That was my favorite scene in SMBZ, and to me the moment where it started to get really good.
RIP the little girl with the chalk. I still can't believe the game actually had the balls to kill her off.

Best atmosphere of any game I've ever played, never been drawn in quite like this.
This soundtrack caused me to buy and complete the game, which I otherwise might never have heard of.
Love Love Love this game. Good non-obvious track choice. This is a really good moody track. Gave me a great feel for the feeling of oppression and hopelessness that hangs around Lower Valua.
if the more superficial people could just look past the Dreamcast graphics. i bet this would have been so much more well known and popular outside the minority that has actually experienced the game. one of the most memorable rpg games of all time for me.. since this was the first game to introduce me to the genre itself. maybe it's time to see if my old GC still works :D
I think it was at this point in the game where the prospect of being in way over my head began to set in. Valua City was the point of no return.
While this track sometimes moves me to tears (all I can think about is that little girl wondering what "white bread" is like, because all she's ever eaten is hard, black bread.), I don't really think it's all that nice to listen to. It's perfect for it's setting, and did it'd job better then I thought possible... but I don't like it. Probably because it represents poverty so strongly to me.

butchered is harsh but in comparison the DC is better than the GC.
there was plenty of competition on GC in terms of RPGs. phantasy star online ep I & II was one of the best games i've ever played
Not to be a whore but Thumbs up if you noticed this was used in Super Mario Bros Z. 8 That said I really am loving this game so far and probably one of the best tracks in the game yet.

@21MegaYoshi Opinion, my friend. Opinion! Personally, I liked Symphonia a lot. But even if it was one of the best Tales games...it was just a Tales game. The same old orphans, the same old magic trees, the same old clichés. Many things in Skies of Arcadia sucked. The fighting was uninteresting, for one. ( Note that I am talking about the technically superior Dreamcast version, not the GC one ). But the characters, story, environments and music just made my heart smile. It really did.
I know I'm korny...but I'm a hardcore Skies of Arcadia fan...I rmbr this city and this music fits the scenery so well...you feel the lost hope and the sadness in it....beautifuly put together game that I think still rivals some of the new RPG's today

My only problem with Valua was that you couldn't explore more of it. This mainly goes for Upper Valua.

Is there a similar song that plays like this to anyone's knowledge. I don't why but when i heard it on the 3rd anniversary tribute I automatically knew the part at 0:51 to 1:01. Never even heard/played this game.

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one, I really dislike the Gamecube version's 'tinny' sound, that has no-where near as much impact and depth as the Dreamcast original.
Lower City Valua was an awesome place. I wish you could've visited more of the Upper City as well. Great music though, really emotive

honestly i think people critic it way to harshly. i have listened to both sound tracks and i find i like some on the gamecube a lot more than i did on the dreamcast
If you're getting the Gamecube version, I'm afraid the music won't be nearly as good as this... its soundtrack is butchered. Bloody irriatating.
