One of my most favorite boss fights with one of my most favorite boss themes. My only complaint is that instead of one really good and challenging boss fight here they split it into 2 average boss fights.

Dude, I was on so much Adderall at the time too (as a kid) I remember making a save right before this so I could let it sit in battle and just jam out to this song.
Everything about this battle and the build-up was damn near perfect. The long-awaited revenge, the surge of emotion portrayed via the dialouge, the showdown between two vampires, the presence of this games Belmont, the moon rune betraying Neclord... And all of it carried so well by the music! The battle was no pushover either, it took the knowledge of the entire Marely family, Sierra's control of the moon rune, and the combined effort of six badasses just to put up a fight!
And then there's Rikimaru just wanting some food.
Don't forget the sentient, vampire slaying sword.
On par with the Luca battle.
Felt evne better if you also played Suikoden 1. I even took Hix and Tengaar with me in Suikoden 2 because of the events in 1 lol

Lol. I played this game like 15-16 times (lost count after the 11th time). Always have a save file before neclord, because this is my fave boss song. And since nanami is the only girl, neclord would only bite her.

you know what that make me dissapointed ? The "last boss" music did not fit in with the neclord himself, he just like a freakin low lvl monster........... The fight usualy ended in 2 or 3 turn or worst sometimes in 1 turn if i over leveling my party.......
@dhana piereza, Almost every fight in this game ends quickly. That's exactly why I avoid getting extremely strong every time I play. This game despite being wonderful is absurdly and extremely easy. It only threatens to pretend to have difficulty in Tinto, but it is nothing. Fury + Double Beat is the most overpower thing that can exist in this game, as well as the spells. When I play I only use Fury in Oulan and Double Beat with someone very weak. The spells avoid using lvl3 or higher
@Elias França now that you mention it i think it is ..... and again especially if you over leveling your party. My record is.... beating luca in 1 turn on all 3 teams without using any cheats but only abuse the matilda border gate bug .... you can imagine what happen to our poor old neclord with that party right ?
@Elias França i fought neclord at 47-48 and i still struggle wtf (not at neclord himself, but the challenge is at the golem before neclord).
@Namjala Latak, Ah, what matters in this game is not so much the level but the group and how it is prepared. In my opinion the Golem before the Neclord is more dangerous because it has very high attack and defense. If you play this game with a person with Earth Rune and Riou (MC) retrieving MP and healing the group, all fights are easy, as there is no way to die like this. Riou with recovery of MP in normal attack, healing and Nanami with Earth Rune increasing the defense. With these two being used that way the rest of the group may be the worst characters in the game that is pretty easy. Just have good defense equipment and that's it. edit: I do this in every other Suikoden and it always works: someone with Earth Rune and another one recovering MP and healing. edit 2: If my memory does not fail me, the first time I played the game, Golem ended with me because I did not expect a fight like that. The same thing happened against Luca. The game is only easy if you worry about finding ways to leave it easy or already have knowledge about it. If you play just to enjoy the game and doing the basics, at times it will be difficult.

when I first faced Neclord in the first suikoden, he kicked my ass time and time again and finally I got past him, then he comes back in the 2nd one and I think "Oh shit i'm gonna have to fight him again" I get past the stone golam have hardly any rune spells left and low on medicine so I think, "Crap he's gonna annihilate me!" I get to him, and he only wipes out 2 of my party members before I beat him...kinda a letdown if you ask me.

+David Captain Charisma Ryan Neclord was still sort of at his full strength when you face him in Suikoden 1. All you had was the Star Dragon Sword which was not...really effective against a vampire bearing the Moon Rune. You fight against Neclord, who just lost his main source of power to Sierra, had most of his remaining power sealed by Kahn, and with the Star Dragon Sword. Frankly the struggle he put up was quite remarkable considering how heavily he was handicapped against the hero's party in the second game.
Yeah he was the hardest boss in the first one, Barbarosa was a cake walk

@TheSty2000 I tried almost everything that exist, and FF7 is still the best (with Xenogears, Chrono Trigger/Cross and Valkyrie Profile). Something popular isn't bad only because it's popular. I still hate the FF7-Compilation project though (advent children, crisis core, dirge of cerberus...), this and that are different things.
I had forgotten all about this song. I remember losing to this guy on purpose so I could come back and hear the music again. He wasn't an important villain either.
When you first meet him and he gets away, naturally you're pissed. But when you get the news from Tinto, and after Sierra joins you, that's when you know IT'S ON!

@Domagoj Vuković If you take notice they actually do a pretty good job at balancing the characters in this series via STATS/EQUIP PROFICIENCIES/RUNE SLOTS/DEFAULTS/WEAPON POWER. The best characters end up being the balanced & slightly faster (usually female) characters with 3 open rune slots though. They're able to do anything.
Candurry Skazutz my team always had three swordsmen with three open rune slots. Then I went Double Beat+Double Strike+Fury runes. You can annihilate everything in your path.
I thought he was kind of a filler villain to be honest, but his battle theme is beyond awesome.

Depends on how you define filler. Although this guy wasn't the final boss in both games he appeared he arguably was more evil/killed more peoples then the actual final bosses. He just was content with terrorizing small villages and having his castle. If this guy decided taking over the world was worth it he'd easily be the final boss. I mean seriously it took like some of the best SPECIALIZED fighters against him to take him down. As one guy said he was terribly weakened in Suikoden 2 too. He had almost more influence on the good guys then the actual villains did too. You got like 4-5 characters whose main goal in life was to take this motherfucker down. Still this guy had to compete with Luca Blight so yeah he's the best villain in Suikoden but Suikoden 2 had Mister DIE PIGS.

Luca Blight is a beast though not gonna lie, that being said hes probably, if not the most ruthless, no remorse sob I've ever seen in a villain all the way to his last breath. In my opinion the best villain ever lol
@JustAPerson I agree. Luca Blight Leaves a lasting impression that few JRPG villains are able to replicate. Although that impression fell down a bit after I managed to solo him with my MC in my second playthrough(definitely doable with the right build and if you have played enough before then.)

I brought hix and tengar to the neclord battle to see if there was extra dialogue, but there wasn't.
I always had Bob in my party every time I fight Neclord... and then I would shout: "THIS IS THE REAL TWILIGHT SAGA BITCHES!!" Ahh... good times.
Perhaps his ass might've gotten up if he got a strong enough following. You know how writers can bring back characters who logically should've stayed dead forever because of fan popularity :P

He was easier because the real boss was the golem. The game knew you used up your runes on that, so Neclord was more of a ceremonial fight.
This boss is nowhere near hard enough to merit such an epic song....but I"m not complaining

Still, he could've recovered enough for him to be WORTH fighting. He was so lame in 2... the boss fight was nothing...
it owuld make no sense though. you kill the crap out of that guy in suikoden 2. as a matter of fact he: he gets the crap kicked out of him by 6 people, smited by some kind of powerful irish vampire killing vodoo spell, hit again by super vampire magic and then beheaded by a magic talking sword wheilded by one of the best frontline fighters in the game. his ass anit getting up
well, technically, if you've played suikoden 1, neclord's body got very damaged from Victor and and the Star Dragon Sword. That's why in suikoden 2, he's not as powerful as in the first one, he was still recovering, in fact, if i'm not mistaken, the first time you run in to neclord in North Window City in Suikoden 2, he mentions his body is still in pain and recovering from that fight. If that helps explain at all why he was weak in this game as a boss fight.
All those JRPGS like Crono Trigger, Golden Sun, and Suikoden are awesome in music... xD
It's been a few years so I may be remembering incorrectly, but if not lightning I would swear he was immune to most spells. I unloaded my best ones on him and don't remember doing any real damage to him at all. I need to dig up my game again...if nothing else this gives me an excuse to play it again :)
He is actually very hard if you don't know his golem in the fight before him is immune to magic. If you waste all your 1-shot only best runes on the golem Neclord is a much tougher fight. Still, I do agree. Neclord sorta got wimpified in this game.
Neclord deserved his unique Battle Theme but at least they could have made the fight HARDER. It's not normal that such an important and powerful foe goes down in about 1 minute ... At least in Suikoden 1 he put up a good fight.

Yeah suikoden's 1 and 2 were fucking brilliant, and ff7 i played them both around the same time i loved them for diffrent reason's but the fact you could have such versatile amount of combat style made it great, i mean #1 was like 15 od character's and #2 i think had about 125, how good is that :D

well i bought my game for 50php ($1) i was so lucky it was the last copy!!I WANT MI PLAYSTAION 1 BACK AND MY SUIKO2!!(i let my friend borrow and since then he never returned my suiko 2 T_T never trust boys)
Arggg I wish this game was cheaper. I would buy it for $50 but don't want to spend 100. At least I got to beat it about 5 years ago.

Konami makes albums for all previous Suikoden titels constantly. (Such as celtic collections... or the last one "Rhapsodia - Privilege Music Collection" where you find titels from Suikoden II and also from Suikoden V. xD All Genso Suikoden Series Soundtracks are great!
