This tune grooves so hard. I just realised the percussion panning from left to right is playing what's called "hard swing" - swinging at a 3:1 ratio (dotted eighth + sixteenth) instead of the normal 2:1 triplet feel jazzy swing (becomes more obvious when you slow the song down).

Despite the many contrasts between this Egyptian/Easter Island-themed handheld game and the rest of the Super Mario Bros. series, I remember quite enjoying it. I think Super Mario Land 2 is better, though.
