I'm glad this song is on the list. Looking back, this was one of the very first songs when I started getting a more refined appreciation for soundtrack music as a kid. I would initiate a battle then wait around for 0:56 to come, and I loved that part

If you were a fan of SNES (or GBA) style RPGs, then Golden Sun is right up your alley! One of my best high school gaming experiences. So nostalgic.

Finally on the list! This track made the combats in GS that much better.
I hope we get a 4. :( 3 flopped, but the first two are amazing. I love the universe overall. I still think Isaac should replace one of the Fire Emblem swordsmen in Smash Bros too.
I actually... Well, let's say I liked the games less than everyone else. The game was way too easy (one accidental backtrack = completely overleveled), the statistics were broken (why do a psyenergy attack for 180 points when I have a sword that does 200, and a summon that does 400, both for free), Djinn were really overpowered (on top of hard to organize), and the story was too overwritten. I see how it's a good game, and it could be great if you use only a few Djinn, but I really don't see how it's one of the best RPGs out there. But dem graphics. An' dat battle theme.

This is so Motoi Sakuraba. His style is great and easily recognizable.
What other games did he write music for?
He's done Baten Kaitos (1 and 2), Eternal Sonata, Dark Souls (1 and 2), and tons more that I don't really know much about. He's got a great alt. rock style, but he's pretty good in other genres too. http://sakuraba.snesmusic.org/discography/

This is my absolute favourite JRPG 2-parter ever! I played this when I started high school, and now I've almost finished. :( My god. The nostalgia! Dark Dawn for me was a half-half but I would LOVE 4th one! Please Camelot!

Love it, I agree with you completely. I can never get this damn song out of my head. Felix's theme in TLA just didn't compare, so I always love when I get Isaac back!
This, the Star Ocean series, and Tales of Phantasia are Motoi Sakuraba in his prime. I'm surprised it wasn't already on the list, but nice add either way! Never stop posting.
Man, this really takes me back. I probably played through both games like 7 times already. Definitely one of my Top 5 favorite JRPGs, it's was that good. Too bad Dark Dawn came along and ruined everything, like SupraDarky said. They tried WAY too hard to be like their precessors, and ruined everything in the process.

Definately! The zelda like puzzles blend perfectly with the RPG elements, The first one is about 20/25 hours of gameplay the sequel finishes the story and is about 2, to 3 times as big! We'll have to wait for it, but it'll come to the VC eventually! It's really worth it if you can still apreciate the graphics (they're gorgeous, for a gba game!)

For nintendo, there weren't that many gooood RPGs. But around this time, we were satisfied. Advance War, Golden Sun, Paper Mario. Then Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, & Paper Mario: TTYD. @SupraDarky Agreed. I gotta find the time to replay this in the next year. =) Great upload as always.
Nigga you didn't even mention Skies of Arcadia. Best RPG on the Gamecube.

@Reaper679 Skies of Arcadia was released on Dreamcast first. Then, Skies of Arcadia Legends on GC two years later. So, it's not really a Nintendo's RPG. By the way, it's a fucking good game !

Dark Dawn - The puzzles were neat, but the battles were too easy until the last and secret bosses. I also liked how every djinni was unique in appearence.

Dark Dawn was a decent game, it just couldn't live up to its predecessors: two of the best RPGs ever made.
I wouldn't go that far. It was at best mediocre. It was "WORDS WORDS WORDS" the game, the plot was shitted up, the puzzles were casualized and the music was meh.

@***** That's the thing: the first two Golden Sun games were flawless. The music is timeless and the visuals were unreal, especially for games released in the early years of the GBA. Dark Dawn is inferior by comparison, mainly because those first two games were simply unbeatable. Dark Dawn is mediocre compared to those games, but as a DS RPG that stands on its own, it's pretty decent.

Golden Sun and The Lost Age are fucking amazing. The graphics are the best on the console, the gameplay was superb, the game didn't hold your hand, it was massive and open, had fucking awesome powers, a decent story, perfect music and overall was a masterpiece.
I wasn't aware that there were any console versions. I thought they were handheld exclusives.
@Matt Maberry the advance is a portable console, so you just failed your grammer police exam! ^_^ (And if my English has mistakes, book me i'm dutch :P :D )

I was under the impression that handhelds and consoles were two completely different items. The overarching category is video game "system". Falling under that classification are " home consoles" and "handheld systems". To say "handheld console" is a contradiction in terms. And I do not count the virtual version because it was not designed specifically for a home console.
@Matt Maberry There are home consoles and handheld consoles. The term "system" also works. No contradiction in calling the GBA a "handheld console".

First game I had on the GBA. I remember opening it on Christmas morning and showing how amazing it looked to my mom. We were both blown away. I absolutely loved this game as a kid. Havent played it since then. I think I'm going to do another play through.

This is a battle theme that really stuck with me since I played this game more than 10 years ago (wow...). I remember being amazed by this game's graphics and music quality back then. The battle system was highly impressive, especially the variety of summons. After Golden Sun 3 flopped, you have to wonder if we'll ever see a new entry in this series.
It feels odd knowing that each game has ended on a cliffhanger. I just want the quest I started back in 2001 have a satisfying conclusion.
Yeah, couldn't get through GS3. Man this game was awesome in 2001! Camelot really paid attention to the GBA, unlike too many other "Eh, just port this SNES or Genesis game" shovelware out there.
