Honestly if you don't play the 2nd one, you'll be missing out on an incredibly great game. I'll agree the 1st one was a bit out there but in Origins, they've fixed many of the 1st ones flaws including the voice actors. Not saying you have to but it's still worth a shot...

I didn't really like Baten Kaitos-1. It went a little off the fantasy deep end for my tastes -- it lost me in the pastry and frosting themed village. I finished it, but was quite ready to be done with it by the time it actually ended, even though i seem to be the only person in the universe to have gotten the ending where Xhella lived. I think i'll take a miss on #2 thanks.
This is a bit late but if you have the chance to play #2 you definitely should. I also didn't like #1 very much but #2 the combat is so different and enjoyable! also there is no pastry village xD

Playing through this for the first time right now... its awesome.
As an european, i couldn't play this game when it was released in the US. I hadn't a credit card so i couldn't import it along with a freeloader. So today, thanks to thw wonder of the emulation, i can finally play it. The battle system rocks, the backgrounds are wonderful, the music is fantastic and the story is far more interresting than the one from bk1 in my opinion. These scenes as marno with this theme are so emotionnal.
This was the first Gamecube game I ever imported. It came at a really unfortunate time, right at the end of the Cube's life. I live in the UK, and we got shafted with no release date for this. I loved the first Baten Kaitos so much that I had to import. Great game, but fuck the HoloHolo bird.
@Sephiko Remember it's Baten Kaitos: Origins, not Baten Kaitos 2.
Sakuraba sure knows how to get me hooked on his music. It's no wonder I've been listening to this track for two days now. He's a genius. :D

I got stuck in the first Baten Kaitos at the part where you fight Giaccomo and his two henchpeeps in the same fight. I saved on the airship, so I couldn't go back and level up. I haven't played it since. I should give it another shot.
I've played the first one, but never did Origins. I really enjoy Motoi Sakuraba's work, and his work on the 1st BK was one of his best effort!! I plan on doing this one in the future.
sadly, few people know this game... it is really good as well as the first game and i recommend playing it to everyone who likes RPGs
I miss this series :( I really really really hope for a 3rd installment, because I will buy it for sure.

@SupraDarky if I remember correctly there actually were plans for a Baten Kaitos for Nintendo DS but it got cancelled :/ still hoping for a Baten Kaitos 3 for 3DS
I loved this game and this series in general. I really hope we'll get a third entry someday. This theme was pretty powerful when it played during certain scenes. Sakuraba really created a distinct and memorable music style for these games.
