This song bring about melancholy, so it makes it easier to come to term with your feelings and express them. You're just sitting there, sad yet smiling, as if there is something inherently beautiful about been sad, a sense of happiness and comfort in facing and been overwhelmed by these dark thoughts you usually run from, and instead of been hurt by them like you usually do, you just bask in them, at peace. The observatory's song really does it's job.

I’m coming back to this many years later, so don’t mind me... I got this game when I was very young, probably no older than 7, sometime around 2010. I then proceeded to only get as far as the third boss before it was lost... I rebought it a few months ago. I played through it. It reminded me of so many sweet emotions, and it really meant a lot to me. I hope this game gets a remake, at least so more people appreciate it. This has always been the best soundtrack in the game to me, and easily in my top ten of all time. The peacefulness has gotten me through a lot. So thank you, Dragon Quest IX. You’ll always hold a special place in my heart.
Hated the multiplayer aspect, giving you only one character with a story and three walking clones. A big deception when you played DQ 8 and its memorable squad. But damn if this isn't the best DQ theme ever

Seriously, though; it blew me away the first time I played this game, so I was quite happy to keep talking to everyone in the Observatory more than once, as it meant I could listen to it for so much longer... 🎵✨😌✨🎵

For me it‘s not nostalgic or calming.. It just reminds me that we are all small humans in an giant universe. This little Track is so powerful. As a child i played this game for hours and felt every emotion in it. I was happy when i could help someone, sad when Catarrhina died and the thing interests me most is still the story of the world that the game put me in. If anywhere some angelic guy or woman can see this - i want to thank you And now the tracks over and i return into depressions reminding me constantly my only sense in living is going to school to make money to survive in an horrible world..

I have over 129 hours in this game and yet I have not seen everything. I love this game and the idea that you can get extra content and unlock new story parts by playing with others. I mean it is so cool if you can fly with the train over the map!

This is by far the most calming and relaxing OST I've ever heard. It's absolutely beautiful, and I cannot stop listening to it.
With a theme like this,I find it hard to believe it's impossible to return to the observatory after you beat the game.
You can hear this theme again in the secret room of the orion express (unlockable via a quest)

Which quest do I do?
First, it's a quest you have to "download" (it's not possible anymore to download it but you can still unlock it with cheat codes). Then you have to perform quests 146, 147, 148, 149, to access quest 150, and the secret room of the Orion express. There is a boss the first time you go in there, with around 5000 HP. It's a little long to do, but it's a real additional part of the scenario you will see, that way... I won't spoil you the rest ;)

lol i absolutely love this theme so much when i got up set i played dragon quest and stayed in the observatory to calm me down and to help me get thtough the tough times in life and that inspired me to look forward i life and enjoy it and now i have the most wonderful family and friends that support me alot ^-^ ive always admired dragon wuest alot and loved killing the legenary bosses with my brothers once me and my brother killed a boss called baramos just by using the slap ability yeah it eook a while but we killed it :D

I actually convinced some friends to buy this too, we're still friends and still talking about the game some when and talk about the beautiful music. We used the Co-Op mode sometimes, but it's kinda useless, but really cool. I still remember, one of the friends died because of dia-beate-s though, sitting in the apartment, cold's outside, with the Nintendo in the hand, playing with friends Dragon Quest 9, discussing about everything and being sad as fuck when we never be able to hear this very soundtrack never again, the more happier I'm now.

A sad story, indeed. My first copy of the game got melted in an oven by accident (hidden there by parents for the night; oven then got pre-heated) along with my first 3ds but anyway... this game's great, and it was massively important to me. I learnt what RPGs are and loved 'em. (nitrome's skywire was my gateway into the art form of video games at the age of 5 or something)

I never got to play the multiplayer mode which I was always sad about, cuz I have always wanted to but I got my game when they discontinued the online. Even sadder is that I was never able to get some of the items from the online store. But still Dragon Quest 9 has always been my favorite because it was my first dragon quest
TheMoonTribe depending on how old the firmware of your system is and if it has an sd card/ internet connectivity, you may just be able to modify it to unlock the content. That’s how I was able to see the Arceus event on my copy of Soul Silver

My Older Brother past away 4 years ago, and this and Minecraft were 2 of the last games we played together while he had cancer. I know exactly the feels man. I still have his old cartridge of Dragon Quest IX with his save on it right were he left it.

This game is still my favorite DS game, and one of my all time favorites all in all. I logged over 400 hours on it, and it was all so much fun! Evidently my friends and I are about to attempt a co-op play through, and I am so excited to try it!! :)

i have played this game its very fun and very exploritory if you are able to connect to internet on you ds you can get extra quest that for you to do after you beat it wich does not go on teh quest part but as extra quest. some of the outcomes allow you to go to special areas wich allows you to controll the starlight express and others is added characters i not going to say who you wouldn't expect one wich basically makes up for what happens during the story and after you start controlling the starlight express you can go back to the final dungeon and defeat corvus again if you so pleased

I have been meaning to get into the DQ series, and I actually just picked up DQ8 a week ago. I have heard great things about this series, and hopefully DQ10 being an MMO doesn't do what FFXI did to my favorite series of all time... Don't get me wrong, I thought 13 was a decent game (12 was not for me). But everything after X kinda went downhill

i didnt realize how hard this game was with nobody else to help u i didnt figure out how to add party members until the end of the game i had to use cheats to get past that owl guy ugh he's a pain in the ass
I actually cried when I returned to the Observatory after... Aquila's little "incident" with the Gittish Empire. I loved the Observatory, and one of the saddest parts of the ending was no more of it. I also agree, I would totally replay the game, but I don't want to actually start over or anything.

The ending actually made me cry.All the celestians ascend to heaven where they belong and you'll never see them again and the observatory disappears forever.
Fortunately we can listen to this music on YouTube without starting the game again

@manmariotoya Same! I got into DQ from playing DQ IV for the DS when it came out, as I wanted to see if it was any good - I was amazed at the incredible storyline, the music was a huge bonus though. DQ IX is so far a game that has kept me on tenterhooks every step of the way.

@ARGCi The multiplayer isn't really the game's main draw. Sure, it's optimized for it, but if one is going solo, like I did, its more of a nice addition rather than something that would detract from the game if one is not using it.

I'd have gotten this right now, but I'm flat broke. OK, that's a lie, but I don't want to irresponsible and spend all my hard earned money as soon as I've gotten(just got PS3, and 3 games with it). I'm probably gonna pick it up eventually(my usual complaints with the DQ series all vanish by the mere fact it's portable/handheld), just not right now. BUT I do have to say, this track is making it a bit of a temptation.

For those wondering, it's probably best to just start on this game, then after finishing it, go back and play the previous ones. If anyone's the least bit interested in this game, go buy it! This game is definitely one of the best.

I haven't played a DQ game since DQ8 came out...I think it's time for another shot at the series.
And I'm back from another small trip. I bought this game since I'm a DQ fan and I'm loving it so far after just a few hours. It feels good to be playing a DQ again; there are some new stuff but as long as I can still fight slimes, equip my Pot Lid and listen to some Sugiyama greatness, everything is fine.
