I absolutely love Metroid Prime. My favorite Metroid game that I've played actually. The music created an excellent atmosphere, and is very entertaining to listen to in the background while I'm doing something else. Personally I prefer the basic Phendrana Drifts theme to this one, but this is still incredible, as was every track from this game.

@TheMostBleedingHeart I don't get how people say Pokemon is repetitive when it incorporates new graphical styles, gameplay mechanics, characters (humans and Pokemon), plots, and settings every game. Sure, it maintains a similar gameplay style to its predecessors, but it's no more repetitive in this fashion than most RPG games or sequels within a series. If you take any games of different generations, even ones with only a one generation difference, and compare the gameplay, there's hardly any repetition in them. I've found each generation has massive differences in the game experience, and while each game has mostly retained its appeal and resisted the "aged badly" effect, each generation has had major improvements on the previous. ...Given, Diamond and Pearl kind of sucked, but Platinum fixed all of the major issues with that and is honestly a phenomenal game. I do really want to hear your opinion, though. What makes it too repetitive? I've always found that it maintains the core gameplay and functional environment to showcase it very well while changing the game enough to create fresh experiences and major differentiation. ...Also, in anticipation of a possible "same thing every time catch Pokemon battle gyms" argument, there are a ridiculous amount of spin-offs that are completely different from that kind of gameplay (Ranger, Conquest, Mystery Dungeon, Rumble, etc). If you're looking for a different approach to the Pokemon series, you could always try those. In my opinion, the main series is the MAIN series for a reason, and should maintain the Pokemon series-style gameplay while the spin-off games should have the change in style that some people ask for.
Did you even read my comment??? None of the spin off games are like that at all. If someone complained about Metroid for being a robo suit lady who explores planets and fights aliens and stuff, that'd be the exact same thing. Games in a series should share a common theme, and often common gameplay. Spin-offs and side series are for changing those. Someone didn't hit read more.

Metroid Prime, one of the best games of all time. What about this game? This game is a masterpiece, it is a major monument of gaming. This is not really a "FPS" as another, it is a great mixed with exploration and action (with a little bit platforms!) Adventure. A planet to discover, boss worthy of the name defeat, powers and objects to go back. Worked very graphics, an almost perfect gameplay, superb music, a mysterious and interesting storyline and a well balanced difficulty. I really recommend this gaming gem is a real treat. Metroid Prime: 20/20 richly deserved that reflects the greatness of this game.

While I personally prefer Prime, and IMO I think Prime and Super are on near equal levels of brilliance, I can definitely see why a lot of people think Super is better. I think Super has the better atmosphere and gameplay, I just love Prime's environments and especially the scan visor. One of my favourites things in any video game. Wonder if we'll ever see another Metroid game as good as these two. Not saying the others (except for... you know what) are bad, but they aren't as strong as Super or Prime.
IDK, out of the 3 Primes, I think the third had the best gameplay, with the second one coming close. And in ambience, the first and second are on the same level.

It's worth pointing out that Super Metroid was extremely unpopular when it came out. Even with the cartridge shortages, people could buy it at discount. Metroid Prime was popular immediately.

I bought all three at GameStop for $70. IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT! You should check online to see if there is a GameStop around your area that has the Trilogy in stock after saving up.
Personally, my favorite is Echoes because the environments were done so well and it did most of the things Prime did better. That's just little ol' me though.
I liked this song even before I played the game, so I didn't have bias back then. Just listen more. Listen beyond the sexy beat. Do you hear the quiet whistles, choir, and piano that compliment the beat so well and give it a sense of mystery and beauty? I sure do. Just listen to it more. You also can't help but dance to that beat.
I haven't played this game yet, but I'm really looking forward to it.

Super Metroid is arguably the better game because it was a benchmark for ALL Metroid games after it, 2D or 3D, but the first Metroid Prime did an absolutely fantastic job of immersing you into the world of Metroid in ways that were completely unheard of up to this point.

Now, I don't recall if this is the original version of the music for that zone or if this is a remix, but I distinctly remember enjoying the music while I was playing. True we all have varying opinions. However, I would argue that some games are better then others. For example, Prime is a better game then say, QWOP. If you think QWOP is better I will have to punch you in the baby maker.
Loved the sense of discovery this track brought with it, when the machines buried in Phendrana began to come alive as you explored the area.

Super Metroid aged like a fine wine. It is better then Prime. Link to the Past = best zelda game. 3d does not automatically = a good game. Without the classics the later games such as prime and Oot would be lacking and possibly never even exist. Know your roots boiiiii

The feeling part is understandable since one is 2d and the other 3d. It's like comparing apples to oranges.They're both fruit but are distinct. I never said I disliked Prime because I don't, it's quite good and I enjoyed playing it. However, since I grew up playing nintendo/SNES/Genesis etc I will always be partial to 2d scrollers especially Super Metroid. The game was far ahead of its time and perfectly satiates my game itch and delivers in 2-4 hours complete playthrough. Just perfect.

If only owning a station was affordable. If I had the expenses I have contemplated it a lot. I would love to give it a try. Though it probably takes a lot of knowledge I'm lacking but its a nice thought to possibly bring some quality to the media, since the quality is usually covered with adverts and pop culture.
Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, the 4 Ratchet and Clank games, the Jak trilogy, God of War 1 and 2, Gran Turismo 3 and 4. GTFO. FPS on consoles are overrated anyways. Halo, Call of Booty, and Medal of Honor are all trash next to real shooters (specifically on the PC). And Metroid Prime is more of a first person adventure game and platformer anyways.

Just felt like commenting... I don't necessarily have a problem with Samus having spoken dialogue, but in Other M I essentially see a character who previously emoted exclusively via facial expressions and body language suddenly downplay those elements in favor of redundant, pompous soliloquy. Makes it difficult for me to accept that it's supposedly the same person and makes Samus extremely dull there.
As much as I disagree with the Other M haters, it definitely doesn't stand a chance against this, Super Metroid, or Echoes.

what i loved about this game, was the exploration, i hated the back tracking but now that i think about it, it makes you explore so much more. Corruption lacked the exploration part, the places were just small rooms, i love all 3 games but the first was always the best.

I was highly suspect when they said they were making Metroid an FPS. I bought this game day 1 on the gamecube and it blew my fucking mind. Every aspect about it, the music, the graphics, the gameplay, everything was top notch. This is the kind of game you'll tell your kids about when they ask you for Call of Duty 39. "In my day things were different! They were better!!"

The gameplay was decent and the story was tolerable, but the controls went way beyond clunky, and watching Samus transform from the badass we all know her as to the sniveling little whiner she was portrayed to be was a little painful. Other than that I wholeheartedly agree that the GC and Wii have some amazing games that get completely ignored. Sad...
@atza20 Well, the same thing is happening for the Wii. They all think that the Wii is a stupid system with crappy games. They just havent found the good ones, like Okami, Muramasa, Monster Hunter, Metroid things (which Other M was really good btw, along with the Primes which were amazing), etc. The GC really was a good system with awesome games, but again, no one ever heards of them.

metroid prime is such a a badass game
@austinthebookworm5 I can't believe it's been over a year since my last playthrough of this game (which was my 2nd playthrough and was meant to fuel a hype train for Other M). That being said, Prime definitely plays FAR more like a Zelda game than any shooter, which is the main reason why most of us don't consider it to be an FPS. Fun fact: Miyamoto originally intended Ocarina of Time to be entirely in first-person, but that was rejected and obviously ended up in Metroid Prime instead.

@GameMasterSoko I did it like 5 times on the gamecube including a 100% items and 100% scan. I did it again on Metroid Prime Trilogy and I'm redoing it on Hypermode. I'll never get bored of it

@Aphradonis Because they're not as great as Metroid Prime era. It feels like they just copy off of eachother (Bayonetta). A bunch of shooter games competing to get your attention (Halo/COD). I mean yes some are good such as Left 4 Dead but that's practically the only game I play and Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix. Other games I get bored of right away because I don't find any creativity just the same thing over and over :/

@XxGonixXFAN Hitting nails on the head. Metroid Prime is made by a studio that captured the soul of retro videogames and translated it into a modern game. For me, Metroid Prime is the 2002 version of Super Nintendo games I played and loved in the 90's.
i first played this game thankgiving hoilday 02! played it in 03 again then 04 mp2 and so forth till this thanksgiving with other m also :)
I remember when my brother told me to buy this game and the day I played it I thanked my brother so much. This is such a great game, awesome music graphics, it has everything! I still play this sometime, just to get away from the games of the 20th century. Not saying they're bad but something about Metroid Prime just takes me away. Such an awesome game, why can't they make games like this?

@geno1082 Now on Gamecube, I liked Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Tales of Symphonia (not exclusive, so it maybe doesn't count), Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, Pikmin, Paper Mario 2, and multiplayer focused games like Custom Robo, Smash Bros. Melee, F-Zero GX, and Mario Strikers and these are all games I'd consider to be top quality. I just had more I liked on Gamecube, I guess =P
@geno1082 I guess it all comes down to how few games in general the N64 had. As someone who doesn't like the Legend of Zelda series, I can only genuinely say I liked StarFox 64, Banjo Kazooie, Mario 64, Paper Mario and a few multiplayer experiences like Mario Kart, Mario Party and Goldeneye. And not all of those were top tier games either.
@RayLedgend. What makes the Cube much better than the 64? There are some great games on the Gamecube, but none really give me that same feeling like when I play the 64. A Link to the Past and SuperMario RPG are my top two favorite games, but the 64 still reigns supreme. Whatever your opinion, it's all good.
@Tezcatlepocatl The way I see it is that N64 may have had some of the best games, but it had very few of them. Not a lot of developers worked with Nintendo in the N64 days, since Sony had over a year of a head start in the market, and used discs. The result was a few great games, and a lot of bad ones, and not a lot of in betweens. 6, maybe 7 of my top 20 games of all time were on Gamecube. I'd be generous to fit more than 2 N64 on the list. That's just my opinion, though =P
@RayLedgend I respect your opinion, but although they were both good, there is NO WAY the Gamecube era of Nintendo games was better than the N64 era, no matter how you look at it. (The N64 could have used some Metroid games, though...) Judging by Nintendo's current approach of pumping out game after game full of old-fashioned, hardcore goodness, I'd say Wii2 is going to be amazing :D
@Tezcatlepocatl Super Mario Galaxy 2 was an expansion, Nintendo was not able to put all their ideas in one game, that's why they released a second "Main-Mario-Game" for the first time...
As far as I'm concerned, it's like this. NES: Good. SNES: Great. N64: Good (it's all opinions, people =P). Gamecube: Great. Wii: Good. Hopefully we're heading for another "best of the best" with Wii2.

It was good, but too much like the original... They NEED to get Retro Studios back and make a new FPA Metroid game...

I loved the environment in phendrana. Top it off with the music before the boss, then the remix after the boss and it made for an epic experience. I can recall a few times letting my gamecube on with the game running in that location just to lisen to the music haha.

@ExileTwilight You are a casual. Sure, the boost gurdian is difficult, really difficult, but I did beat it without dying on my second play through, which was in hard mode.

If it's in regard to my original comment, I've played the original prime trilogy on the hardest difficulty (hard, hard and hypermode), and in my honest opinion Echoes is more challenging in general which to me is a good thing.

@xxDarkXOmegaxDragonX Well it's tied for seventh with eight other titles with a score of 97. And I suppose you only mean sales for it's opening week, as Prime only sold 2.8-3 million lifetime, a respectable and great achievement, but not putting it at all close to a top twenty-five in sales 5 or even 10 years ago, much less now. It's not underrated, but it is a tad underplayed in today's gaming society.

Just up a great used copy of Trilogy, so I can play them all again, in a better state than ever before. I was a little sad I missed Trilogy's limited release window, but now I have a fine copy, and it didn't set my wallet too far back, comparatively.

This game fires me up everytime I play it, I somewhat "immerse" at Tallon IV universe and just can't get out of it so easily........ Beautiful art, great story, incredible OST and an astonishing atmosphere. One of the best games I ever played! ^^ By the way, is there an upload for the "data-menu" music? If so, what number?/

The game looks gorgeous in 480p (both GCN primes support progressive scan) and I've read that the cube games look better than the wii trilogy port, so fire up those original discs on your wii or a firstgen progressive-scan compatible Cube with the $60 component cables and experience it!!!

GOD, I can't seem to express a way to define what I felt when I played this game for the first time...I remember thinking, 'wow, this looks boring...' when I crashed in Tallon and rambled around a bit, but when I opened the first automatic door and the beautiful and PEREFCT 3d atmosphere appeared along with the beautiful and organic music, I felt the same when I played my first SNES game...that MAGIC!
One of the greatest game to ever grace the Nintendo libraries!!!! I demand someone makes a time machine so I can go back 8 years and re-experience this game again brand new!

This tune has all the elements of a metroid soundtrack...that high pitch weird sci fi thing and awesome beat. I also got trilogy on wii just the other day....and even the first level (tutorial) is intense :S haha this game is gonna be fun

i like this track, cause it feels it fits in a ice cave kind of enviroment. in many games it feels like they just put random tracks in random locations. like you walk in a desert, and there's some upbeat techno tune, or such. that should be for bossbattles :) In aion, there's like this music when you walk around, and it sounds more like battle music, than the actual battle music in that area...very odd :D
there's just personal opinions. most ppl like it. Even if you dont, doesnt make it overrated. Well to anyone else but you, and the others that dont care much for the track. imo you cant rate music, cause 1 song means different things to everyone. a song being nr1 on some chart, means alot of ppl like it, but that doesnt make it the best song to everyone, there's alot of ppl that will think its pure crap. and its all just personal opinions, and you cant rate that.

I would have to say that this is the 3rd best track of the game, with MetaRidley being in 2nd and True Metroid Prime being in first, but bear in mind that all these songs are quite close to each other in my book ;)

I was quite tired of all the pirate crap in Phendrana... Then I came upon this song, and wanted to continue on my way. Seeing that hunter metroid pop up for the first time was a bit surprising as well. Hard to think that this game came out 8 years ago.

Everyone who thinks this game is hard is talking about the last boss which is hard to even learn how to beat in the first place. My favorite boss fight ever was Meta Ridley, that sh** was bananas.

Sad thing is a bout this game and me... I never got passed the first stage... I could never kill the boss.
I found them easily by looking in my logbook. For example if the artifact of...i dont know...power was said to be "in Phendrana's Tower" then i looked through all the rooms in Phendrana using the map and looked for the name that included "tower". The way to get the info was to scan the statues at the artifact temple. But you're still right...it was a freakin' pain to look for them...
the only problem i had with the game is finding those damn artifacts it drove me insane

Actually, it's been said she is a full fledged human. Here parents were space travelers, and were killed. And that's basically the backstory to most of the events in the Metroid games.

i definatly give the crown to prime one, but the other 2 are both tied for second becuase the second pisses me off becuase of the lame ass ammo thing, and the third pisses me off because i dont agree with the wii's controls (as intuative as they are), i don't like the damn green riicule taking up the center of my screen, and i prefere the metroid series to stick to isolation.

The first prime is still the best, the main ambience got lost in echoes and that light and dark thing sucked a lot out of the exploring of what it all was about in the first place, fortunatly they got that back in corruption...

I'm not judging, I just think that Prime 3, while enjoyable, lost that isolated feeling that made the nes and snes metroids so amazing. Although the story is a bit more understandable, I always found metroid to be about ambiance.
The second one isn't that good IMO, at least compared to the original. (Haven't played 3 yet.) What makes Echoes good though is the ambiance - the whole dark and light worlds, never has video game music meshed so well within the game itself. Not to mention Echoes is actually more challenging than Prime 1... just look at the boost guardian. XD
I find the story of 3 the best.
I loved Prime 1 because it showed me an entirly new way of gaming, I liked 2 because the storyline peiced together perfectly with the eniviorments and enemies... Prime 3 felt like Halo on crack :P In a great way though! XD 1. Prime 3 2. Prime 1 3. Prime 2 My opinion though >_> Don't judge me XP

The Wii one is pretty interesting. The storyline is much more interesting than the second one imo. (Though I haven't played either... I just watch. I fail at FPS games, and prolly at Metroid too. >>)

On my first time encountering this song, I literally had to stay in the room it started in. It was just too damn good, and fit the mood perfectly. I remember sitting there simply thinking, "Woah..."
I like the original version better, but this remix rocks as well. I like how it plays after you get the Gravity Suit, the music gets a powerup as well.

People talking like Metroid Prime is an old game which they played in their "youth", lol, it's kind of new goddamnit.
I played the original metroid prime when I was in fourth grade. I was scared shitless when the space pirates attacked, and didn't want to play it.. lol. But its moments like these, when you overcome that and explore all these fantastics places that make Metroid Prime such an amazing game. Nostalgia ftw +1.

Metroid prime was one of THE best games I have ever played, never mind the soundtrack being good! (which it was)
Power/Wave/Ice/Plasma Troopers. Ice troopers were the easiest because you could just ChargeIce+Missile them, Powers were pretty easy too as one Super took care of them. Wave wasn't that hard because they were always stunned after a charged blast, but they took lhe longest for me to kill. Plasmas were probably the toughest, but the addd damage from the fire when you use the ChargePlasma beam helps a lot. Of course, it's also just fun to knock them in Phazon and laugh.

Metroid Prime three was a slightly (okay, VERY) different theme for enemies, namely warfare. That's why there are so many soldiers, so many ships, and so many space pirates. Oh, and I find the last planet did sort of make evelutionary sense.
I disagree. While there hasn't been any more real violence (or rather, the same violence) consider the timeline in stories: First few games: kill all the Metroids and defeat Mother Brain. Metroid Prime: stop the corruption and destruction of the last home of the Chozo by Space Pirates. MP2: End a War between the two halves of Aether. MP3: Fight a war with the Space Pirates, fight your allies, and prevent galatic corruption, while dealing with your own. From exterminator to Galactic war.

well of course the place doesn't feel uninhabited, the choso were here originally, then the pirates came in and stayed. there has almost always been life(intelligent at that) there.
And I don't pay attention to the scenery of video games that much but the Metroid Prime series was a big exception. I still have this tune stuck in the back of my head.
Because the atmisphere makes it creepy. The only thing you can really make out about the space pirates when fightng them are their glowing eyes. The music makes you feel like some unknown terror could be lurking around any corner.
is not atmispheric, the biolgical enemies dont feel like they are part of a natural ecosystem they feel like they are just enemies there to be killed, and the space pirates appear far too often. the space pirates are samus's one contact with intelligent life, over exposing samus to civilization belittles the organic/ruined technology feel of metroid.

Yeah. I just meant that the chozo level is almost an island in that game. But the hard mode I meant was the reward for beating the game the first time.
I play on the highest difficulty you have at the start of the game. I put up with the game because I figured it had a really long tutorial zone but when i noticed my game clock was at 4 and half hours I realized i was way out of a tutorial zone. That should tell you how boring and easy the game seemed to me.
Have you tried the actual hard mode? The game renamed easy to normal, normal to veteran, and... I can't remember what actual hard mode was. I still think that one chozo level had good atmosphere, though.
is probably one of the most difficult to lose in games in history. It took me till I got 36% thru the game on hard mode to realize the tutorial mode had ended. Seriously hyper mode only costs like 20 energy because you will recover 80 energy from doing kills. Its the easiest metroid prime game. You'd have to be half asleep to ever die in it, yet it deviots its entire atmisphere to feeling 'intense'. how can a game be intense but nearly impossible to lose at.
While the Metroid games have gotten more violent and considerably darker, I find that Metroid Prime 3 still has some of the original explore feeling. Some of the planets were really creative (like that Chozo one) and that abadonned ship. Fusion, I agree with.
when did Metroid all of a sudden become dark and mature. It was no more dark and mature on the super nintendo. Also when did it become violent? Its no more violent than contra was one the super nintendo. I stress the super nintendo because that is when nintendo was first occused of being wussy.
The trouble with New Metroid games (fusion, zero, and prime 3) is they forgot metroid isnt an action game its an adventure game with an emphasis on the feeling of being lost in an alien world. I remember I got 36% thru metroid 3 before realizing i was out of the tutorial level and the game just plain sucks.
Oh, I agree completely. I played the original through just so I could say I beat it (annoying as heck), and I love all the Metroid Prime games. My favourite part is still Meta Ridley in the original Prime.
I am a fan of Metroid: Return of Samus, however I can not stand grinding my health and missles back to full in metroid 1. Metroid 2,3, and prime 1 had the best atmispheres of any metroid game.
I like all MP music, but I prefered the first part of Phendrana.

Word. Sanctuary was the epic Cyberpunk-location, and Elysia was the beautiful Steampunk-esque city. I love them both, though Sanctuary is on a whole different level than anything else.
man this was a fun game. i remember almost beating this game. i just have to kill metroid prime. and hes prety hard but fun in a way. i probly need to get back to it and kill it

In Metroid Prime, I don't think you can single out any one song being the greatest. All of them are fantastic in my opinion. Each one fit the setting so well.

Eh... I liked the normal Phendrana music a bit better, I like my VG Music to be softer. Still a nice tune.
