Just beat Pokemon Yellow for the first time yesterday. It really is amazing how well Junichi Masuda composed this track (and others) with the limitations of the Gameboy.

X/Y was a good game for a lot of other reasons, but yeah there's no topping Gary.

Muk is toxic slime, the basis for Pokémon being environmental (Satoshi's own interviews) it makes sense that a creation like that would be in there, Voltorb being a Pokeball at least make sense because a Pokeball is a important part of the Pokémon world and Ditto at least is a cool idea (a Pokémon that can mimic other Pokémon appearance, who the doesn't think that's bad ass??). Please don't excuse the detestable examples of the current Pokémon against the 1st gen, it doesn't work.

Shigeru is the default name for Gary in Japan. In the Japanese version instead of Ash, the protagonist is called Satoshi after the creator; Satoshi Tajiri. Shigeru gets his name from Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Mario and Zelda series and who is Tajiri's idol, so he name the rival character Shigeru in his honour.
guys stop complainging about gen 5 having terrible Pokémon, look at gen 1, Voltorb is just a pokeball, Muk is just some slime, Pidgey is a bird, Seel is just a seal with 2 E's, Ditto is just some slime that can mimic other Pokémon, seriously guys COMMON SENSE.
i actually would understand the ice cream and trash bag pokemon, its easy to run out of ideas after 5 generations, now were moving to the 6th. you just cant say that they wouldn't run out of ideas after making 649 different Pokémon, Pidgey is just a bird/pigeon and Pidove is just another pigeon.

The first time I faced Blue in battle, I had a level 70 Charizard, a level 60 Articuno, a level 45 Nidoking, a level 45 Butterfree, a level 68 Gengar (I had a link cable), and a level 20 Tentacool (I only used him for Surf.) At the time, I was five, and I thought I had the most badass team in the world. c:
For real that save was a pain. Had to do a lot of do-overs.

Fair enough, but what game could actually be called perfect? No, but your right, im just saying that it sucks to see such a fall in quality in something that I loved as a kid.
How do round electric balls have any context with a power-plant other than being electric type? Magnemite makes sense in the context that magnets are common tools in the production of energy, but voltorb is just simply a gimmick to make pokemon that can be mistaken for items on the world map. Any electric type could've replaced it's story context. I'm not saying black/white don't have some terrible designs, but the older games are far from perfect.
I was defending the Pokemon based on animals/ creatures. I was arguing against ridiculous ideas like Ice Cream pokemon in the new ones. And pokemon like Voltorb fit into the story in context, being found in abandoned power plants and what not. I was arguing specifically against the Ice Cream pokemon in my comment. In what context could he be possibly acceptable? Is he found in haunted Dairy Queens or Baskin Robins? The older pokemon are crazy but at least they had context.
I personally think the vast majority of new Pokemon look incredibly stupid. Maybe it's just because I grew up with Pokemon Blue, it being my first video game and all, but I feel like they ran out of good ideas long ago. I think Blue did pretty much everything better than later generations, with the exceptions being the box system and running shoes, which of course were remedied in Leaf Green. I'm not, of course, saying you're wrong in liking the new Pokemon. I'm just stating my opinion.
Who can defend a ball that evolves into itself only larger, and upside-down? Also, I think you forget that all generations have pokemon based on animals. What do you think Squirtle is? Or ponyta? All generations have both highlights and lowlights, and in all honesty the series is better off for it. It gives contrast to our favorites whatever they may be so that we may appreciate them all the more.

New things should be welcomed and I like some of the newer Pokemon games but c'mon... Black and White suck. The Pokemon arent even original anymore, for christ's sake there is a fuggin ICE-CREAM Pokemon. Pokemon (even look at how Satoshi came up with the idea for Pokemon) is based on adventure, etc blah blah but most of all its based on ANIMALS/ CREATURES. Magnemite and Pokemon like him are acceptable simply for their quirkiness but an ICE CREAM Pokemon? Please... who can defend that?

@TheBigAnimation I'm not a nostalgialist or any of that fanboy shit,but new ones just suck since they add things that takes away the real hard earned rewards.For example the abilities just ease up the battle and forces you to search the Pokemon with that ability and forget the others or the fact that the rival HELPS YOU instead of torturing you.I'm sorry but new ones just plain sucks(Once again I'm not fanof anything or nostalgialist)...
@TheBigAnimation I do respect people's opinion of something they don't like, even if I love the game they're talking about, but their negative attitude and sometimes nitpicky form of criticism really bothers the hell out of me. I mean, the G3-5 Pokémon games kept the majority of elements that existed in G/S/C, as well as putting in new stuff, but a lot of people still prefer R/B/Y, which was riddled with bugs and overpowered Pokémons.

@Garudabr If you stopped in Crystal, you'll love Black and White. White was totally similar to my first experience of Crystal. Awesome soundtracks, each city being unique, and the bridges...you'll love the experience of walking through Sky Arrow Bridge for the very first time. I know I loved it.

For the Pokemon games, I personally stopped at Ruby/Sapphire since it got monotonous, I will never forget the primaries, Red, Blue, and Yellow
i used to play pokemon... but now sucks... I stopped in crystal version.... But the best is the yellow

@SideSmash All the battle themes from Gen 2 onward are derivative of the original battle theme. While none of them were awful until recently, I had to mute Black and White during battles almost immediately.

When I was young, I actually got my uncle's Super Nintendo and a Super Game Boy just so I could play this game. It seemed so much more incredible on my TV than any tiny Game Boy screen could handle.

@stardyjab I mainly made the comment because everywhere else I go, sadly I see everyone played as Bulbasaur cause the guide told them or Charmander cause he's admittingly the coolest looking. But Squirtle, Wartortle, and Blastoise don't ever seem to get any love. :(

Highly suggest you try out Black/White. It is the perfect game to jump back into the series with, seeing as you only see the new Pokemon, until you beat the game for the first time.

Great memories. I must have heard this theme hundreds of time as I'd go through the ending battles over and over again to get some EXP. I ended up playing this game a lot on the Super Gameboy now that I think about it. I haven't played a Pokemon game in a very long while.
