I just beat this game and just like the first Ori, it was an overall great experience. The combat itself was improved and controlling Ori still feels like a dream... for the most part. When you run around and everything flows, there aren't many games that can reach this level of control, but there were some sections requiring the usage of traversal skills (mainly in mid-air) that didn't make me feel like Ori was doing what I wanted it to do. As for the combat, I felt way more involved than the first game but the low enemy variety was a disappointment. This is a beautiful game, but it unfortunately kept the original's biggest flaw that I had mentioned back then: the difficulty in terms of platforming and combat is quickly rendered superficial by being able to brute force everything. The sense of accomplishment after traversing a room full of (low-damaging) spikes despite failing the intended platforming always felt like I had cheated the game, and it's the same thing with the bosses I would end up tanking. Really, the best fight in the whole game is the first boss against the giant beetle because you have a low amount of health and skills at your disposal, which makes you learn its pattern. This seems mostly negative, but I'd say it's more about being frustrated that Moon Studios did not learn much from the first game. I loved the game, probably more than the first, but it could have been even better with a few simple changes. They achieved something crazy though: they managed to make a water level my favorite in a game; the Luma Pools were awesome.

Aside from it being a damn good game, I disagree with pretty much everything here. I never felt like Ori was doing something I didn't want, the true beauty of the game's movements is accidentally finding a way through that wasn't what they intended, and I had no issues with any of the bosses.
Did you play on hard mode? I found the bosses pretty challenging on hard mode, and the sand worm escape.... I'd rather not talk about it..

Probably the best general world theme, with Shadows of Mouldwood being a very close second. This is just so peaceful and I can't help but smile like an idiot whenever I hear it. Luma Pools being such a pretty area doesn't help with that at all

The Ori games are just sitting in my library. I really need to get around to playing them, they look like so much fun!

This kind of soundtracks always draw my attention, and Ori's are really out there. I know I need to play the first game soon, but I need to choose between that and Hollow Knight, and that is not an easy decision.
Both are great games, but I prefer Hollow Knight, mainly because of the combat. It also has an unique, alluring atmosphere, at least for me. Ori is like a dreamy landscape and HK is like a darker, lonely place with some forgotten beauties to find. You'll have a great time no matter what you choose.
@Craig Adams No sorry, the combat in HK is unquestionably superior. HK has about 20 times the enemy variety of Ori in both boss fights and regular type enemies. Combat is way more responsive/tight control. I give credit that Will of the Wisps combat is huge improvement over original Ori though.
Between Blind Forest and Hollow Knight, I'd definitely go for Hollow Knight. Both are outstanding games, but HK just has a ton more combat and much more interesting combat. You should play both though

I bought the first game during one of the Steam sales since I wanted to experience it for myself. I should get on that soon....
Yeah. I got it about a year ago and the first thought I had, other than just being in awe of what I played, was "why the hell didn't I get this sooner".
This was an amazing game and like the first one it really did a great job both visually and audibly of creating such great ambiance that pulled you in and helped emotionally invest you in it all.
man, what? personally thought this song was annoying on my first playthrough, partially because i was having a very frustrating experience with this area (really bad performance). But I can respect it it’s a well made song
Were you playing on Xbox One? I heard the performance on it is awful, but thankfully on my PC it was all smooth.
SupraDarky no, pc. i know why it had bad performance (laptop) but it seemed particularly bad compared to all other areas. Anyways good game
