite, probably because it all felt new and almost overwhelming, making for a very immersive experience.
I'd contest the idea that 2 was an "overall improved" sequel to be honest, i've never believed that. It's always a pleasure to see someone say that the first is their favourite, because it's absolutely mine too, it's the reason I got my 360 way back when :)
I JUST finished 3 and even hearing about all the crap the ending had, it's still a damn good game. All that fanfare over 1% of the game caused me to think it wasn't worth finishing, but now I'm thinking why did I let that 1% tarnish the journey. Hell, just seeing Shepard just sit there staring at the sky with Anderson was a good enough end to me. Also, it was even more of a crazy journey cause I had to transfer my ME1/ME2 Xbox360 save to ME3 on PC!

@IHeart16Bit I really hate the ending, don't get me wrong, it's just for me all i understood about the ending before I finished the game was nothing but disgust and hatred. I let the popular opinion sour my want to see my journey through to the end. Now that I finished it and had time to digest my ENTIRE journey, I am very pleased with my overall experience. Though, knowing the context of the ending (like knowing what actually happens leading up to it) makes me hate the ending worse than before, when I spoiled myself by watching just that when the hoopla happened.
I love this song, and I agree, while the whole series was great I always have fonder memories of 1.
Mass Effect 2 wasn't an improved sequel. The series got worse with each release. ME1 was leagues beyond ME2 and ME2 was such a disappointment for me that I didn't even bother with the third game. If they'd remade ME1 with a more modern engine/graphics it would have been perfect.

I've always adored the first. It felt more like an RPG. A real adventure. There was this new and open feeling about the whole galaxy in ME1. ME2 and 3, while no means bad, just never captured the same spark that ME1 had for me.
@dragon5521 I liked that 1 made you really feel like a Sci-Fi hero.
@IHeart16Bit 1 beats the others for the story, 3 beats the others for almost everything else. The flaws of ME2 were too much characters you spend your time recruiting/getting loyal, and the soundtrack is a bit less memorable than 1 & 3. Great game nonetheless with a kickass final mission.
The clunky combat and boring Mako sections keep ME1 from being the best game in the trilogy, though it did have the best writing. ME3 had the most polished combat...and the worst writing. ME2 is the sweet spot: it may have gone a bit too far in the shooter direction, but it's still got more enjoyable battles than ME1, and the script is far more enjoyable than ME3's. Being so character centered imo is a plus: it better plays to Bioware's strengths.
totally with you on ME1, SupraDarky. it's the best. each world feels so vast and alien. there's also a great sense of isolation and creepiness when visiting the empty planets and space stations (and finding the corpses of previous explorers :OO). the levels in ME 2 and 3 feel too small and chopped-up in order to make a bigger focus on cover-based shooting *shudder*.
@Franco Duerme I still adore ME3 even though the ending (when you finally understand the plot) is underwhelming, Because it answered our questions with bad logic. Basically it disregarded its lore. I also understand why that happened, as the main writer of ME1 & ME2 and his team (karpyshyn) went to work on the Star Wars MMO. So the story lost focus and cohesion. From the orignal ME1 team of Karpyshyn, L'Etoile, Laidlaw, Weekes, Kristjanson, only 2 were on ME3. But as i said i adore ME3, even though it has some major problems.
+Plot Twist But ME2 in my opinion has the best character writing of all 3 games (Thane and Garrus take the cake here, their story development is excelent), and as you said, the suicide mission was really good.
