I played it. It wasn't that impressive. I can think of several SNES RPGs alone with better more-coherent stories, and I'm not even talking about Square.
Breath of fire 2 is one of the best rpg: s out there. Your friend should probably consider not doing lists of any sort.
Its just silly to see how CAPCOM liked to mess up with Western Box-arts!
Breath of fire 1-3 were the best rpg games I played when I was a kid. Still play them but on my computer now.
My friend did a panel on crap games... he spent a lot of time ripping on BoF2. It was quite funny actually.

@SupraDarky Personally I love BoF3 and 4. I didn't really enjoy two that much. But I do hope they continue the series and return to their roots and make a game with BoF 2 and 3's style. Also I would orgasm into eternity if they returned with sprite/2d graphics.
@SupraDarky I had many problems with BOF2.. the secret abilities are hard as heck to find and I didn't know I had to mash the D-pad at Deathevn to continue to the final battle. In many respects I liked the original BOF over this one. As far as music is concerned, I LOVED the inn music in the first one.
Also, I'm sorry, but Katt looks like a man here. So does Nina. Muscle muscle, look at my muscley thighs and buy my game for them!
2, 1, 3, 5, 4 would be my order most to least, 2 all the way the best(perfected) and 4 while still very good, just didn't compare with the first 2(SNES, everyone did everything right). And yet, Capcom just dumped the series first reason they had to drop it. I still don't understand, it always got good reviews, high sales, it did good in every aspect and yet they just POOF away with it. Well, Capcom is the company all about bringing back the classics so I have faith we'll see this return someday.

@chapacoka I don't play horror games... but there's something about the retro RPG that can really set a person on edge, you know? And there's a lot of really messed up things that happen in this game.. XD I dunno, maybe I'm just freaked out easily. >.>;
@Sayeth0Di0Puppeth Seriously? This is the creepiest game you've ever played? Wow...I'm guessing you don't play a lot of horror games, do you? Though I will admit there are some creepy points as well as creepy music in the game.
Sounds kinda pokemon-ish. To me, at any rate.
I've still only played BoF5, but I've seen Valis77 play the first two. I keep wanting to go play it again, it has great replay value.
@Stall0wnized Personally, I like Breath of Fire 2 and 3 the best. They all seem to deal a lot with values and morals... for example, can religion be used for evil, and should you follow it blindly? Is killing ever ok? Is bringing your loved ones back from the dead ok? etc... also, although the games aren't direct sequels, they all take place in the same world (I think), so you can see the world evolve and change over the course of the series. Very interesting i.m.h.o.
You don't know how happy it made me to see this on your list again. :3 This is sadly the only one in the series that I've gotten around to beating, and I found the religion themes really interesting. I don't blame you for liking this one the most. Personally, I like Breath of Fire 3 a bit better, though. ;o As a side note, this is THE CREEPIEST game I've ever played.
@Stall0wnized to be honest aside from Final fantasy and chrono trigger, these are probably some of the best from that period in time.
My favorite game in the series. Capcom really needs to revive this series someday. As much as I found BOF5 unique, I wouldn't mind seeing the series go back its roots. I'm a big fan of the first two on the SNES, more than the 3 sequels.
Big weakness with Breath of Fire II was their final dungeon, Infinity/Abyss Tower, was very long and degree of difficult dramatically jumped. In real life, underground towers similar to Infinity in Breath of Fire 2 or Spiral Tower in Wild ARMS 2 would be impossible to build. In addition, while the introduction shows the underground tower like Infinity with flashes of lighting, you don't see lightning by the time you reach it. You also don't see true hellish environments like magma, fire, and brimstone by the time you reach the bottom of Infinity. If it wasn't for blunders with Infinity/Abyss Tower, Breath of Fire 2 would be a classic.
