I never knew of the dark themes this game had back when I was younger. Playing it now, said themes make me love this game even more. This game will always be in my heart.

Got this game for 15 bucks... My favorite Game of all time.
Today, I played this game for the first time (not emulated) in over 6 years. When I started to think about the story, I realized that behind the curtains of this cute little robot game, the story is outstandingly dark (and this was surprisingly a GameCube exclusive). I will never forget this title, and I will never stop loving it either. Chibi Robo: Plug into Adventure is the darkest game from Nintendo, as of January 2017.

The remaining (Abandonment, obviously) is the only I might possibly consider equal to surviving a rape, witnessing a murder, or being a victim of torture. Even that, however, if dealt with properly early enough (getting the child/victim to a good home, ample psychological help, etc.) can be rendered almost a non-issue.

the story of a robot that wanted to make others happy... he lived every day, doing all he could to bring joy to those he loved, and to learn what they loved, so that he could be a part of the greatest thing to ever happen in their lives... then one day, the robot saved the lives of 4 aliens, who had crashed down in an unnatural ship... the aliens offered him 2 wishes for his kindness... his fist wish, was that the things that gave the family joy, the toys, could have souls... so that they could live and dream and hope just like the family that cherished the joy the toys could give them... his second wish, that the aliens would change who he was made to be on the inside, so that his needs would no longer hurt those he loved... but there was no more balls of light on the ship... so he accepted this. he didn't get angry, or upset... he instead, willingly submitted to death... so that he could no longer hurt those he cared about... and in time, his will and hope was answered. he was restored by another. another that was just like him. another who lived and loved those around him, and who had endured much hardship in his trials to restore both family and kin. and he got his wish. his needs would no longer hurt those he cared about, nor would the needs of his kin ever need to harm their loved ones ever again. such dedication and care goes far beyond mere programming. machines are cold, and efficient in design, the slightest waste becoming recycled and perpetuated... because of this, we can know that there was a life, a soul, inside him all along. and that his soul was good... because he didn't submit. he didn't turn cold... he didn't recycle and turn new again... he left something very important. he left memories. memories that refused to forget long after they were forgotten... never forget. never loose that which is good inside of you.

@Gelatop People including usually well accepted media played maybe five minutes of this game and thought it was just about cleaning without any kind of real story. I think Gameinformer had a strongly negative article on it as well a few years back. The game is just so deep and amazing but most people just never really bothered with it unfortunately and that is why it never got that many fans D:

Chibi Robo was a dark game, man. The Sandersons' marriage was falling apart, they had constant money problems, Jenny had some kind of developing mental disorder, Giga Robo 'died' and needed to be brought back to life, even the toys didn't have the best life with the eggs waging constant battle with Tao and Plankbeard missing his boat and taking up drinking.
I know it’s been 6 years but I was playing the game and I discovered that if you talk to Jenny with the frog suit she actually talks to you and tells you how the evil frog wizard cursed her... it’s a weird story but considering that there are talking toys it doesn’t seem so weird
Jenny mostly gets over the frog thing by the time Chibi Robo Clean Sweep rolls around, although her family has problems of its own.
he NEEDS to be in the next super smash bros. the problem is he's so tiny. they could super size him like olimar. and his smash would be he plugs into someones head and drains his percent into them. then you simply rack up a bunch of percents and use your smash and BAM! you have 0% and they have your percent plus what they already had. i would like always play as chibi robo.

Saying no doesn't really make sense to what I said in my comment but whatever. I think I might have seen that game on a screwattack top 10 countdown back when I use to watch those. I'll try to find it once I've finished some other game I haven't beat.

Back when I was seven, my parents offered to buy me a gamecube for my birthday. Obviously, I took up the offer, but when I was faced with the choice of which games to buy, I was dumbfounded. I then remembered a game that I had tried out at one of those demo stations they used to have at Target. I remembered how the game went unloved. So I bought the game, and when I got to this part, I cried. But I vowed that I would help Giga-Robo, and I played my way through to the end. I still own the game.
I was seven when I got my Gamecube too. This guy opened my eyes to so many different things.

Thanks to the great budget I have for making these videos, I added a very expensive effect to reflect the song playing. But seriously, this is a pretty sad song in the game. You meet Giga-Robo for the first time, abandoned and not working anymore, then it plays when you see its memories back when it used to be part of the home's family, playing with the kids etc. Quite memorable.
