This takes me back to the days when I'd play this for hours with my cousin, trying to beat all of the various challenges. Now I want to go back and play some more.

i thought this game shat on goldeneye as a kid just because i had kind of odd interests then, as i do now. i dont know, i just thought this game was badass because it was darker and the atmosphere was really cool with the aliens and futuristic city and all that. while goldeneye was just... james bond...
This is the best fps of all time. The multiplayer is the greatest thing in the universe. The statistics are awesome and the soundtrack is great.
She has the reflection of an alien (Elvis) in her eye. I never noticed that.

Personally, I think it's unfair to compare Perfect Dark to Halo. They don't play the same, don't have the same mood and one is mission based while the other is a lenghty campaign. It is ironic that some people slam one dev but praise the other. Rare did to the N64 what Bungie did to the original Xbox: it prevented a console from being totally shred to pieces by the competition.

@TheR9RO Perfect Dark yes, everything is the same except they bumpped up the framerate and upgraded the textures. But the physics and gameplay are the same
@Tekknight007 Having an awesome movie behind an awesome video game made it famous. Perfect Dark didnt have James Bond name on it so it was kind of confusing; specially the levels layout. I remember getting lost on the 1st lvl cuz theres a hidden switch or something. And the story becomes interesting when Elvis is introduced.

I remember once, when I was very little, I was watching my brother play this. He offered to let me play, and I thought up the excuse (I don't like FPS's) that I didn't want to play as a guy character... to which he replied that the person in this game was a girl. whoops. xP

@BLSoldier00 I think its like the graphics: Its just a nice touch. Besides, perfect dark wasnt THAT slow, at 30 fps you can play nicely. Even at theaters play movies at 24 fps. I think its just like the graphics, tey want perfection but its just something "extra". IMO.
Oh and also, not only did I love this game, I LOVED the F**K out of this song. I don't cuss usually but that's how much I love this song. (Still kick myself for not subbing to you sooner SupraDarky)
On paper, Perfect Dark was superior to Goldeneye in every way. But Goldeneye usually ends up being the favored game. Its hard for me to choose, I LOVE the HELL out of both. But I do know that I had way more awesome multiplayer session in Goldeneye than I did Perfect Dark. If only Perfect Dark Zero didn't captured the esscence of this game, It woulda been awesome.
@dx619hey Maybe, but I believe it plays randomly sometimes even if you don't choose it to.
@drunyon214 Can't you have any theme play during multiplayer? You can in the 360 version at least.

Just beat this game the other day for the first time ever. This track actually plays after the ending credits roll. Not a bad theme. The campaign was pretty subpar and boring in this game, especially compared to its predecessor, but the multiplayer was superior to Goldeneye. The bots were a great addition. I think Goldeneye holds up better looking back, but Perfect Dark was the better game when it was released.

Perfect Dark perfected every aspect of Goldeneye (except the story maybe). Soundtrack wise, I'll say both are pretty much on par. Both have very memorable songs, and the atmosphere they created are really appropriate with their respective game. I'll go with PD as the best OST, especially with the "X" version of some songs (Extraction!). But I can't deny the power of some GE tracks (Silo or the Main Theme among others).
Perfect Dark had a ton of good music. Hope you upload some more.
@hector8927 High framerates = better gameplay. It's painful to play a FPS while the framerate is choppy.
Perfect Dark on N64 is where is at, good old memories and I still own this on my N64 too.
@maniac923 Nah, it's not Nintendo's fault, at least not completely, neither Rare, nor Nintendo have the James Bond rights anymore, nor Activision (who does) have the rights for Pierce Brosnan's face among other copyright BS

When does this play in the game?
i prefer this one over goldeneye. Voice acting, Awesome weapons, GIGANTIC maps on solo missions, a lot of new objectives and areas depending on wich dificult did you play, OVERWELMING MUSIC!, BLESS THE CMP150!!!!, two modalities with the guns, varied objectices, AI on multiplayer, and my favorite thing: You can put AS MANY AI BOTS EVEN IF YOURE PLAYING WITH 4 FRIENDS!. F*** the frame rate, who cares about it? i dont know why all the suden framerate is so important now.LET DESTROY DATADYNE!

@SupraDarky Agreed. Although some people prefer this over Goldeneye..haha I don't know why though the frame rates weren't as good as 007.
I tried revisiting this and Goldeneye, but they aged badly for me and my friends. Especially since goldeneye was in that one joystick era of shooters and we've been spoiled with analog and what not.
@buytamra3 wouldn't be the same if you couldn't use the N64 controller though, and pfft xbox :P
I ultimately liked this more than GE, the only problem I had was that it ran like crap on the N64. I want to get the XBLA version just for a better framerate and controls. This song is really nice. One of my favorite songs is the Training theme.

@SupraDarky This was far superior to goldeneye. proximity mines, slayer, laptop, farsight... best guns ever. wish they would bring the game back and make it online. No updated graphics though, old N64 style straight up

Oh god I was only about 8 when this came out and my brother got it. What memories of shooting up the Ai. (Because I couldn't beat the single player for shit) My sister once said to me "This is a bad, bad game!" Fuck that. I'm gonna be nostalgic now.

Just because its a FPS? What's your major malfunction? This game (along with Golden Eye/Turok 2) defined and set the bar for FPS's and Multiplayer games that spawned after. This was the greatest FPS of its time......IMO
i actually likes this game for a first person shooter.

I preferred perfect dark over golden eye, atleast the multiplayer. although i love both of them.

Awesome game, though I didn't find it quite as good and memorable as Goldeneye. It has some pretty awesome music, which was expected from Rare games. Oh and I know some people who never noticed the alien in Joanna Dark's eye. :P Speaking of her, I already mentioned it previously but she's voiced by Eveline Fischer, the composer of DKC3 and some of the music in DKC.
