My favorite RPG of all time. Underrated as shit, perfect challenge, best soundtrack, near unlimited replayability, OHMAGERRRD!!! But yeah, ugly-ass characters and incredibly vague progression. THAT part hadn't changed from the snes era.

This so much. I am making my way through it on the SFC right now and will play it on both Wonderswan and PS2 later. Such a great gem, although a bit unpolished. But it's so rewarding that you don't even care about it being unpolished!

@VGKing @zagi1able I know, it used to be like that for me too. Like, I would just constantly battle monsters and try to figure out a way to make money so I could buy new weapons & armor and basically treat it like a Final Fantasy game. I know, I didn't really care for it or understand it at first either, but then one day recently I got bored and decided to play it again, and with the amazing guidance of FareltheGecko (does RS: MS walkthroughs/videos on Youtube) I grew to really like it. It IS really hard to understand at first. Certain quests can only be triggered at certain points in the game, it depends on how much progress you've made. Personally, I'd suggest starting out with Albert because his story actually starts you off with quests that eventually lead into other ones being activated. You pretty much just have to keep going town to town/city to city and constantly talk to people to trigger a certain quest, or you can look at this walkthrough for the details http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps2/924486-romancing-saga/faqs/43160 that's basically what I did

Yeah you almost need a strat guide for the game, its just so open that you never figure out where to go sometimes.
This game is very difficult without a guide.

SaGa games are still being made in Japan. SaGa sadly isn't that popular in the US because they are VEEEEERY hard and don't hold your hand like Final Fantasy/Most RPG's.

They recently released a game on Vita called SaGa Scarlet Grace, but yeah, Japan-only.
I love this game. I wish more people actually tried this game out so Square could have continued the series.

you start out really weak and enemies get twice as strong as you as you level up
