It's a shooter and a roleplaying game. The levels are ugly and everyone looks the same. We are not the same Ion Storm who made Daikatana. Our games are good and stay on schedule. We made a sequel that no one liked because we dumbed it down too much 'cause we're thick.

ONE OF THE BEST VIDEO GAMES IN THE PLANET This game is so captivating in many aspects and it really makes you feel like you're in a different world. Most games nowadays just fail to deliver that experience despite of the realistic looking graphics.

Remember hearing this the first time at the end of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and thought it sounded silly. But after a few minutes listening to it, I must admit it is pretty catchy and now I just can't get it out of my head. Partly outdated game but the level design and conspiracy theme is just fantastic!

Having never seen Deus Ex in it's glory days wherein the amount of stuff in it would have creamed a 2000's gamers' pants instantly, I can safely say that It's not the best use of like £2.50 on steam. I don't care that it looks like a bunch of cardboard cutouts chilling in boxy levels with rough textures. What I do care about is the fact that it has no discernable narrative hook. I'm playing this "great game" that feasts off of nostalgia, and currently, having died repeatedly in the second level, any hook that might have drawn me in, is now long since passed and I'm not having fun with it. So far I know that JC Denton is unnecessarily an edgelord and doesn't wear his trenchcoat as well as Adam does, Bob is Bad, Ambrosia is good, NSF is misguided but good, and UNATCO is corrupt. but I'm struggling to care honestly, because I don't know why I'm shooting these guys, I don't care, move me onto the next bit of story already because I can stop playing and play portal 1+2, an objectively better made story-driven game series, or some other games that actually draw me in to what the heck I'm doing. (and no I don't play conventional FPS's) But that's my opinion from a new perspective, nearly 17 years after release.

Also paul is not a clone and his parents aren't related to Jensen. Also, Paul is supossed to be born in 2018, before he could have been modified with adam jensen's DNA. I mean, as Adam is an exceptional case for mecha aug tolerance, Paul is for nano aug, but they're independant from each other. thatw why fans mostly discarded Jensen as a posible DNA donor for Paul or something like that . JC is a clone of Paul.

After all, JC doesn't have the excuse Jensen had (having his larynx destroyed post-defenestration).

+Captaincj 2005 Quicksave and Quickload every 5-10 seconds and you should be fine. lol. Getting one of the weapon skills to at least advanced helps immensely as well. I did that for one-handed being I opt for the mini crossbow and regular pistol.
+Captaincj 2005 If your still having problems, build melee combat and just run up to people and hit them in the head a few times. Made the game so easy, even a couple of MIB weren't a problem once you combine that with the DragonTooth.

+MindstormXL I'm very much part of the minority because I didn't find Invisible War to be too bad. It was quite a bit more casual in comparison and the levels were MUCH smaller. The combat wasn't as satisfying either. But still, I had fun. I'm sure it would have been a LOT better if they just took the route of developing the game for PC first and then release a modified version for Xbox with restructured maps and assets. I remember the first Far Cry basically did this, and compensated for it with a modified storyline. That became Far Cry Instincts.

I just bought Deus Ex and HR plus System Shock 2 yesterday during the steam sales, and I can already tell I'm going to love them. Half Life is already on my top 3 games of all time with Ocarina of Time and Monster Hunter 4U, can't wait to play these amazing games.
@TNB12 Deus Ex's horrible graphics may put you off but keep just try to look past it. Definitely do the tutorial! There are a lot of mechanics to get used to! Don't be deterred! Install a couple of visual mods if you must! That was kind of what put me off System Shock 2 I'm ashamed to say. 4 hours in and I was still trying to figure out how stuff worked!

@GodILoveAlcohol system shock 2 is a great game but if you play it now youwould probably feel like it is a copy of bishops. But if you played it on 1999 you would feel it like a complete piece of art. Those games are on my list of all time favorites.

My personal favourite game of all-time! The music of this amazing game always brings me back to when I first played it three years ago. When I think about it, I feel bad because I pre-judged it when I got the three pack Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Deus Ex: Invisible War, and Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition. I wanted to play the newest one, but I saw that Deus Ex 1 and Invisible War were before it and even never knew that the first one existed because I thought that Invisible War was first (got it in a video card purchase a long time ago). I decided to play Deus Ex 1 just so I could get to Human Revolution with knowledge of the story and such. Little did I know that I would be playing the best game ever! Invisible War I already knew about and played a little from before, but it never measured up to the experience of Deus Ex 1 because it was really dumbed down, but not TERRIBLE as others perceive it. And to this day, I have not played Human Revolution since I have been playing many other games. I will get to it eventually, but I can still feel relieved and satisfied knowing I played the best installment :)
@Quiptipt Power of Google. Anyways, Invisible War is the sequel to Deus Ex 1. It starts off twenty years after the first iteration, and takes elements of all three possible endings' events and goes from there. It was hugely panned by critics due to the over-simplified gameplay due to it being released for consoles. I did not find it to be AS bad as critics said, but I did find it underwhelming in some parts. It is not as bad everybody says though, that much is true from my view point as I had enjoyed it still. Just not as much as the first game. Try it out though, you will never know if you will enjoy the game or not if you don't try it! :)

As a result, I played the first level, the island, about a dozen times trying to beat it and never did. As a result, I never got farther in. I watched my roommate play most of it, though.
I played IW, I thought the writing was absolute crap and I didn't find the game world the least bit immersive. The universal ammo was just the icing on the fuck you-cake. While the first Deus Ex game had many faults (even at the time), it did at least have a believable game world and some interesting themes that were relevant to the plot.

@CLMisanAcronym I wish they'd recreate the first game with Human Revolution graphics. I still play the first game now and then. Not many games leaves such a great impression. I remember playing it for the first time when it came out like 14 years ago. Even then, the graphics weren't that good, but ok I guess...if you compare it to Half-Life that came out 2 years earlier for instance. But locations, music, plot etc. made it all up. I remember I played the sequel 11 years ago. I was a bit dissapointed to be honest, but I liked the fact that all 3 endings in the first game had happened. What I disliked was the extremly small levels/maps. You had to go through all these stupid doors that was set up. For instance in the ice on Liberty Island, in Antarctica etc. Human Revolution blew me away. I hope they will make another game.

That's just a case of the meaning of a word shifting over time. Like "floppy disks" that haven't been floppy since the 3''1/2 model was introduced, or "solid state disks" that aren't even disks. Personally I find the Duclaire Chateou or Hong Kong tracks much more enjoyable but as far as main menu goes, this is probably the best one of all times.
I'll never be able to forget this amazing game. They simply can't make such amazing atmosphere anymore...

I think McCann honestly did a superb job every time I launch the game and hear its menu theme it gives me chills of how it good it is. But this did too back in the day. Anyways I think the game lived up to the franchise. Or should I say first one at least.

The original Deus is arguably the best game I've ever played. I enjoyed HR, but it has absolutely nothing on the original title at all. As far as mods go, Shifter mixes it up a bit and makes some improvements here and there. HDTP is pretty much an essential these days too.
The plot in DX is tons better. Granted HR was tied down by not really having a villain to focus on (the mercs were lame). I love HR's treatment of Augments more than DX's though. Nano is boring while Jensen's Augs seemed like an evolution of our Desktop/Laptop/Smartphones. I found them a lot more engrossing but Denton's story didn't really focus on trans-humanism. Gameplay wise it's superior in depth, and it feels more engaging than HR's. Which felt really staged.
How does the original Deus X compare to Human Revolution? I thought HR was OK, but not great. Should I try Deus X with mods if I didn't think HR was epic or are they just about the same? I love epic RPG's like Planescape Torment and fallout1-2, so I was expecting much more from HR.

Honestly, HR kinda dissapointed me. DX is my favourite game of all time, and I find myself coming back to it again and again. I heard A LOT OF positive hype after HR came out, everyone saying it was as good as the original, so I played it. It was... good. It's one of the best games to come out this year, but it doesn't hold up for even a second when put against THIS gem. I really can't see myself coming back to it, and for me, that means it failed. It was, however, once again, REALLY GOOD.

Wow! Just Wow!! The first time i heard this, it blew me away! I absoultly love this game, it's one of my favorites of all time. This theme song is one that just gets you gripped and makes you want to get involved in this game. Excellent music!!

And in the unlikely case that there's someone who's going to enjoy it and hasn't played it, I doubt they'll come to this video before having gotten to that point. This is probably up there among the best PC games I've ever played. Brilliant. Makes me feel old to think this is ten years old now o.O;
Finally completed it in 2010, and I have to say, it does hold up pretty well. Except graphic-wise, the Unreal1 Engine really hurt my eyes by now... ^^

Many people won't play this gem because of its graphics. What a shame.
One of the best things about this game for me was that turning to the "Bad guys" actually seemed like a plot twist. In most games when there's a guerilla fighting versus the government, the government is always painfully obviously the bad guys. Here whilst UNATCO seemed pretty bad, the NSF seemed even worse, as though you were fighting for the lesser of two evils. Later on there's Paul's "betrayal", which is genuinely surprising the first time round.

I finished Deus Ex two weeks ago. and man, I enjoyed the game heaps! Most games decisions carry 'Morality' to them, but this game, you don't know if your decisions are bad and how much weight it will carry. The story was GREAT and I enjoyed the conspiracy theory's. I loved being stealthy and the amount of ways you could complete missions. Great game!
I started and stopped this game four times before I finally got into it just this past summer. I'm glad I did finally get into it, as it was one of the most profound gaming experiences that I've had. I actually felt like my decisions had weight to them, unlike the trivial "Morality" systems of other games. Also, the story itself was amazing, namely because of the integration of real-world parallels and far-fetched conspiracy theories.
I love this theme. It fits one of my favorite games of all time perfectly.
@Fransinn3 If I remember correctly, the title is part of "Deus ex machina", which translates into "God from the machine", which has a lot to say considering how much stuff they put into the game.

@SupraDarky Yep, pretty much hit the nail on the head for me. I HATED Deus Ex when I first played it as well. But I decided not to give up and I eventually grew to truly love and appreciate it for what a great game it is. Recently I have gotten my best friend into playing Deus Ex, and he feels just the same about it as I do. It's things like that which make me proud to be a gamer.

i hated it : ( it did everything wrong the only good thing was the story, and i never saw it through to the end, but the online, wow, the hit dectection was bad, the wepons didnt aim at all, there was lag, every bloody time you joined a game there was a mod, but i loved the mp, simply because the people were nice : )
@PenisGrande Play it, it's really good and incredibly overlooked in todays market. Easily one of the defining FPS-RPG's of the earlier generations.

I played this game years after its release through Steam, and I loved it. I think this is a game that doesn't leave a great first impression, but when you stick with it after a couple hours you really start getting into it. I can't wait for Human Revolution, hopefully Eidos Montreal does a good job with it, it does seem very good so far from what I've read. I wish they'd get Alexander Brandon to do the music, Michael McCann has some big shoes to fill.
