I love this soundtrack, is stands as one of my favorites to this day. I listen to it at work when I'm repairing computers mostly. The atmosphere of it....I can really focus on my work with this playing in the background....must be from the hundred of hours I spent with the game. I get shit done when this plays. hehe

Ah, Diablo.... This was the first hardcore game I ever played, having watched my dad play it and finally, after a month or so, being able to play it. For me, Diablo always will represent being confronted with fears (the arachnids deserving...special mention), seeing things happen to people that just shouldn't even be thought of, and doing everything in your power to make sure others don't have to face this, too. This track sums all that up nicely.
All these years later, it still creeps me out.
For me, Diablo's soundtrack is the best ever composed, every track fits perfectly with the ambience, especially this one (caves) and the one of the monastery/ catacombs levels. Oh, and of course the two tracks of Act 4. I simply love this game!
What made both Diablo games great is that because of the great ambient music and the crazy numbers of enemies you're fighting you really DO feel that you're down in the creepy, creepy caves combating against the endless hordes of Hell. It's all very happy and upbeat, really.
Can we say this is an example of ambient gaming music excellece? If so, I say that. Right now... This is an example of ambient excellence!

You can edit your offline characters with certain programs, that's why.
Perhaps because you can use cheats, and it'd get ridicously easy if your offline characters were online characters aswell. I mean, almost everybody is using cheats online (such as map hack), let alone offline.
My favorite was always the music it plays right before you fight Baal and it has that sweet trumpet music.

I totally reinstalled Diablo 2 after hearing the Tristram track earlier on this monster playlist. Which reminds me, was there some reason they seperated the online and offline characters? I always assumed it was because offline you could use cheats or something (as in Starcraft) but I recently discovered that you cannot (I don't use them so I hadn't bothered checking until now). Anyone know why I can't take my online character offline to prevent it from expiring?

I can agree with you there. Actually, I have been thinking about installing it and playing it again. This game is just seriously addicting. You can play it over and over again, and it never gets old. Well, that's my opinion anyway.
Each time I hear something bout Diablo, I always remember this quote from the 1st game : HMMM... FRESH MEAT!!!! It's a good franchise, and Blizzard always have great soundtracks. Cant wait for D3

Diablo always had great atmospheric music. Nothing that really stood out, but it wasn't supposed to stand out. It always worked well for what it was supposed to do.
