If you didn't read the comic book: The cosmosmurf is building a space rocket in order to accomplish his long dream of visiting mars. Only the grandsmurf knows it won't work. The rocket can't really fly. So instead he have the whole village drug the cosmosmurf, disassemble the rocket and transport everything to a volcano crater. Then all the smurfs disguise themselves in martians and surprise him with "otherworldly" intelligent life, strange customs and gibberish language. Really sweet story.

Apparently Alberto Jose Gonzalez has taken a lot of Tim Follin inspiration.
This was my very first GameBoy game and this level was the farthest I could go. Simply listening to this theme transports me back in childhood.

This game is actually pretty dope, not really your typical Infogrames French comics adaptation in a video game I guess. One of my fondest Game Boy Color memories from my childhood was this game tbh. Very fun platformer.

@SupraDarky A lot of composers don't really learn about music. And those that go to school for it (like me) often have composition mentors that say, "Ya know all that crap you learned in Theory classes? Fuck it. Just write something good."

@bregowine I think SupraDarky planned to have this song to reference the Smurfs movie, since it takes place in New York in "another world". Seriously, why couldn't they put the same love and charm they did with the Winnie the Pooh film? It seems that many good 2D cartoons that go to 3D always seem to turn out bad.

@TheTKCreborn The only film of the year ( or probably as of the last 10 years) to get this type is WInnie the Pooh. Anyway, either his memory was shody or he suffered brain damage from the traler. Either way, they might as well be green since it's all screwed up anyway.

Gonzalez said in an interview that he never learned about music, that he just composed songs until his ears felt they sounded right. It reminds me of myself since that's the way I am when I compose music, though I'm nowhere near as good as him. Vastly underrated composer, but definitely not in this list !
To me it's by far the best chiptune composer. All of his GB songs are amazing.
That's the same way I do it. Except I am much worse. I've only been doing it for 3 years and I rarely make anything musical these days. Part of me still wants to do it, but idk.
Same to me also. I just started learning music when I went to study in a music school.
