I'll never forget my first reaction to this theme. Seeing that fabulous looking robot dinosaur, hearing this theme start blaring, just, what? Hunh? Then slowly but surely jamming out to it. It's cheesy, but it's the kind of cheese I CRAVE. I absolutely adore this game.

I know it was kind of a niche game, but I loved Blue Dragon so much. Partly it was the Toriyama's art style, but it was also so charming. I especially loved the snowy areas, they were so comfy. I even watched some of the anime. Always wanted to play the dev's other RPG, Last Odyssey, but never got a chance. Please for the love of god I want a remake of that game.

I think the problem with this song is that, as much as the band tries with the keyboards, this is WAY too fast to pass as a Deep Purple song. Ian Gillan almost feels out of element here, and yeah, a metal vocalist would probably fit better. I actually thought of Biff Byford, this theme is almost Purple meets Saxon.

I played and beat this game many years ago... And the only thing I remember about it is this music. The story must have been so uninteresting that my brain completely erased it. So when I first played Blue Dragon and this music hit on the first boss I was absolutely shocked. I was talking to someone online and thought they were playing a weird song, took off my headset and even went on to check through my small house to make sure. Once i discovered it was in fact the boss music I was laughing while saying "What the fuck man?" I was amazed that the music changed so completely, the pace was changed so drastically and the most shocking thing about it was that IT WORKED. I really do love this game.

Akira Toriyama, the author and artist of Dragon Ball, did the character and monster design for this game. The character Toripo in the game is based off of his own "author avatar", the Toribot. Akira Toriyama has also done the character and monster design for the entire Dragon Quest series.

Freezarama every boss used this theme, EVERY boss, and there's about 30 of them, first time was rather epic, but then a giant undead tree, a LITERAL giant shit snake, which there's like 5 different boss variants, it needed boss theme variety from silly to the extreme, not just this, great song, but damn does it wear on you fast

You don't want to be grinding on little enemies that don't give you a challenge for ages and ages. Bosses are what make the game challenging and fun. That's why they put so many bosses in there. The bosses are what make the game define itself. Without so many bosses. The game would be boring. You can't have a game like that without bosses.
@CloudGecko if more than one or two of them provided any actual challenge beyond whether or not you're supposed to attack this one enemy or wait a few turns on the next cut scene then I'd be inclined to agree.
@Reinreith Exactly, when you got to that first boss fight you were like "OH SHIT, its going down son." but then you got to disc 3 and you're just tired of it. One of the most excellent boss themes I have ever heard, but got overused. Honestly should have been saved for the final boss because of how awesome it was. Just imagine your like dozens of hours into the game and this is playing during a super intense difficult boss fight that requires you choose each move carefully and clench your butthole every time it was the boss' turn.

Heck even the secret boss has the same boss music as the others. Its amazing at first when you listen to it, but it tires out after the next 4 to 5 bosses that you face in the game.

I disagree, while beautifully animated, the Ghibli movies are mostly simple children's tale that try to amaze you with it's art direction instead of the story it's trying to tell. The one exception is Princess Mononoke which pulls no punches and is probably Miyazaki's best work. While decreasing in number because of the current "moe" cute trend, there's still a lot of anime out there that uses other forms of appeal than the ones you've listed above that can arguably deliver a different yet satisfying/entertaining experience compared with other styles of animation.
@DocThor Perhaps that's the origin of the term 'anime,' but like with most words, it slowly evolved to mean something more specific by its users (i.e. 'porc' for the food, 'pig' for the animal). It's a mix of the art style, storytelling style, the musical style, and mostly, the experience of the viewer is unique compared to other styles of animation; there is an unexplainable difference between anime and Disney's Atlantis, for example. It's like 'super hero cartoons.' You can say that Dragon Ball is about super heroes as well, but you wouldn't call it a 'super hero cartoon.' It does not fit the description, even though, fundamentally, they're all stories about super-powered humans/humanoids. You wouldn't call a Batman cartoon an 'anime' either, even if it was animated by the Japanese in Japan. So clearly, there is definition for 'anime' that is beyond the 'Japanese animation,' but it's more instinctive than rational, in my opinion.
See you're not really describing anime, so much as you are describing what Western anime fan art looks like. That's not to say there aren't tons anime that fit your description, there are, but it's pretty disingenuous to say it's representative of all anime. It's like saying that all American-made movies are idiotic, brainless pieces of military endorsing because of Michael Bay movies, there's a ton of really interesting, really smart stuff if you're willing to take the time out to look for it. I'd recommend you check out some stuff by a guy named Mamoru Hosoda, if you like Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli you'd probably like him a whole lot.

There's always shit in every media, including anime. There are also really good shows, like Usagi Drop, Level E, Monster, Hajime No Ippo, Mushi-Shi, Great Teacher Onizuka. You had to go old school, see a game, rent it and try it for yourself, if you like it buy it. Reviewer is the middle man, and in this day in age of biased reviews, they are completely unreliable.

For those of you that haven't played this game, and for those that have let me tell ya a bit about this music and remind you why you hate it. There's a section of the game where you're on teh big bad guy's ship and you're trying to find him and try to blow up his ship or something. A boss appears when you go to turn off whatever it is and you fight it. Then the game tells you there's 9 more. And the next room has the next boss. And so does the one after that. This song. Every time.

I have no illusions. The vocals in this are fucking atrocious, but I've played enough Blue Dragon that it has grown on me and I can tune out the fact that this guy cannot fucking sing. One of the worst boss themes I've heard, simply because they got some talentless fuck to sing it. Otherwise, the instruments are solid and awesome.
This has gone into history as one of the worst VGM's out there (At least it's the one I've heard used to give an example of them). I personally think it's not so bad. Not great, but not horrible.

I was surprised to learn that there were people who loved the game that hated this theme. I thought the game was alright (The length and depth made up for almost every flaw except the stupid Devi/fat-cat kid. Ugh.) but I LOVED this song. I rocked the hell out on that first boss battle.
When I first played this game I was so confused by this boss music, I thought it was really different to be put into a JRPG but after a few times of hearing it I was convinced that it belonged. I guess I'm just not used to JRPG's having heavy guitar songs like this one but I got used to it like I said, and I have to admit that I like it.

it doesnt matter. if you have ever listened to something by Rhapsody of fire, an italian speed metal band, some of the words he has trouble saying, but its still great music.

Tne lyrics are what bring the song together. everyone hates them, but they really make the song better, and if you listen to them it makes it a really great song for an epic conflict.

My god the lyrics for this are just...awful. The entire piece just seems horrendously out of place for the setting. If it's just playing through boss monsters I'm alright, but if I get put up against a major villain and get subjected to this...I will be irked.

actually if you play this one in itunes and have it loop you honestly don't notice it's only 3:53. at one point i listened to it for a good three hours 'til i realized it was looping.
There should be an option to turn off the vocals, then it would be tolerable.

This song drove people nuts at first. We were like, "What the hell this can't be right" ...And it was right. And the more we listened, the better it got. A few days ago me and my friends were driving along, blaring this on our speakers and singing along at the top of our lungs. It was stupid and great.
