I was listening to this in the background and I could immediately tell it was an Enix game. Song sounds like it came straight out of early Star Ocean games.
Sounds more like the DW1 overworld to me. Go figure, same composer.

I used to play this at like 11 or 12. It was VERY advanced when You think about the concept. Well before it's time
Better than spore, too. Spore had a more advanced creature creation system, but it's gameplay was utter shit. Evo, on the other hand... Well, the enemies were so easy they aren't worth mentioning, but the bosses were pretty tough, hence fun.

Also: I loved how the final confrontation between Earth's two most perfect beings ended up being a sabertooth donkey-lizard-bird with antlers versus a series of floating orbs arranged in a circle. :P

About 4 years ago at a flea market, I spent 30 bucks on a SNES system that came bundled with this game. I don't think the guy knew he had about 80 dollars just in this game alone. Like many of you have said, playing this game is a truly unique experience. The concept behind it, coupled with the storyline and the beautiful music is just... not very common in games. This is a true masterpiece.
I just recently got myself a copy of this game. I never heard about it before until I saw it in a list of some of the rarest and most valuable snes games and damn, I can't believe I never heard about it before, it's so addicting!
This game is so underappreciated. This teaches vital lessons about evolution such as the fact that horns always break off after 3 charges.
I'd kill for a new 2-D E.V.O.

This game was so great, one of my favorite games from Enix. Just feeding and watching my little cannibal fish grow into a beaver and then a club wielding marauding human was so much fun. It made it feel special every time I played it.

That was an awesome game back in the days. I really enjoyed it. The Boss theme was really good and was my favorite music from this game.

E.V.O is a blast. I played it on my emulator a few months ago. This was one of the best tracks I heard on it. ...too bad, I STILL can't beat the final boss -_-

Classic Sugiyama music, just like his work on Dragon Quest. Can't mistake him! By the way, it looks like the fmt=18 thing will be gone since the HQ version automatically loads now. :) Makre sure you click on that HQ button, or have it defaulted in the account options.
Few interactive titles have had the kind of turn-around in terms of playability that this one had. By which I mean it took the test of time quite miserably.
