Super Mario Sunshine is honestly my favorite game in the Mario franchise. Such a bright, colorful, sunny, and happy game. It's a real feel-good game, to me.

I agree, in principle it was about as good as 64. It's just the whole FLUDD thing... it just doesn’t fit mario. I mean it was a good game and all, but it just wasn't as 100% mario as I’m used to... guess that's why I don't like it quite as much.
I am soooo-soooooooo very sad that I wasn't able to reach this part of the game. I think I did, but never admired the music as much as I do now. I love SMSunshine music! :D

Sunshine is the best 3D Mario and Mario 64 is also awesome. Galaxy is to easy and missing the special Mario features like the "Bonus Rounds" in Sunshine.

It has no lyrics. Any lyrics that could be added could be on the subject of anything. Therefore they could technically be gruesome. The original though, nada.
There is no better song i can think of that would be better to listen to in the summer time.

Zelda wind waker, Metroid prime, and this game were the main three reasons I bought a Gamecube even though I was deep into PS2 games and Halo at that point. An unexpected gift of money was given to me so I bought a gamecube and these games.

By today's standards, SM64 sucks. The graphics induce eye bleeds, the camera is one of the worst ever in a 3D platformer and the controls will make you want a hang a small puppy.
Such an underrated game .... :(

I had to send my Wii in for repair last year. While it was away, I thought it would be a good time to play Mario Sunshine, since I never finished it back in 2002. I forgot all about this song. It was such a lovely surprise to re-discover it on the Noki Bay level. It will never be as good as Mario 64 but Sunshine is still a great game

@Zachary1869 Honestly I don't remember which is which, it's been quite some time since I've played. This discussion convinced me to get another copy, but the one I got from Gamestop didn't work. =.= Not sure where I put the receipt either. Blah.
@Zachary1869 Oh, true. Well, I think I played too much Mario Party, so the only challenge on the thumb was getting the stick to work properly.
@Zachary1869 Yeah, I'm not saying it was flawless. That's a good point. Also, the Sunshine boss was obviously silly, but I liked it anyway. The final fight always seems to be a cakewalk. That's just a Mario trademark, I guess. xD
@Zachary1869 No no, I am capable of keeping a level head in a harmless conversation. I just felt the opposite way; Galaxy left me wanting more because the levels were large and seemed so open with their space them, but there was little to actually do. And goodness, if by some possible chance you got lost, they conveniently placed Toad there to tell you which way was forward. >w>
@Zachary1869 Linearity was the basis of Mario in the beginning, yes, but it seems so much more limited when applied to the third dimension.
It's amusing to see people call this game gimmicky but praise the Wii. This is a superb game. It fine-tuned the physics of Mario 64, presented an original, entertaining and well-executed idea, featured amazing level design (and music, of course) and had a great world to explore, and that is far more than you can say about Galaxy, which was linearity to the extreme.

@charger619c Actually I believe it says in some encyclopedias that Super Mario Sunshine is a masterpiece and both Super Mario Galaxies are criminally overrated.
@SupraDarky Agreed. gets too boring after awhile. it's good for the first couple of levels, but after that it kinda treads on thin waters...it kinda reminds me of Spyro 2 and 3. sure it's fun at the beginning and has good music, but it just gets too boring to be interesting enough to finish...

@superluigi132 Last Level? That explains it. I only beat the 7 levels for each world needed to beat Super Mario Sunshine. I didn't do the additional levels. No wonder I don't remember the song.
In the Mario formula, this game is just as good as the rest. I think what people want to say is that it clearly isn't as groundbreaking as most of the greats in the series are identified for. It's still a good game. It's still fun. I never got to beat it, but I never had a GameCube.

Sunshine is in fact one of my favorite Mario games. It's weird and different, but that's a lot of why I love it. I collected every last Shinesprite save for like 3.
I really don't know why people don't like this mario. was the best one to me. you give the guy some innovative items to use, and give other characters some speech and all you get is hate hate. only part i didn't like about this game was blue coins, other than that, the game is great. fav mario game.
It might not be the best 3D Mario, but it's still a damn good game.

Probably the worst out of the 3D mario platformers(still really good though). One thing the other games could learn from Sunshine though, is it's difficulty. Man, this game was damn hard.
@CinemaZebra I enjoy Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, but you're more than right. This game was amazing in every way. Just like Mario 64. Pure, unadulterated fun.
This is a top contender for my favorite Mario game. Mario 64 and Paper Mario: TYD are both up there.

Just back from NYC, all caught up, continuing to love the choices and I have to agree with your opinion of this, least fav Mario(ok, you said 3d I say in general), but still fun. Speaking of Nintendo, any fans of the company, even if it is small and overpriced, you gotta visit Nintendo World. THEY HAVE KIRBY PILLOWS! And here's something we can all love...they play the best Nintendo system songs all day long. I'm standing there listenign to Gerudo Valley, Megaman, and actually #741 as I left!
