I still don't get why people like Super Metroid. It's waaay too hard, confusing as FUCK, and the save station/ health station mechanic sucks. Also, the secrets are too well hidden.. Music's good tho
Mr. Anonymous I think the best way to experience it is to play Nestroid for a good hour or two then play Super Metroid. It feels like a refreshing break. Nestroid is h a r d. Harder than this game I think.

Or just get a rom. I normally frown on piracy, but my opinion is that if a game is more than 1 generation of console behind, it''s morally acceptable to pirate it. The SNES certainly falls into this category.

And it happens in Super Metroid and Metroid prime, quite a feat to make a platformer and a FPS as imersive as a rpg (as small rpg) Try them, ps if you want to be "pulled in" try to find Terranigma, you be happy you did.

i remember having to play chrono trigger on emu.(no hope of ever getting a port at that time) and for that game it worked and totally pulled me in. but that probably only works with rpg's
That's unfortunate, I'm your opposite I've only played this Metroid and hunters on the DS
I'm talking about if you play it on a computer, sitting there with your small screen and keyboard trying to play a game is bound to rip the experience from you. Sitting at your TV, playing with a real controller (or a Classic Controller, pretty much the same) will give you the experience of a lifetime with this game.
It's not so bad if you have a controller available.
As a person who played the Prime series before Super Metroid, I couldn't agree more.
Heck, I generally prefer linear games to open ones and don't replay games often (though I vow to fix that in the future!) and this is still one of my favorite games of all time.
Playing any game on a emulator is a waste of time, you won't get the full experience, if even half of the experience the game would normally offer. If you own a Wii and a SD card might aswell just emulate it on the Wii itself. Computer emulators give people the wrong insight into incredible games like these.
I wish people would stop trying to find ways to justify piracy.
Yeah this is my favorite pre-N64 Nintendo game and third favorite Nintendo game behind Ocarina of Time and Super Mario Galaxy.
You know that feeling you have when a franchise you love has gone past its heyday and its last game simply didn't cut it? As much as I disagree with the Other M haters, I really do have to feel that way when I see Samus in Lower Norfair, standing on those jumbled columns.

There are very few games that have made as much of an impact in a level intro than the Brinstar opening - riding down the elevator, and slowly hearing the music grow louder and louder as the landscape is revealed. So awesome.

This right here is hands down the best theme in Super Metroid. Which is saying alot because that game had a metric ton of really good music. @atza20 Except Other M. :| Although, you may have posted this before it was released... Either way, seriously, lets just retcon that one out of existence and just pretend there's never been a bad Metroid game.

@burnedelitefish They were going to release Prime on the n64. it's a good thing they waited a few years because it probably would have been awful based on screen caps. Instead inturned into probably the best GCN games, and maybe one of the best ever.

@007fan97 I'm not sure really... I guess it just didn't appeal to me as much as other Metroid games. Not sure about the full reason though. Just not particularly in love with this Metroid game as much as other people are.
I love every single Metroid game except this one, and I still love this games music. Even if this is my least favorite Metroid, it still knew how to rock.

@MrEpicTruth Sigh, I wouldn't say it was that awful, but the terrible dialogue and story was so bad... I tried to give it a chance and it failed in that aspect, it was also incredibly short and quite linear for a Metroid game although perhaps the less time it went on for the better. Otherwise the gameplay was good, surprised at how well the controls worked, and of course it was graphically sound. I especially enjoyed the 'extra' boss!
Swear this is my absolute fav song from Super Metroid!! Ridley's theme is awesome, and so many others, but to me its like its saying Samus Aran is a legend!!

Other M was not a bad game, just not as good as we all hoped it was going to be. That is the downside of being a fan of the best of the best.

@itoril (I'm the same person) I wouldn't. I enjoyed the Prime trilogy how it was. I think if they'd do that, it'd be too much like Other M, WHICH I HATED.

@electricmastro Well, there's also F-Zero and Fire Emblem since Nintendo considers them "flagship titles". To us outside of Japan, that's nonsense, but IN Japan, FE has FAAAR outsold FINAL FLIPPING FANTASY for AT LEAST 8 years now. And, well F-Zero...all you need is Goroh, Black Shadow, Zoda, Octoman, Pico, Captain Falcon, some racers, and a track! GX proved you don't need the best music for an F-Zero game to be good, lol.

with me it was a competetion between me and my dad, we were even back then, but now ive far surpassed him in 2d games and super metroid, donkey kong country 2, mega man x will always have a special place in my heart

Back when I was a kid I would always ask my dad to play and I would watch him play this game. When he would make it to the final boss (whom everyone knows by now surely) I would be too scared to stay in the room. I miss the good ol days where games weren't just about graphics. Also I never really cared for the music back then just how fun the game was. Now I enjoy the music and never really noticed how underrated this one is.
This game provided HOURS of quality entertainment. Shame the new "3D" games ain't as good.

Sadly, I wasn't video game savvy enough to experience the real SNES games as a 4-5 year-old but I did make one of the best finds ever... A Link To The Past. Luckily Wii's Virtual Console lets me relive the old memories using both the Classic Controller and the TV like it was 1995 all over again. Boy that feels good...
Just realize dPrime 2 multiplayer is a remix of this. Listen closely...

Metroid was pretty good. Super Metroid was absolutely excellent, and is my 2nd favourite game on the SNES. Metroid Prime was very, very boring. I believe the jump to 3D didn't cut it with me. I havn't played any other Metroid games than these.

for some reason this is the only metroid i really liked. i didn't think very highly of the prime games and the original hasn't aged well. i need to play fusion i've heard it's similar to super metroid... anyways this tune just sets the mood perfectly
To me this was the catchiest? track in Super Metroid, but the whole soundtrack was amazing. I think it really took videogames and especially the SNES to the next level in terms of sound quality.

Yes, a forbidding atmosphere of methane and ammonia. Possibly with some kind of microscopic airborne parasites as well. Super Metroid is the greatest.
I love this kind of music. It just makes you feel cool and dangerous when you're playing, and it fits the slick/alien/sci-fi feel of Samus and the environment like a glove. It manages to turn the gameplay into storytelling, not just action.
