I wonder how much of the team behind this is the same as Okami
+ragnaroktomorro Roughly the same if not flat out same team. Direction and writing was done by Hideaki Kamiya and producing was done by Atsushi Inaba. Music composition was also very similar. This song was composed by Rei Kondoh, who also did music for Okami.
I feel like Tables Turn or the Theme song would have been better choices. The fight with jergingha was epic, though. Also, is anyone else getting a Star Wars vibe from this?

@Puddimans I think Rei Kondoh composed some tracks for Fire Emblem Awakening actually. I could be wrong. I remember seeing their name on some of the tracks.
He worked on both Bayonetta games too!
GOTY? No this game diserves more, it is Game of Forever.
This really is an awesome game, and Nintendo should have promoted it more. They let it flop when they could have advertised it to an appreciative audience. Seriously, the Wonderful 101 is the sort of creativity and originality the industry needs, while still having a good budget and the production values that no indie game will ever have. The best of both worlds (plus I despise indie games for various reasons, but I won't get into that now). And Nintendo didn't market it.
It was such a marketing failure. I heard Nintendo didn't even have TV ads for it in the US. It's from the same guys who made Viewtiful Joe! What more do people want? It was well worth every second though.

Ahh... So glad to see this made the list. It's my personal GOTY for 2013, the combat system is so deep when you spend time learning the ins and outs and it's the most fresh and unique game I've played in years. Thank you Platinum Games for being so amazing.
two things. first, do you have the compelte ost? and second: this game had only one major flaw. the enemies kept their damage when you die. :/

The enemies kept their health because the punishment for death is screwing up your score.
@LordRoto i was totally aware of that but i usually don`t play games to get a high score. especially not if they got a story. and why wouldn`t you include in option to disable that "feature"?
the game has a lot of hard unlockables. something that hurts hardcore gamers is a lot more diabolical than something that may phase casual gamers lol

Not only do I think this is the best game of 2013 by a wide margin, but also one of the greatest games ever created. Platinum Games truly has a masterpiece on their hands.
Could you really expect anything less from Platinum Games(formerly Clover Studios) directed by Hideki Kamiya? I haven't beaten God Hand, yet, but the guy in the Gorilla suit and the Power Goblin Rangers were just out of hand(hard to fight a boss when can't stop laughing about how ridiculous the fight is). Viewtiful Joe(series), Ōkami, God Hand, MadWorld, Infinite Space, Bayonetta, Vanquish, Anarchy Reigns, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, The Wonderful 101, and soon Bayonetta 2(I'm sure will be as well) are all highly acclaimed by anyone who's played them. I've heard The Two Best Friends group and Total Biscuit both say that they would buy any game from this company regardless of what it was about just b/c of how great their past games have been.
I want to play this game, but I really do not seeing myself getting a Wii U any time soon. I hope i am not the only one who feels kind of "scared" to get one. I just wish Nintendo did a better job marketing the console because they have done some of the worst advertising I have ever seen for a video game company.
Nintendo have messed up early with the Wii U, I think. In the N64/GC days, it did them wonders being the underdogs of the console race; they were willing to take more risks and, as a result, ended up making some of the finest games ever. From a die-hard Nintendo fan's perspective, I think it is reasonable to be worried lately. (The 3DS will do fine, however. It was the GB/GBA which kept Nintendo afloat back in the day, after all).
I think the best advertising for the Wii U comes from the people who have one. I cannot recommend it enough. It's a fantastic Console.
@YummyBananaFish I know the 3DS will do fine. I own one and I actually think it's the best system on the market right now due to its enormous selection of great games to choose from and the fact that Nintendo didn't screw up the advertising for this system.
@Eric C. I agree. Funny how Nintendo have always known what to do with handhelds. (Does the Virtual Boy count...? Heh.) I don't think I was clear before though: back in the 90s/00s, Nintendo's decline in sales meant they had to 'fall back on' their specific loyal fanbase for support, hence games like Paper Mario, Majora's Mask, Pikmin... innovative stuff. Nowadays in a crisis, they are more likely to rely on the casual market they've established, which is why I'm anticipating less modern classics than ever before, for Wii U.

@Dan Buck Sorry for not being too clear in the first reply :P First of all you should know I have no HDTV, just an old (and wonderful) CRT. The Wii U letterboxes everything (which is fine), and that obviously makes everything much smaller, but in some games/demos text is so tiny that I wonder how it would even be readable on a full-size HDTV! I really have to try hard to read it. I never saw a problem with big text in video games. The only downside is that it takes more room, but in most cases that doesn't even interfere with anything! The concept behind it (the gamepad) is awesome and I can only hope that it will become more common in gaming, and the technical achievement of sending real-time images wirelessly so flawlessly is unbelievably awesome. But, then you get to software. It blew my mind how the Wii U's menu is actually less useful than the 3DS's. Specifically, you can't check a game's manual without opening it (which takes a shitton of time). You can't create folders (organization!). Recently I also bought Super Metroid on the eShop. The game is WINDOWBOXED on my TV! That means that it is surrounded by black frames in all directions, instead of filling out my 4:3 screen entirely. To make matters worse, I contacted Nintendo (UK) and they said there was nothing wrong with the console, and that I need to check my TV's settings! There are none, by the way. It's old. It shows what it's given to show. It is DEFINITELY the console. You know how I know? Because Wii Menu fills my screen. It HAS to be half-assed software. Lastly, Nintendo Land. Please, can you create a more annoying "voice"? The minigames are, admittedly, pretty good for the most part. The important thing, though, is the games. After a game is running, I have nothing to complain about (assuming the text isn't too tiny). So far the only REAL game I have is Wind Waker HD, and well, it's great! I expect the Wii U to have quite a bunch of great games coming up, and I even have my eye on a few existing games (including Pikmin 3 and TW101). And of course, it's the games that sell the console in the end. But when you have to battle with the system to actually play the games, I can't recommend the console. /rant.
@NeatNit This isn't exactly productive advice, but: just play old games on old consoles, people. No bullshit DLC, unmanageable hardware issues or high prices. The golden age of gaming has been and gone, so just enjoy games from that age while they're still affordable on ebay! (P.S. I don't recommend using the Virtual Console in Europe unless you are sure the game runs in full screen 60Hz. That may be the cause of your problem, NeatNit).
Coming from someone who hated Wii Sports, Nintendoland alone could be enough to justify the purchase. Just because Nintendo not spending enough on marketing doesn't mean it's not a great platform.
@Sayeth Di Puppeth 'A great platform' might be right, but at the moment the game selection is not that tempting. There are many Wii U games I'd like to play, just none I'm willing to shell out several hundred for, at the current time, Nintendoland definitely included. MK8, Smash and the new Monolith RPG are the ones I'm really waiting for.
Blame the shareholders.

Everything about this game is just *so* perfect!!!
I don't have a Wii U, but a friend lent me his so I could play this game, telling me it was awesome. And awesome it was. I was actually intimidated by this game before I played it, reading about how the battle system is very deep and complex and how it takes a long time before being able to master it. At first I felt like I was just mashing buttons, hoping to pull off good enough moves to win, but the difficulty ramps up to the point where you have to keep getting better. I was really motivated to check out tips and videos on the internet so I could improve. The gameplay absolutely shines once it all clicks (until then, it can get frustrating), the visuals and soundtrack are awesome and you're constantly hit with innovative levels and bosses.
Glad you liked it. It's my personal GOTY 2013. That final boss is fucking incredible.
