I remember as a kid being impressed by Mario's sleeping animation during the ending. I know that Nintendo went with the twist that Mario was dreaming all along to separate this game's world based on Doki Doki Panic from the Mario canon world, but I feel like they should just embrace it now. Did you realize Shy Guys have never made any other appearance in the mainline series where you directly control Mario? It seems crazy. I wonder if Nintendo will ever bring the SMB2 style to Mario Maker because of that.
Spoiler! J/k, but you saying that reminded me of the minigame Shy Guy Says in Mario Party, it was one of my favorite minigames. I doubt a SMB2 style will ever appear in Mario Maker though.
Shy Guys are in Mario 64 and a lot of Mario RPGs :)

@NetConsole yeah technically Fly Guys are in Super Mario 64 but not Shy Guys. I personally count Fly Guys though.

@lightsideluc Parakoopas are Koopas and Fly Guys are Shy Guys :D They only have a fucking propeller on their heads. If Peach wears a red Dress she's not Red-Peach and a different person. :D
This is sort of dumb but some years ago i found this game in one of my old drawers with the manual. The story, according to the manual, is that mario went into long dream... and long story short, he has to save "subcon" which i guess is his subconciousness?
@SupraDarky LIES!!! Super Mario RPG's and Mario 64 had Shy guys and tons of main Mario games had them too. If you are trying to show off knowledge about the franchise at least do it right ffs.

Mario RPGs are not part of the mainline series. True there were Fly Guys in Mario 64, but I really had in mind just the normal Shy Guys. In the end though, even including Fly Guys, the point is that they are so popular that it's surprising to see how little representation they actually do get (in the mainline series).
@Bartosz Skorupa 1) Mario RPG is not a mainline Mario game in the same way that Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi are not mainline games. 2) The shy guys in Mario 64 are not actually shy guys but snifits, a completely different enemy. 3) Please be more considerate when trying to debunk someone's harmless fun facts. I might be wrong about this, but weren't all the enemies in Super Mario Bros 2 designed the exact same and had the same names in Doki Doki Panic? Meaning that Shy Guys aren't technically "Mario" characters, since as we all know Doki Doki came out first. Obviously nowadays Birdo and Shy Guys and the rest are recognized as Mario characters, but they originally weren't. Like I said idk maybe I'm completely wrong.
It is in Mario Maker 2... ...well, as a power up, but hey! Better than nothing.

I think this is the ending I saw the most in my life. Fighting Wart and getting through the castle was fun, and I really loved how you could see all the enemies walk by. (Now that I think about it, I cleared DKC1 a lot too :D )
