It's smaller, more niche titles like this, that 90% of people wouldn't enjoy but are beloved beyond belief by the 10% that are true successes. CoD or Battlefield may sell millions, but I firmly do believe they bring less joy to the people that play them than weird little titles like Deadly Premonition, Killer7 or the Mother series.
As someone that enjoys niche titles like Eternal Darkness or Lufia, I don't think it's fair to say they're more fun or bring more joy than the more popular games. Just because it's a different kind of joy, doesn't mean it's lesser.
@pianoguy222 I don't know, I've always found that niche titles that fit the things I like perfectly are the most enjoyable experiences, simply because they're hitting exactly what they need to hit to make ME, in particular, happy. To put it in RPG terms (because I feel the need to for some reason), they're specializing in the spells I have a weakness to. The way popular titles are spread out to appeal a little to everyone I think isn't as condusive to that kind of stuff. I do enjoy Battlefield a lot (CoD maybe a little less), but I don't enjoy it at quite that fundamental level, if I'm making any sense.
I think that speaks more to your own preferences. Why cannot someone's preferred "niche" be the multiplayer cover-based shooting that CoD or Battlefield offers?
@pianoguy222 I would disagree. I would say that it's lesser. Big titles often aim to please *everyone* or as big an audience as they can garner, "spreading" the pleasure over a large coverage, reducing it's value. Niche titles target a specific group and stick to making sure that group gets the best experience they can bring to them, concentrating the pleasure into a small mark. A title with "something for everyone"< A title that means "everything to someone"

@fallouthirteen And PS3 owners will soon be able to enjoy it as well without having to pay the large import price. It will also have extra scenarios and move compatibility.
@SupraDarky Don't know if you've gotten to playing it yet, but I must say, it's got my vote for the best game of this console generation. A truly unique game that is absolutely fantastic if you can look past inconsistent graphics and a limited (but amazing) soundtrack.

Deadly Premonition had one of the most terrifyingly affecting and beautiful endings I've experienced yet in a game. Very strange and hilarious game overall. If you can get the title theme music that is played on acoustic guitar, I would listen to it over and over and over.

This game is great. The story is charming and creepy. During play I stayed up late, until I played so much I got sleepy...so says Mr. Stewart.
OH, I love this game. It is so frakked up and insane, but well worth it! The other good song in this game, IMO, is the "Deputy Willie" theme.
I watched the giantbomb playthrough of this and happy songs don't play during the worst moments. the types of mysterious, scary and shocking music you expect playing during the tense moments. In a nut shell: the controls are stiff and outdated, but the game makes up for it by being the most ambitious, charming and creative stories even in a game i've seen. p.s. I love this song, don't you agree Zack?
People shouldn't get the wrong idea though, this isn't one of those "so bad it's good" game's, a lot of the weird/charming parts of the game was done on purpose. Though Swery did admit that the gameplay was ass

Oh God, now I won't be able to stop whistling along to it. I love this game, it's just so deliciously cheesy. Anybody with a 360 that's interested should freakin' buy it. You can't go wrong with such a quirky game for only 20 bucks.
@SupraDarky It's an incredibly strange game, but if you're patient, it's almost sublimely genius. If you're not patient and willing to look beyond the surface, it's pure crap. Most bizarre game I've played in ages. Sort of like playing Twin Peaks.

I'll have to say it first, Super Mario World.
I haven't played this game yet but I've heard some weird things about it. It's an open world humoristic survival horror game, I think. The Destructoid review might be a good place to get an idea of what this game is about (they gave it a 10/10). Supposedly happy songs like this one play during the worst moments and rarely fit the scene. Also, my thoughts and prayers go to anyone in Japan right now, it's horrible what's happening there right now with the earthquakes and the tsunamis.
