The only thing I can hear when this is playing is the 'wheop' sound of a healing spell being used.
The only thing and I mean the only thing I didn't particularly like about this game was the walking speed in the overworld and towers/dungeons/caves. They at least could've sold you some Sprint Shoes or something to make you walk faster. I know there are hacks that make it to where you can, but to me not fooling around with something in some cases is better, but this is not one of those cases.
Especially with how enormous and maze-like some of the game's dungeons are, the walking speed becomes your worst enemy. Well, that and the lack of save points in dungeons that can take an hour to get through only to die to a boss at the end.
Walking speed wasn't that bad to me...the ultra high encounter rate was though.
My main complaint is that game's plot just moves WAY too slow. Just when it's about to pick up steam, you get bogged down in fetch quests or have to complete a random task that's off the beaten path before proceeding. After a while, it's simply INFURIATING. The music, after all these years, still kicks ass though :)
Can you enter this cave through another entrance so you can supervise our work on the bridge from that ledge over there?
Reminds me the first time I fought against revived Gades, I was like "Holy shit!". I didn't know I was supposed to lose until the battle ended.

@Christian McNellie I still play my NES to this day, so that's not something I need to try very hard to remember (although nowadays I usually clean them properly since I know better).

@Christian McNellie One night a few years ago, one of my cousin's sons was staying the night. He pointed at my NES on my dresser and asked, "What's that?" Granted it made perfect sense because of his young age (he was only like 6 or 7), it was still one of the hardest to hear questions anybody has ever addressed to me.
@gurvmlk It was because he is very young. Don't take it so hard, you're just getting older. I get it, he probably doesn't know how hard most videogames used to be either.

"Stereo Sound" used to be a point of pride.
When I was young, I used to think it was awesome when a game or movie would be in stereo, and I didn't even know what stereo was. All I knew is that it was better than mono, so I got excited over it.
When I had originally watched the final seasons (re-runs?) of MacGyver as a wee lad, I saw that those in charge of the show put up a notification of "In Stereo where available." Now, I pay attention to see if a *video game* supports 5.1 or even 7.1 sound...which was once only a feature of big Hollywood productions 8-^D.
I didn't even know 7.1 was a thing. Every time I think of 5.1 though, I can't not hear that loud, horn-like sound that would always play at the theatre when the Dolby logo popped up before the movie. You'd hear that, and be like, "Shit just got amazing."

Anybody have any idea why the cover says "Battle in the Opening Story!" ?
Because the first part of the game, you're controlling the original heroes just before their final fight against the Sinistrals.

It's similar to the beginning of Tales of Phantasia, except in this case you control the characters.
You basically play the prologue. Most games it would be a cinematic. But this is one of the first RPGs (that I can think of) which allows you to take control of the character's in the prologue.

Problem being that it resulted in the literal first 10 minutes of the game totally spoiling the sequel's ending. Makes me glad I played Lufia 2 first.
sucks that a lot of great rpg games on the snes, were never released here in Europe. =( the only way to play them on a snes is to get an adapter, or to play on emulator.
It's not put in the clearest way, but it's referring to how at the start of the game, you get to take part in a climactic battle against the Sinistrals, as opposed to having to level grind to even go into the first dungeon. While the game got boring for me soon after the actual game began, that was a nice touch that set it apart from other RPGs.
Unlike previous RPGs this one includes a battery-backup system! Fun series, no doubt.
Most RPGs from that time and before had a battery backup system I think. I know Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior did for sure, and those are NES games.

The only Jrpg where my all my characters have some kind of eye problem and can't focus all attacks on one mob if it is standing next to a similar one...!#$!#^

@plasmix Yeah, pretty much. I guess it was pretty unique *at the time* of it's release, so they had to make a big deal out of it.

I LOVED THIS THEME!! I didn't like the Main Battle theme so much, but I always waited to get into a boss fight to hear this theme.

Ah, this brings me back. Lufia represents how good most SNES RPGs were, or still are for that matter.

@plasmix Spoiler Alert: You start the game right off the bat at the end of Lufia 2 (which is a prequel), where you fight the four Sinistrals and then the combined form...if I recall correctly.
No, the combined form is only fought in the final battle. Maxim's party only fought the 4 Sinistrals

Some thoughts: This song has 3 strains, 2 of which are the same. So you might say the structure is AAB. Does anyone get the feeling like the song should continue at 1:04 into a 4th strain? (AABC) Lufia 2's boss battle theme is also divided into 3 strains, ABC. As with Lufia 1's, I get the feeling that it's too short. Seriously, 3 strains? How weird is that? But, Lufia 2's 3rd strain actually resolves, and leads into the 1st strain well. It's also a much more interesting theme than Lufia 1's.
