This a Creepy Ass Unsettling Water Theme for A Video Game which usually have very peaceful relaxing themes but it's because of this change in tone and sound that it's the most memorable one of them all.
I didn't play this game when I was a kid, so I have to pose this question: Were any of you horrified by this music when you were a kid playing this, or did the subtext just go over your head? Because this is legitimately scary and it matches the dark lighting of the levels perfectly. It sounds like you're one breath away from drowning.
The only scary dream I had as a kid about DKC was the game over screen appearing in me and my older cousin's room in the dark. Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong were on the top bunk crying and shaking. It was one of those dreams that were scary but still made you want to cry inside.
to be honest i was always amazed and enlightened by DKC musics i use to play the whole game with my mouth opened so no terror just amazed
Great question. All my dkc horror nightmares was in 2. Specifically gloomy gulch. By the time I came to a complete water level in this game I used to the dkc shenanigans.
Yup, this theme scared me as a kid. But the worst part for me was in DKC2 when you need to run away from the giant bee as Rambi. I had a lot of nightmares about that.
The variety between the water level tracks in the DKC games is just perfect. In DKC1, there's Aquatic Ambiance, which is the really peaceful, relaxing one. In DKC2, there's Lockjaw's Saga, the exciting, action-like one. And then in this game, DKC3, there's this, Water World, the creepy, dark one. I'm actually having a hard time choosing which is my favorite because of the variety. I love the soundtracks of all the DKC games. And I mean all of them. Even DKC3 SNES and GBA, Returns, and especially Tropical Freeze. David Wise and Eveline Novakovic have so much talent.

Am I the only weirdo who wasn't scared of this when little, I was like "I just wanna play DK3!!" and did this level like any other, it's no scary for me, but now that I pay more attention to the music... am I that weird?

I have a friend who loves video games. When ever we talk, I tell him to play these classic games and his response is always "Why would I play old games where a pixel is the character when I can play new games" I tell him that this music is why. HE still refuses. Then I say some stuff inappropriate for this website

@Mephistobr It depends. DKC1 had 3 composers DKC2 had only one and DKC3 had 2. Being that David Wise is the main composer behind DKC soundtracks (specially DKC2), Eveline Novakovik composed some of DKC1 and 3 soundtracks, such as the amazing Nothern Hemispheres (snow level) from DKC1
It's amazing how you could beat this game so easily as a kid, but now it seems so hard.
And I thought it's worst DKC underwater song. I listened to GBA version: no it isn't so bad. P.s. Worst - only compared to underwater themes from DKC 1,2.
@Mephistobr , Eveline Fischer? I'm fairly sure she was in charge of most of the SNES soundtrack for this game. But David Wise was the one who did the GBA soundtrack. :D

I just got the weirdest flashback. I literally saw myself in my 7 yr old self tryin my best to swim away from a snappin fish and finding KONG pieces and DK barrels. I always used to rush thru these levels, cause the music blended in so well with the environment, and i always used to get scared and start cryin an shit. Nearly 10 years have passed. Im not scared anymore, but i still shed a tear.....good times

Who here remembers that damn fish that you HAD to feed to keep it from eating you, and depending on how long you take to feed it, and what you fed it would determine how fast or how slow his color would turn from blue to red. that and the lighting level were a couple of thorns in my side in this game.

A sea monster attack would have a bit more of an adrenaline feel to it. I would go for more of a "lost on a shipwreck in ocean depths" feel.

God, I hated that level where the fish follows you and you're required to feed it as you venture through the level or he attacks you. This music always reminded me of funeral music and didn't help me feel better, lmao. I actually played that level yesterday. 0: Original cartridge ftw.
the level when everything is dark, and you have to stab the fat fishes (as enguarde the swordfish) to make some light- that is the creepiest and most depressing in dkc3 imo
You're probably thinking of the DS' 3D capabilities. The DS shoudl be able to use the SNES sprites and artwork and make it look just the same as it would on the SNES. In my opinion, I'd love to see a DKC compilation on the DS, though I do agree the Wii might be a better choice.

hell no the DS would suck!!! for these games and DS dont have good graphics at all in my opinion so it would be better all 3 in one on WII, or future wii

I am sorry to say this but he did not compose this song. But you are right, he is a composer legend. His works on Donkey Kong Country 1 & 2 are all-time greats in video games.
The DKC games were easily some of the most beautiful games of the SNES era in graphics, gameplay, and music. It's no surprise to see a song like this here :3

Actually most of the DKC3 songs (including this one) were done by someone else (forgot her name...). But yes, David Wise is awesome!
David Wise - One of my greatest role models. I love all the music from the Donkey Kong Country series and I listen to this song almost every day. He's SO F**KING TALENTED!
