It's so good. The electric guitar and the synths.
The composer (who has an account somewhere here on YouTube) says he was mostly inspired by Pink Floyd for this track, oddly enough. But I can see inspiration from both.
Especially in those expressive synth leads.
Follin also drew inspiration from Pink Floyd and other progressive rock bands such as King Crimson, so it's probably more of a common ancestor.

This isn't just video game music. This is damn good music in it's own right. The changes. The layers. I love it.

To me, the obvious looping and muffled samples, and abrupt note cutoffs make the intro less enjoyable to listen to, compared to other non-game music. That could've been avoided has it been not limited by SNES SPC.
Hmmm... well there I think it's just a matter of personal taste. But I think OP has a point - this song is definitively structured like a "real" song, which is probably what makes it so special to many people's eyes... or ears, whatever :P But looking back, it's kinda true that the samples makes the piece seem less real

catkaboodle The best version of the film is easily the directors cut and it adds a little more detail than the theatrical version. I watched the directors cut and it was a good but not a great movie. So give it a chance
You guys are crazy... The movie Waterworld was badass. Cheesy as all hell, sure, but good and really engaging for the intended audience which I'd say is kids...

The C64 port of Double Dragon from Melbourne House has my favorite game music of all-time in spite of the game being the worst I've ever played.
CD-i version of Tetris is one of them that have so many excellent soundtracks too.
I like how Ocean were known almost exclusively for producing complete shovelware but their music was consistently stunning.

gatemansg1 Solstice was critically acclaimed when it came out, Plok is said to be good (I don’t like it but ehhhhh), and Silver Surfer is alright. I don’t think the games he did music for were necessarily shovelware but they were clearly too good for the games lol

+TheKaBlammer I would say the best is the addams family platformers followed by the amiga version of robocop 3...and the brief but strangely fruitful relationship with Team 17 for the original Worms and the Alien Breed 3D series (the killing grounds going above and beyond what an amiga had any right to produce!). But it was certainly clear that the heyday of speccy, c64 and amstrad film licenses that turned out for the most part to be really enjoyable was long gone

JP soundtrack is dope af. It's just this music is meant for calm oceans, while JP is dinosaur infested jungle/mountain atmosphere. Different inspiration, both great soundtracks.

This music is extremely nuanced and sophisticated. It has a distinct aquatic feel and also an emotionalism to it as well. The sound speaks of gigantic vistas of endless water beyond comprehension. Really this piece is far ahead of its time.

I wrote all of the music, Jonathan wrote part of the music driver. The unused track you have listed was one I wrote that was unused for another game, however Keith Tinman wrote most of The Flintstones music.

Well, some VGMs are released on CD soundtracks and iTunes and whatnot. So I'm sure they could do it without to much an issue. I'm sure if they notify the composers and companies ahead of time it would be no problem. But I don't know how radios work with/around "legal issues".
As I listen to this; I'm drinking a beer and I feel amazingly mellow and calm right now. For a crappy game it has a kick ass soundtrack!!

I think I saw a game at an arcadey place where you get on a jet ski and simulate actually using a jet ski, it looked like the cover of this i think.
