Silent Hill always leaves me with this feeling of disturbance (shivers). Very good game and I agree with Postmita, it's the stuff that you hear and don't see and can only imagine that makes it even more creepy. I never finished either because of fear *hhis*.
could never finish this game. I got too scared to play by myself when I was in that abandoned office building and could hear squatters or someone walking around but never saw them. Then there was that body in the water under a bridge and when I went and flipped a switch and came back over the bridge the body was gone. I think that's why this and 2 were so scary was the stuff that you couldn't see but imagined was out to get you.
@hotcarl84 I couldnt agree more. Music makes a game as it makes some movies. FF13 is 1 of my fave FF's for its incredible soundtrack
This game really didn't have much music, which adds to the tension whenever music actually starts playing: You're just expecting something to happen that most probably never actually comes. The first 3 SH games were amazing (Coming from someone who usually hates horror games/movies/books/whatevers with a passion), the rest were mediocre to bad.
@tangramman He did the same thing with Love Psalm, which I found hard to like because of it, but once you get used to it, it's a fabulous song as well. This is one is more actual ambient, and I find that ambient music rarely leads anywhere so it feels easier to accept somehow, than it was with Love Psalm which is rock-based.
This almost has a sort of Portishead vibe to it. I like it.

I'm actually really suprised that you haven't had any songs from Silent Hill 4: The Room or "Fermata in Mistic Air" from the Silent Hill 2 OST.

SupraDarky this is bothering me. I swear you had another Silent Hill song on your list besides this and "A Stray Child". It had singing in it and the end of the song ended like it was cut off mid sentence. You're help finding the song would be greatly appreciated!

I love his work too, especially You're Not Here and Laura's Theme. I went to Play! A Video Game Symphony hoping to hear some of his work; the orchestra apparently had no time to rehearse it. D: Hopefully I'll get my fill at Video Games Live.
Yamaoka is definitely one of the best VG music composers. His work on the Silent Hill series is simply outstanding.

I like how it builds up and builds up, yet doesn't really lead anywhere. Gives the listener a false sense of normalcy, which was probably Yamaoka's intention.

Oh, now I see (or hear) why people say the Silent Hill music is so good. Catches that spooky dark ambience but is still very catchy with that funky drum beat. Really should play the games sometime :p
