I miss Unreal 1's music system.
This is just MOD music: the same kind used in the Amiga days. There's nothing about it unique to Unreal 1.
@kenogu: Your point? He wasn't comparing Unreal to mid-80's mod tracking software, he just said he missed it. Probably... because he liked it?

I still remember not enjoying this game when I first played it. Once I got out of Liberty Island though, the game completely clicked with me and I was addicted. It's now one of my favorite PC shooters of all time. Playing Vampire: The Masquerade last year gave me some nice Deus Ex vibes and that's when I realized I missed these kind of smart shooters that greatly mixes RPG elements. Tthis is one of the few tracks not composed by Alexander Brandon, but Van Den Bos' contribution is just as great. Gotta love the part starting at 2:05.
I had almost the same exact experience. For me, it became one of my favorites when I got to Hong Kong.
Speaking of shooters, I was at a local flea market yesterday afternoon and I ended up getting MGS 3: Snake Eater for 5 bucks. Is that a good game to start off with? What's your favorite game in the series?
@Eric C. MGS is not really a shooter, it's a stealth game, even though you can do a lot more shooting in that game than in previous MGS games.
I had the exact same experience. In fact, everyone who has told me they don't like the game never got out of the first level either. Most who I convinced to make it past that ended up loving it. I think it's because people aren't used to this type of game, especially not any more. It's overwhelming to a lot of players, and they don't know how to continue. Once you begin to appreciate and understand the openness though, you wish all games would follow suit. Still my favourite game now, and the OST doesn't get enough love imo.

I always get bored at the Statue of Liberty and have never made it past.
My first run of the Statue of Liberty mission didn't go too well, as I was playing it as a regular FPS. When it finally clicked that it was about being stealthy, it became one of my classics. And they even managed to weave every existing conspiracy theory into a good story!
For me I really started to get into it onces I got to the Hell's Kitchen area, I really felt like a cyborg detective, sniffing out clues and talking to people to get intel. And the song from that area really fit that theme as well.
