For those not aware, I've been running tournaments through polls in my Community section to determine the best RPGs of various consoles throughout the year. This game just won as the best original handheld RPG after weeks of voting. Mother 3 is my personal favorite, but I cannot deny this franchise's influence (I was the biggest Pokémon fan back in Gen I) and this is pretty much the perfect remake. Feel free to join for the upcoming tournaments.

Pokemon silver was my very first pokemon game im 31 years old now i believe i was 9 or 10 when i got it to this day still my fav set of games cause 16 badges bbaaaabbyyy

@Sandro Vadacca everyone has different circumstances. i'm 20, first pokemon game i played was fire red, but the first i owned was diamond bc my parents did not want to buy me a console until that time

@OVERKNIGHT Yes, I understand. I just thought that everyone in my generation started with red and blue, because it was such an extreme hype back then. I can say with confidence that anyone who was not old enough when red and blue came out, can't understand how big the hype actually was. Pokémon was everywhere at any time. I never saw anything like it afterwards. That's why I was surprised, but of course there can be many reasons why it would be different for individual persons.

I don’t get the worship Gen 2 gets. Yeah, they’re definitely better than Gen 1, and they did introduce a lot of important mechanics (that Game Freak has or will eventually cut), and the remakes were absolutely amazing games. Having two regions was nice, but the level scaling was horribly mishandled, the games had one of the least memorable Pokédexes, and the games barely had any semblance of a plot. I dare say it’s the second or third worst Gen once you subtract nostalgia.

The level scaling issue is fair. The Johto Pokemon were conceived as an expansion to the Kanto Pokedex, not a standalone set on their own, as the concept of generations didn't exist back then (GSC is the "full" experience). No plot is not a bad thing in a Pokemon game. New games force the plot way too hard by constantly interrupting you.

It’s weird to think I’m watching number 2352. It might not seem like an important number but… the song which drew me into this channel was 1176. The list seemed huge at the time, but it’s now double that. Up to 2012, I only listened to soundtracks of games I knew already - Mario and Sonic especially, and Super Smash Bros Brawl. I was subscribed to SD that year because I found some Mario tracks I knew on there, which is arguably missing the point of the channel. I can't remember why I clicked on it, possibly because I found a lot of time on my hands that summer, but Parabolic Hyperflies blew my mind. I hadn't realised I could appreciate game music without knowing the game behind it. But in fact, the unfamiliar games would be the ones I would most appreciate. 1176-1199 became the first snippet of SD which I listened to on repeat, followed by the rest of playlist 6 just as I went to university. The duration of the playlist is only a few hours, but the density of good songs is so high (as with all these playlists) that I could savour it over months. When I left my room, the music would often stick in my head for the day, or multiple days. I keep a note of the songs which stick the most - these aren’t really game songs to me, but a kind of soundtrack to my life. I would start a new playlist every few months (in a non-methodical order), which means I associate different lists with different points in time. And songs on this list have introduced me to full soundtracks I love like Shatter, Neotokyo, Silent Hill, Wangan Midnight, Umineko, Unreal Tournament to name a few. Thanks for keeping it going all this time!

This tune is so underrated. You should check out mewmores mix btw. Its freaking mad! But for real though the original was already outstanding and with hg/ss they stepped up the game big time. Just such a beautiful tune to listen to.

IMO D/P/Pl. is the best Pokémon game and HG/SS is the best Pokémon remake to date. Although this game is so close for me, many memories as well. Such a fantastic game and it just about won its spot in the polls.

FF & Pokémon will NEVER be good again I admit I feel you, but i’ve gotten use to the stuff after Gen V. Although when Gen V came out a lot of people criticized it because the Pokémon looked weird but hey, look how weird they’ve become compared to Gen I-IV.
