Easily my favourite RPG. I never played a RPG as often as I played Golden Sun. The atmosphare, the story, the characters, the surroundings...Everything about this game was so beautiful.
GS 1+2 are one of my most beloved RPGs, I was shocked how dull and badly designed Dark Dawn was. I really wanted to like DD but the game's flaws just didn't made it sit with me well, the only thing I liked about it were the puzzles.

I really like the turn based battle system because if you are fast at navigating the menus its like super fun and not dragging at all, because you can speed up the psynergy/attack animations it fells like DDR : A ⇨ A ⇩⇩⇩A ⇨A A..etc. Oh and summons, summons are epic <3

Dark Dawn was okay, even if it really didn't improve on the original games at all, and had a worse story. The biggest thing I noticed was that it felt very short, almost incomplete, with this huge world map that's almost completely unused.
Dark Dawn was supposed to get a sequel to end the story they introduced in that game, just like how the original Golden Sun is an incomplete game as well. People never mention the original Golden Sun without Golden Sun The Lost Age. If you only look at the original, you would see that that game and Dark Dawn are just as incomplete. Again, they introduce a story, but don't end it. The original had the privilege of a sequel, Dark Dawn didn't.
@asimb0mb Golden Sun was a hell of a lot more complete than Dark Dawn was.

Personally I'm going to distance myself from the Dark Dawn Hate. I thought that it was arguably one of the most beautiful games that was on the DS. While it lacked as much of the plot elements and story that the first two had, it did do well in my opinion to progress the series and show off some of the more interesting things. Unfortunately though the game suffered from enormous amounts of things and fundamentally was very easy both in battle and in puzzles. But that being said it was beautiful and I enjoyed it. It's a shame that it's unlikely there will be a continuation of it.

+Dmitriy Stasishin I''ll agree with you there that DD was beautiful. I think it suffered in that Nintendo wanted to approach 'higher' graphics. One of my favorite aspects from Golden Sun is the sprite animation. Same with the first American Fire Emblems (7&8). Both series upped the graphics for their later entries and I think in both cases it lost some charm to it. Now that i think about it, aside from Fire Emblem, Nintendo has gonna been a bit funky with RPGs. Paper Mario is trying to resurface and Golden Sun is dead. =( C'mon nintendo!
They haven't done a decent traditional paper mario since the thousand year door! I really liked super paper mario, but why did sticker star ditch the partners and etc.? I loved how they still nailed the music in dark dawn btw :D

Nope. Sucks. Watered down gameplay and exploration, numerous points of no return, and fanfiction level story. The drop in quality from the first two games is staggering.

I feel like this series is wasted potential on Nintendo's part, which could really have more RPGs on its consoles. After such a long absence, Golden Sun 3 played it too safe and had mostly no marketing behind it (I still enjoyed my time with it, but it felt soulless). I could really see a major Golden Sun entry on Nintendo's home console, an epic journey with a huge Sakuraba soundtrack.
Totally agree with you. GS is one of my favourites RPG series, I really hope one day they came up with a new game.
+SupraDarky Honestly GSDD is easily the worst JRPG I've ever played. No difficulty, points of no return, inane and worthless plot, butt ugly overworld art, completely forgettable cast, no combat improvements, and overall zero innovation. I had a horrible time with it because GS 1 & 2 remain to this day my favorite JRPGs of all time.

@FinalDragoon The Camelot that worked on Golden Sun is pretty dead. Check the huge gap in releases after GSTLA and now.

+SupraDarky I liked this game alot when if first came out when I was about 11 or so, but after playing it again when I was older, I seriously though I must have been out of my mind. Honestly, the only thing good about Golden Sun 1 and 2 was the soundtrack. Puzzles for the sake of getting in your way and not to be challenging, everywhere is a maze, a battle system that wasn't very interesting or difficult (although nice looking for the GBA), the nonsensical plot and the absolutely abysmal character dialogue. My god the dialogue... How did that mess make it past QA? Does anyone remember Kraden the old man in Golden Sun 2? He was the worst offender. Never played the 3rd game.
+virgil9940 so your pretty much saying golden sun is crap, even though its not by majority of people, honestly its a way better jrpg then most of today aside from xenoblade chronicles and its better than beyond the beyond another Camelot title with one of the worst story told in gaming
+Freddy Martinez Argumentum ad populum. And yes, I am saying it was crap. Not without it's merits, but crap. In Golden Sun 1 you literally have a skill for lifting stuff and then have to go looking for a skill that does the SAME THING, except it only works on rocks. Why? That question can be applied to anything that happens in Golden Sun. A game being better than beyond the beyond isn't a big accomplishment by any means. I'm not here to shit on anyone's childhood or anything, I'm just giving my opinion on the matter as a person who sat through both games twice. Take it as you will.
+SupraDarky the problem with golden sun 3 for me is that it was pretty much a redo of golden sun 1 plotwise and boundary wise. It had less content than 2 despite of the big roster of characters it was nothing as interesting as playing with both the characters of a game you had beaten and the "new" playable cast of GS2. Can't wait for a 4th fame but i don't think we can count on it soon :(
@virgil9940 Because they're simply tools to solve puzzles. And I don't know what skill you refer to that lifts besides the actual skill "lift". If that's your biggest problem with the game then that speaks leagues at to the quality of the game. Don't get me wrong, if you hate it you hate it. I ain't gonna try and convince you to like a game you hate, it's pretty pointless and petty. (alluring alliteration appears)
+MayhemMessiah Catch and Lift. One was for picking crap that was far away or out of reach and the other for picking up rocks. They could have easily been the same. That wasn't my biggest issue with the game, just the one that came to mind first. I don't necessarily hate Golden Sun. I can see what it was trying to be and what it could have been. If you ever play Golden Sun again pay special attention to... everything. You'll see it.
@virgil9940 I play GS pretty much yearly. I know far more about that game than any normal person should. I'm pretty certain I remember the names of the 72 Djinn and their special attacks. I can eyeball the HP of any enemy by sight and tell you with what Djinn to beat his ass to get the panther glitch. So believe me when I say that I know what makes the game tic. The transition from Catch to Lift is pretty deliberate. You get Catch as a gift from your mother and is a pretty worthless psynergy. It's one of the few in the game where you don't ever need it; the best thing you can do with it is get apples. It is more symbolic than anything else.
