Traditional turn based combat, epic story, massive world, and music by Nobuo Uematsu? Not to mention it was directed by Sakaguchi! Yup, it's a Final Fantasy game in every way but the title, and one of the best JRPGs ever.
If you're talking about the classic J-RPG genre then yes, this would be considered the final classic J-RPG. Kinda sad when you think about. I'm just glad to have played such an amazing game and all future ones to come!

im still having dreams of playing the game, cause i had xbox360 only for 2 weeks before it had the deadly 3 lights so i had no chance to play it, and didnt bother buying new one, instead bought ps3 which still works btw.. XD and yeah, poor sakaguchi, had 2 exclusives and low budget which didnt gave him room to create freely (this and last story).. :(
Yea I remember back then Xbox had exclusive JRPGs. Eternal Sonata, star ocean, blue dragon, tales of vesperia, and the last remnant to name a few. Unfortunately for Microsoft, xbox lost exclusivity for most of this games, and the time of Microsoft JRPGS is no more.

@HihockplaysMC This game bored me to death after 8 hours of gameplay. Maybe I'm just getting too old and JRPGs aren't for me anymore, oh well, gotta move on.

@HihockplaysMC I didn't, thats the thing. I hated both the slow traditional battle system they opted to use, and I hated the Thousand Years of Dreams melodrama. It was just so uninteresting to me. To each his own?

I know hundreds of People wanted a sequel but in my mind a Sequel would ruin the masterpiece this game was. It had emotion great character development and above all else an amazing text based story for each time you rested at an inn or remembered something significant.

Everything about this game rang "Ah...the good ol' days!" I loved it so much that I actually refused to beat it because I hate it when good things come to an end. It's been years now since I've last played it. Amazing graphics. Epic cinematic scenes. Beautiful music. Action packed and dramatic story. Sad, heart tugging stories of Kaim's past. I'm definitely going to play it again and beat it this time.
Isn't he ^^ I really am so glad Nobou left Square Enix to start his own music company, to create music for all sorts of games. Yes thankfully he does still create music for Square Enix, though not so much lately it seems, but Nobou's music in Lost Odyssey is some of the best music I've ever had the pleasure of hearing, not just exclusive to gaming
I couldn't agree more. I also didn't realize until I played this how much I missed out on the classic battle system, I never got to play a game with a battle style like this before. Even so this was completely different. The stunning graphics during each battle, yet keeping it classic, but having new and improved features. But the story and characters is what makes this among my favorite games, the gameplay really was a huge bonus I wasn't expecting

No matter how many times I replay this game... In every scene this song shows up in... a bawl like a baby. I'm the kind of person that doesn't give a crap when a dog dies in a movie or something, too. I freakin' love this game.

Lost Odyssey is far from a masterpiece of the RPG genre, and even the soundtrack isn't terribly memorable (by Uematsu's standards anyway)... and yet, I can't help loving it. It's obvious that a lot of love went into making this game. It's one of only two games (the other being Crisis Core) to bring me to tears, and the ONLY game to make me cry more than once.

Best JRPG of this generation. The creator of FF left to start his own studio, creating this, and it shows; in both the declining quality of FF, and the great quality of this game.

Not afraid to admit that I teared up in half the Dreams where this played. Such a ****ing powerful song.
Load times are actually great if you have the discs installed. Not even really noticeable. Without it though, it is pretty long sometimes.

"Don't Forget Me Now, You Hear?" is definitely a tear-jerker. Mostly because of this music. Haha, but I didn't cry... I swear...

To people complaining about the load times, install the game to your HDD. It's a big file and if you only have a 20GB drive you'll probably only manage one disk at a time but it makes a massive difference.
Some of the music that accompanied the short stories made me cry lol

Does it help to say I love lost odyssey? IT was still very emotional for me. But what makes that so bad that I dont like to read. It strains my neck to read the box tv I got. I read a couple of dreams and I admit they were good. The dreams are not really for me though. I loved the music in the whole game! Just wanted to say that.

Yeah, I bought this when it first came out, it's gorgeous, and the music is great. I guess there aren't many of us who miss the classic battle system, I was so happy when I played it and it wasn't a crazy-dumb "revolutionary" battle system. Also, it let you have 5 party members, which was awesome, like old times.

I think the Lost Odyssey OST is very underrated. There´s true beauty in it, espacially in the songs that play in Kaim´s memories.

the load times don't seem much worse (if at all) than most other RPGs on CD/DVD to me, and the game makes FFX look slow & grindy in comparison IMO (although you'd prolly disagree with that :p). It's a very solid game and the reviews really didn't do it justice.

Nobuo Uematsu definitely hasn't lost it. I've just started playing this game and this music directly hit me. Invoking emotion like this in a song takes a lot of talent, my eyes sometimes get misty when I hear it in the game (especially in the dreams) because it's often during a beautifully sad scene.
