I don't like the 3D Metroids (Prime), because I suck at Shooter games :P However, I loved Super Metroid and Other-M! :D

I really hope they'll do a 2D Metroid for the WiiU or 3DS - and not just a remake of Super Metroid or Metroid Fusion. I somehow love 2D-Metroids, although the Prime series was also godlike - but somehow different...

Out of all video games soundtracks, I can't think of any more atmospheric than the soundtracks of Ocarina of Time and Super Metroid. Speaking of Zelda, Ocarina of Time, The Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess all reminded me of Super Metroid and Metroid Prime far more frequently than Other M did. ???

Yeah, this particular track feels so darn ominous.
Either this, or place some 2D sequences in the next Metroid game like what Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, Super Mario Galaxy, and God of War III did for their series. What if Other M instead started with a cutscene where the "Baby" sucked all but one measly energy point from Samus, and then the opening level would be a rendition of Super Metroid's ending sequence, 2D gameplay and all?
Metroid tracks have an uncanny ability to convey isloation and mystery at once.

@soxeaglesyuoke Well you're right, Metroid Prime 3 isn't like the others, you have always the Aurora Unit that guides you, and you interact with Federation Marines. But the game is awesome anyway, you MUST have it !

@Shkerks Yeah, I mean like I said, Metroid Prime felt like High Space Adventure. I can see Samus dabling in some of that, it's not like every planet would have to be scary and lonely. But I just liked Super Metroids feel of desolation and hopeless almost. Samus was a like a Mom, taking care of a baby metroid like her own daughter. Reminded me of Ripley in Aliens and that's how I always imagined Samus. A woman who risked her neck when everyone else was afraid to. Beats Space "Hunks" any day

MMMmmm...When Metroid games were scary and dark. Sorry, I really felt the Prime series lacked the lost and lonely feeling of despair in a frightening alien planet. And Other M, that was junk.

Maridia... The depths of watery secrets, where we can find such resources as the Plasma Beam and the SpringBall, And the Space Jump too... But no matter what we find, there are yet more things we've missed, and we may never find. Super Metroid was probably the greatest Metroid game of all, in many opinions... Heck, out of all the games, it's got the most mods. I only hope that the future can bring more Metroid games, 3D or 2D, that live up to the standards,

It's just the level of this argument doesn't seem to be about the mechanical things that MAKE the game great, while at the same time the genres are super friggin' different. I mean, you say you played Super Metroid and didn't like it, the only logical recourse from that is to ask what 2D games you DO like. If none of the genres are anything like Super Metroid then, there you go. You don't like that kind of game. So what? Hooray for useful discourse :-/

@mariofreak955 I don't know why but I hate Metroid Prime, I don't like the 3D for it. I vastly prefer Metroid series in 2D. You played Metroid on the NES it's alright you disliked it because there was no map in it, play Super Metroid and then say to me you dislike 2D Metroid. Super Metroid truly was the greatest.

This music has one of those weird relaxing and scary feels about. Future metroid games should have a deep sea world with this music.

its funny by the time you reach this point you would think you are doing good you know, you've past the halfway mark but then being here in this place of darkness and isolation puts you back in the realization that your fighting an army by yourself in an unknown world. You know its too late to turn back but the feeling of doubt seems to be attacking from all directions. i dont know about samus but this is how i would feel if i were her in this place.

This game made me feel more in the game than most modern 3D 1st person games, and I think atmospheric music like this was one of the biggest reasons. I feel like finding an emulator now.

I know exactly what you mean! I hated this place when I was a kid and always tried to get what I went there to do as quickly as possible. However, the intro theme is probably more scarier than this. I listened to it recently and I still get goosebumps whenever I hear it.

man i remember i was creeped out when i first got to Maridia, this music and the ghosts didnt help lol.
A whole underground world submerged entirely in water, undisturbed since the time of the Chozo. The one part of Super Metroid where you feel almost like you're doing more damage than the Space Pirates, disturbing the delicate balance that has formed here, freezing Chozo history in time. I imagine Samus would feel very sad here, plundering what remains of where she once called Home in order to stop the Pirates.I feel it would be a hard decision for her to make, but a necessary one.
Such good VGM. It was a tough part of the game, but you felt you were close to realising your goal, you just had to figure out the mysteries of this water maze. The music fits so perfectly.

You're thinking of "wet dreams" then :P When I think back to Maridia, I remember the tunnels full of water, and those spiky things coming out of the ground.
both songs from maridia fit the atmosphere perfectly. so crystalline yet slightly somber. so mutedly dark.
This is simply claustrophobia for one's ears- the atmosphere in Super Metroid was amazing!
