Here in 2020! Bandai have said that a Remaster of these classics would not be profitable. I hope one day they will change their mind, the Xeno series is only growing in popularity.

when you think about it due to episode 3 having to wrap up all it's plot points quickly due to the series being compressed. it technically has two final bosss themes. this being the first.

Haha, how did I know this was composed by Yuki Kajiura? I've been on this track a few times and thought it couldn't possibly be her because I didn't think she did video games, but I couldn't shake the feeling that she composed this because the style is so reminiscent of her material. And it turns out, guess she does.

The year is 2018, Namco has hd remade the Dark Souls trilogy (which was already in hd) and Xenosaga (the best game(s) ever) still haven't been remade in hd

It takes special people to make a game like this, and an arrogant director to constantly fuck it up for them. Tetsuya Takahashi and Soraya Saga have tried to tell this story twice through this medium, and both times they got shafted, despite the end product still being the best four games in all of existence.

In my opinion the Xeno games (including Gears and Blade) literally devour Final Fantasy in terms of pretty much everything.
You can not really compare them since they are strongly different in construction and in story telling. It's just a different vision and message that is sent. Maybe you can compare FFXII with Monado on some points but that's all. But hell yeah Xeno series is really awesome if you like awesome and complex stories !

No way. I played the first xenosaga and only a small bit of the second. No way can it compete with FF. Not saying its a bad game by any means but no way near FF good.

Xenogears is my least favourite from the series, and IMO not as good as FFVII (the one it's most often compared to). It was a great game, but so obviously rushed. The second disc was almost insulting. And the translation was iffy at best (though that can also be said of FFVII). Xenosaga and Xenoblade are masterpieces, though.

Alan Peralta Yasunori Mitsuda and Motoi Sakuraba are excellent contenders compared to Nobuo. Listen to Chrono Cross's or Xenoblade 2's ost for Mistuda. And Baten Kaitos OST for Motoi. (Imo Mitsuda is the best composer. He is a god.)
Xenogears is definitely the best in the Xeno-series. And all of the Xeno games are far better than FF1-12 imo.
The same goes to the Shadow Hearts series.
You got to love that this boss is a mirror image of Deus even on a musical level. It carries the same "This is it" feel. Zarathustra was weak compared to this.
I don't think you can really compare the two, since they are both in their own subset. The main over-arching issue I have with the Xenosaga trilogy is that the pacing seemed a bit... 'rushed', for lack of a better term. Otherwise, they were splendid games, and I still revisit Episode III from time to time.
@rsmith137 I know it's a matter of opinion and all that stuff.... But personally Xenogears was on a whole different level from FFVii. I have never been that mindblown by a game's story until I played Xenogears.

All the Xeno games seem to be a bit rushed, or missing content. Disc 2 from Xenogears, The 3 other Xenosaga games, The bionis shoulder that was cut and probably half of the main story of Xenoblade X (Just a theory). It's a proof that Takahashi still has a ton of ambition while creating his games! yet I want to know the end of X! the story bearly started to pick up! I can't waiiit!
@rsmith137 Judging a book by it's cover. Every xenosaga blows ff7. To Xenogears ff7 is nothing but child. The only final fantasy that beats xenosaga and gears is ff6.

This should had been the final battle. Am I the only one who thinks that Dmitri Yuriev would had worked better as the main villain instead of that midget?
Margulis is my favorite, but the Yuriev finale was one of those great moments in the game, up through the battle. It did seem a bit rushed how it ended, however; I wanted Yuriev to acknowledge the Testaments and possibly Wilhelm and wonder wtf was going on.
@MoonJung82 The whole 3rd game in that series was basically an attempt to close off a story that had been planned to have at least another 3 or so games. They originally planned out 5 titles (I believe?), and Episode I and II were actually split apart from what was intended to be a single game. That's why the last few hours of Xenosaga Episode III is basically nothing but boss fights with every villain they had introduced up until that point.
@Azshmo 6 were planned but after II, they had to scrap parts 4, 5 and 6 and cram what they could into 3.
@LightKnyght hmm, but I'm not sure whether that's before or after I and II were split apart. Like was it planned as 5 and then I was split into 2 games, making it into 6?
@Azshmo Actually from what I read, this game was gonna be the last using these characters and then the next one would take place many years in the future

Takahashi did say around the time that 3 came out that he would be interested in returning to the series in 10 years and it's been about 9 years. Even though Monolith Soft is owned by Nintendo they're on good terms with Namco Bandai, so it's a possibility

@The42gamer Exactly. Xenosaga Ep.IV should have been a retelling of Xenogears set on Earth, featuring the new incarnations of Abel and Nephilim as protagonist. Shion's story ends with III.
+lix Axil I would say he was the villain of the story; he (along with Voyager) were the only truly evil individuals in the series, who cared for no one and was looking to gain for his own means, not even his children provoked any feelings from him. Wilhelm was the main antagonist, but his purpose was a good one, to save humanity but because he was immortal, he instigated conflicts to entertain himself.
+Azshmo They planned 6 games, but after the first didn't perform as well as they expected they had to cut down the series. After the 2nd game flopped, it was all but assured to end with the 3rd game.
I agree this should have been the final battle...on the Eldritch, right after a fight against Omega Res Novae, in which they liberate Abel from the machine. Then Yuriev unites an embryonic Metempsychosis with the Zohar giving it it's true form, Deus. Abel then wilfully climbs inside the Res Novae, turning it into an imperfect Xenogears. Deus proceeds to infect Razael central and take over the ship, however Abel, Shion, and KOS MOS are able to wound Deus, forcing it to abandon its immediate plans of boarding the Merkabah. In a financial act of vengeance, it uses Zohar to release U-DO which absorbs Shion into the higher dimension, and kills the others, even chaos. Their fate to be reincarnated on the new planet below due to Zarathustra, Deus bides its time with the intent to activate the song of Nephilim and turn the lambs of the new Jerusalem into gnosis to be consumed as fuel so that it can finally ascend and go on to consume planet after planet. In this way it hopes to gain the power to enter the higher dimension on its own and control all existence. In Xenogears we see the final incarnation of Abel, Fei finally destroy Deus using the perfect power of Zohar. However, it still leaves the Zarathustra, which I believe KOS MOS and possibly Shion would come back to help destroy in episodes beyond Xenogears. Also I believe Krellian is the incarnation of chaos.
I think the midget would have been great if you actually fought him instead of just dealing with the consequences of his out-of-control toys.

Because they actually were related. Xenosaga was meant to be a prequel actually to Xenogears. Xenogears would have been something like number 6 in the series had Xenosaga not been ended.
One of the best boss battle theme music in an RPG. Real shame that this was played very low during the battle...sound engineer probably messed it up.

I'm not saying the game is not good. Just that the OST far exceeds the game. And as a spiritual successor to Xenogears it was pretty lacking as a game anyway. The first part was great but episodes 2 and 3 did not live up to it.

One of my favorite RPGs of the last generation. Unlike most games with their "All's Well That Ends Well", this game's story has a nice balance between good and bad/sad moments and that's what makes the story so memorable.
