@Lucas Yeah definitely. Fortunately a clean, boxed copy runes around $30. Plus it'll work on every Playstation except the PS4.

The amount of people that heard about the Earthbound/Mother series was probably multiplied by 400 with the release of Melee. Also, if you get the chance, play Mother 3.
It's too bad none of the games were released outside of Japan, except for Earthbound that was released only in the US.
chinese manufacturers released carts with mother (nes) and mother 3 (gba) fan translations in therm. so far, mother works on a famicom clone without issue

At the very least, watch a Let's Play of a game from the series. Any by Chuggaaconroy will do nicely.

never played an earthbound game... probably never will. Didn't even know they existed until Melee. And I hate Ness to boot, even though that has absolutely nothing to do with his games. I dunno. I just don’t feel like bothering, no matter how wonderful the series may be.
I played a little Earthbound after Melee, but didn't get too into it. Not until Undertale came out.

Mother was too grindy. Luckily they suppressed a lot of it in Earthbound (with the too powerful, battle-less wins). But Mt. Itoi, oh gods...
@PaperMario15 I think EarthBound was the better game, but I agree that Mother has a bit more of that mystical feeling. It must have been very interesting to play when it came out
I always heard this song in SSBM and SSBB but it was never formally titled but when I heard this 8-bit jingle it was instantly familiar.

I'm going to have to disagree about Earthbound Zero being the weakest in the series. It may have been incredibly difficult, but it had a sort of simplistic, yet mystical feeling to it that was missing from the later two Mother games. This game has it's own, unique kind of charm.

Earthbound is awesome, with the must ****ed up final boss in history. Mother 3 is gaming perfection with the best and emotional ending ever.

Loved this theme. I actually liked the Brawl remix better though but this probably gains nostalgia points.

Also known as Earthbound Zero. It's easily my least favorite of the series but it still holds a special place. I loved Earthbound so much back when it released, I'll always remember the day I learned there was actually a prequel and I could play it with what was still a novelty: an emulator. The game kicked my butt with its difficulty but I still managed to finish it. It also felt nice to recognize some things from the second game, like some songs etc.
