@TheDisfigured can't agree more...There is a reason why i still go back and play my NES/SNES/Gen etc where now games i enjoy are few and far between. what is worse, imo, is so many companies are catering towards the casual game players that when a truly challenging game comes along it gets terrible scores for being too "brutally difficult and punishing".

I guess I misinterpreted you then. I don't mind FPS games, but I just don't play them that often. I do see what you mean though. I play plenty of modern games as well as oldies. Plus I'm not really too big into any one genre, except maybe RPGs and Fighting games. :P
That''s not what makes you a hardcore gamer though. What makes you a hardcore gamer is broadening your horizons. Playing more then just shooting games. I would consider a hardcore gamer of this age someone who plays a bit of Call of Duty there, a bit of fl0wer here, some Marvel vs Capcom, God of War, Shadow of the Colossus. It's about having a variety. Not about Being old school. Call of Duty, Halo, and UFC take no brain power what so ever. In some terms, you are correct, to them it is a hobby.

This soundtrack is outstanding. I love every track, but stage 5 is by far my favorite. I think that's the reason I practiced it so much.

A good sign of a hardcore gamer?I'd say about 100 games and you're a candidate for hardcore gamer.Another sign is if amongest those games are plenty of geat games that no one knows about like this. I'd consider myself one.Been into games since I was 2,I've played well over 500 games and still own over half of them,the majority of them no one I know seems to know but when you check into them they're classics(Battletoads for example),and owning every system to date.Let's see Guitar boy top that!
I've been gaming since I was 5. The first game system I ever had was a SNES. When I talk about some awesome oldies like EarthBound, Paper Mario 1, and Kirby's Adventure, only like my best friend knows what the hell I'm talking about. T_T

You know, I have coworkers who are "hardcore" videogamers who dont even know who battle toads, OR double dragon is. They only play Halo, UFC, and Call of Duty... It's a fucking shame...
