Beyond epic, this is... Well this is one of the best game songs out there!
out of all these staff themes ive heard for mario kart the n64 version is still the best by far! i get a different feeling from this one then any of the other themes (no not just nostalgia) almost like the game is happy you beat it and now this song is your reward for beating it. same goes for sm64 too.
When I heard this song's remix in Chuggaaconroy's Let's Play of Super Mario Sunshine, I think I cried tears of joy. Two of the most nostalgic games for me <3

My favorite ending credit song to all the Mario Kart games. No one can deny that this song is legendary to the Mario Kart franchise. Such a great finishing song to a great accomplishment.

This truly is one of the best ending themes ever made. I have never played Earthbound, so I cannot say whether it compares or not, but only this and the FFX ending theme has given me such emotions. (MGS4 is also quite good, but it disqualifies as it has had a build-up from 3 earlier games)

Haven't played this game - is it good? Mario Kart on SNES and DS were just plain awesome, but the Wii one was absolutely terrible.
I would have to disagree, many games are FPS's and such, but many are still focusing on story, take Phoenix Wright by Capcom, brilliant story and music, many DS games nowadays like Ghost Trick focus little on guns and such, many games and companies still have their touch. Incidentally if you didn't know, Capcom are making Miles Edgeworth Ace Prosecutor 2.
Good ol childhood, as kid of the 90s i know that this was the best, the games and their music had this special soul, which draws you in, most games nowadays have kinda lost this soul.
this song still gives me goosebumps. it's nostalgia overload at its finest.
So classic. Seriously, why is Mario Kart 64 so good? The future ones could never really recapture that epic feeling again.

@TheRandomDragon01 It's not all people who think that way. Many others feel the same way as you, myself included. Personally, I hate Halo and Modern Warfare. I'd rather avoid the online gaming world of angry, homophobic teenagers. I disagree with you that games are getting worse and worse, though; Sure, the SNES and N64 eras were the golden age of gaming, but the Wii has some phenomenal games on it. Super Mario Galaxy, anyone?
@TheRandomDragon01 I agree, my friends also do not care for their old games. They even sell them to game stop to buy newer games for their xbox 360. Even though people do not care for the wii anymore, I still do and I know nintendo is going to be king of video games again.

@SupraDarky Just checked. It isn't. Only SMB2 overworld and SMB3 overworld have been added from the NES games. One question though - is your list already made? And if so, how many songs do you plan on posting?
@SupraDarky #700's coming up soon, gotta have something in the top-level of epicness for that. Mind you, I think SMB 1-1 should be saved for #1000, or #999, or something like that.

when i'm in the right mood, i almost cry to this song. it's too much nostalgia for me to handle. it's also easily my favorite theme from the mario kart series.

Another excellent song added to the list! This song heralded the credit theme songs of the other Mario Karts, each of which are equally good, but this one is the best, and shall be remembered as such.
@CloudStrifeEX Yeah I know, this sure brings back memories when almost anyone who had this game watched and played the amazement of the gameplay in Mario Kart 64. Now all games we have played are really the most cherished moments in our video game lives. We all know how fun it was to play these games. Now it is the future and more games have improved their quality. In other words, time passes by.
Excellent choice. I have a lot of affection in Super Mario 64's Staff Roll. This one is quite epic, too. Just as I'd expect. I feel it is fairly rare to find a game that makes you feel good that you beat it, when you get to hear the staff roll music. That is not a good thing. But it makes me cherish the ones I know!

@SupraDarky haha I know I'm just messing with ya man. The list would be kind of boring if all of the "greatest songs ever" were within the first 20. and it seems to be working for ya, as you've almost breached 700! congrats!
@64person I've already explained this previously but since people keep saying this when I post very popular VGMs, I'll explain again. You guys have to understand that I'm purposely holding off on those songs because I want to space them out throughout the list. So a song like this one making the list at #693 is actually something I try to achieve. It keeps everything more interesting. I'm pretty sure even Super Mario Bros' main theme hasn't been added yet. ;)
Yay! This is my favorite song from this game! XD My own favorite game in the series is Double Dash, I actually loved the gimmick, and was dissapointed when they took the double kart off.

This is so epic. ALMOST too epic for Mario Kart itself! (uh oh, here come the thumbs down). Don't get me wrong, Mario Kart 64 is epic, but...this is a very empowering song. This feels like it could have been at the end of a zelda or kingdom hearts game XD. (Seriously though...Mario Kart rocks)
I haven't played 64 in a long time. Not sure how it holds up today. Yeah, DS is my favorite. I hope the next one is for the 3DS, with online play that's just as good as MKW's. (Asking for too much?)

The game I've played the most in this series by far. Had some awesome time with friends as a kid. I do have to say the DS version is probably the ultimate one though, I love that one as well.
