Damn. Alberto's tracks always had some deep bass and heavy beats. At a sound design level, he managed tri percussion in an unbeatable way, and made the great choice of keeping the triangle high enough like to be hearable, but also low enough like to actually sound bassy; but also he composed the beats and the bass to be driving, and in cases like this, funky as hell. And let's not forget that each one of his tracks had strong, catchy melodies. His music was actually the most melodious of all of the european composers. Surprisingly enough, he never had any considerable knowledge of music theory. He said he just followed his instinct when composing. And what an instinct, I must admit. I wish I could compose as many well-crafted, memorable tracks as him.

Asterix is apparently a pretty popular comic book character in France (and is perhaps popular in Quebec too!). But he's largely unknown in the US, which is probably why the game was never released here. :(
The English translation is pretty popular here in the UK.
Yes, I've heard. I never assume that the United States is the end-all and be-all of English language popularity because of stuff like that!

It's a shame really. I would've loved to know about Asterix when I was younger :v None of my pals in Western Canada seem to know about it either, though
"Pretty popular" is under-selling it by quite a bit. He's probably the most well-known character in french Bande Dessinées.

@artman40 That sound is a result of a common trick used to simulate chords in sound systems that don't support them, most famously the SID chip.
@Arwingpilot Funny thing is that those developers who had experience with home computers, had NES music sound like that. Examples include Codemasters.

@garfreeek chip and dale 1 is rather well known, even the HVGN had a review about the games, so i assume the US did get them.
@BenBenjiro i'd say it's as popular as the smurfs game, but do they know that one ^_^ I believe the aladin and lion king game had about as many fans as this. did the americans get to play chip n dale 1+2? that was awesome too =D

@nanhuazhenren Let me put it this way...when asking people what games they played on NES...odds are they'll mention 'Super Mario Brothers 3', 'The Legend of Zelda', 'Mega Man 2' and 'Contra.' Odds are not many will mention Asterix. It's not meant to be an offense to Asterix.
