By the way, the man who composed this soundtrack is Jeremy Soule, otherwise known today as the composer for the first three Harry Potter games and recent Elder Scrolls games.

+ovidio perez I remember my brother buying this game and me saying "what the hell is this crap?!" - because I was so in love with Secret of Mana... then I played 5 minutes of this and realized it was JUST like Mana haha! This game is a VERY underrated little gem.
Probably the most heavily criticized SNES Squaresoft game. The funny thing? It's ten times better than most of the stuff SquareEnix is putting out today. Squaresoft > SquareEnix.

Hard to believe this soundtrack was Jeremy Soule's first major work. He wasn't even quite 20 when the game came out. And he already was displaying the talent of people who had been composing music for various formats for very long periods of time.

It WAS however modded in to the emulated version. I've seen it somewhere and played it, so it did happen. The original game never supported 2 player though.
Sadly you remember wrong... You could switch between the dog and the character by pressing the select button but no 2 player involved there...
I swear the second controller did actually control the dog directly, if you pressed Select. Am I remembering wrong?
The best game for the snes console, with the best music, This is what i personally call "a masterpiece". Ah, old games... :) i've played this my first time when i was 7 years old, this game is so fuckin' awesome
@maverickmic Thats becose the dog is the warrior and he have no magic, just brawn. The humain guy is more like the mage, he can do alchemy but hes not the best fighter. The game is balanced.
@Cordiiiii That's a cute story Cordiiiii :). I did something similar with my little sister. Back in 1994 (I was 13 she was 3) I was playing Final Fantasy VI and I was grinding my characters to high levels, and I let her play for awhile. I told her how to move the character around the world map and when a battle would happen I told her to press the one button (attack) over and over. I had no chance of dying and she helped me gain some experience, and she got to play a little bit.
I'm SO happy that you actually included a song from SoE in this playlist :)) I remember when I was about 4 years old I always wanted to play that game along with my older brother... I kept complaining and complaining and finally my brother gave me the 2nd gamepad and told me I could play the dog... Now we all know there is no 2 player mode in that game but I didn't know and I didn't really notice... So I was happy and kept my mouth shut "playing" the dog... :DD And my brother had some peace :D

This games system was a bit unbalanced the dogs stats were better than the boy in all but one cat. Mdef and even that was marginal! Think it shows that we should be careful dogs don't take over the world!

For some reason mini boss battle themes are very often better than major boss themes like in this case

Well, thanks to you, I finally looked up this game and tried it... and it's awesome~ This theme is all well and good to listen to, but whenever it starts playing ingame, I get freaked out. XD

This is no doubt my favorite SNES game of all time. My favorite section of this game was the Dark Forest Maze, I had SUCCCCCH good times there, this game was SOOOOO epic, I wish Square Enix did a remake of it, but very unlikely, at least the same game mechanics would be nice!
This is such a great song. It really makes you feel like you're in danger. And you are, basically every boss in the game is pretty hard if you didn't figure out that you could alchemy-spam.

I think they're both great, but far superior? Secret of Mana had charge attacks, an awesome magic system, and three player co-op through nearly the entire game.

This is a vastly underrated game. It has a very moody tone and soundtrack that set it apart from most other games of its time. I'd say I enjoy it every bit as much as Secret of Mana.

happens sometimes dude i saw a movie when I was a little kid and thought I would never see the movie again because it was a chinese dubbed japanese movie. Then one day, 14 years after I saw the movie, I begin to think back about it, and surprisingly I found in stores. It was "Castle In the Sky".
Very nice. This title usually gets slammed pretty hard, but it's one of my fav. SNES RPGs easily. Great soundtrack, too, with tons of atmosphere.

Couldn't quite live up to Secret of Mana, but it's still an interesting play-through. Robo-Dog is the best, I'd play as him whenever I could.

And it still does. To this day, it's one of my favorite games of all-time, right next to Starfox.

Well, this actually isn't the boss music--this is the mini-boss music. If you want to hear the actual boss music, do a search for it on YouTube (or do a search for one of the many bosses in the game...say, for example, Verminator, or Salabog).
Technically this is the mini-boss theme. =P

It's a great and unique game. I recommend giving it a try to anyone who hasn't played it. I have very fond memories of this game and I'll probably get to it again, as I did with Secret of Mana a couple months ago.
